Here is what Reuters is reporting.

Obviously, Qatar and SJR have wanted exclusivity from the start. They would have exchanged merger agreement drafts with the Glazers, ironed out potential bid details, etc.

The news today is that the Glazers are prepared to sign a binding legal document with Qatar that will prevent the Glazers from engaging in any negotiations with SJR for a specified period of time. Once this document is signed, the intention will be for the Glazers and Qatar to get to a signed deal. This binding legal document is being negotiated now.

This is huge for the Qatar bid, and represents a major development in negotiations.

100% agree. This is my take, too.

Reuters reporting this means the parties are entering the final stages of negotiations, I have no doubt about it. It’s big news and it’s unlikely SJR can outbid Qatar.

Sad news in my opinion but definitely big one when it comes to the ownership of the club.

To clarify, the 1% is that this isn't a state backed bid and we aren't becoming a state owned club. In which case it'd be a "normal owner".

So if you wanna live on that 1% with your head in the sand, go for it, but we all ~know what's going on here and so of course, that affects our feelings.

I took the 1% as in "we might be cheating this whole time".

I've long since stopped caring about who actually "owns" the club as that ship sailed a while ago. But I sure won't be guilt tripped into thinking that we are suddenly going to be as dirty as City when we have no need to be and there isn't any evidence. It's a football club, I just want it to be run properly the way it deserves to be run. That's all.

I didn’t know that - thanks

I don't think it did. Wiki has it as April 2020 to October 2021, but there was all the conflicts with the BeIN ownership and it being an actual arm of the Saudi state as the PIF as opposed to Jassim who is, nominally at least, a private individual. I don't think this is comparable. Saudi's takeover also came not too long after the khalshoggi stuff, whereas Qatar seems on good terms with the UK government and has just hosted a world cup. Nothing is guaranteed, but I don't see this being the same protracted process

He just keeps editing bits here and there. Oddly enough, he hasn't changed the bit about the price going back down as low as it did, because it would seem to deflate his headline.

That is peculiar. Did he actually jump the gun on a bad source?

Mate of mine works at the club and has been told takeover is being completed by Qatar and will be leaked tonight, announced tomorrow.

I want to believe you, but then I look at your tagline and I'm conflicted

Nice tagline

We all want that. Unfortunately we'll now be state owned so that won't be an option (unless people think PSG/City/Newcastle now are run properly).

I wouldn't think so given that he represents Reuters, but until there are multiple credible sources reporting the same thing, there will continue to be a bit of lingering doubt.

I remember you during the Frenkie transfer business  you said the something similar then.

If the sale price is not 6 to 6.5 billion as previously rumoured the shares are going to be priced accordingly.

Berbaclass must be gutted to be thread banned on this the most muppety day of the whole saga

Who’s a guy got to jerk off around here to put Ben Jacobs on the banned journalists list?

So the big news today is that Jassim and INEOS are in negotiations to buy the club. No change there then. Usual over the top giddiness based on a nothing piece of news.

Correct, in part. The only significant news today is that Reuters are reporting that Qatar are now ahead (the first such report we've had), having been behind since 'round 3' of the process (28 April). Still time for Ineos to trump them, but the pendulum seems to have shifted away from Ratcliffe for the first time in a long time. We don't appear much closer to a deal though and Ineos will presumably at least be given the weekend to make an improved offer.

Now, this is the sort of ITK stuff that we've been waiting for!

Except it IS an option. Those clubs you mentioned are in completely different scenarios to what we are. None had previous revenue streams or anything close to it to the point where they would grow organically, thus the dirty money pumping (although to Newcastles credit they've hardly gone crazy). We have 0 need for the same type of artificial money, and quite frankly can't really even use it (transfer wise at least) with the newest FFP rules. If anything the "huge warchest" will mainly be used to get our infrastructure up to standards with other top clubs while our existing revenue streams pay for transfers in the same way, just without the saddled debt and leeching from the Glazers. f

I just don't see the similarities between us and any other middle eastern takeover so far in terms of the level of the clubs. Besides "oil state buys football club", there are a huge number of underlying differences.

Just had a quick chat with @moses and he assures me that Ben Jacobs is going on the banned journo list.

Ben Jacobs and a number of other English media twats are starting to seem very much like they’re in the pocket of Ratcliffe and have absolutely no knowledge or connection at all to 92 Foundation…

Something they might want to address in the near future.

Reuters should be very good. But find it strange with the editing and that it’s mostly fluff added. That said, I think it’s going to be Qatar.

i’ve heard from a friend close to the process that there’s barely anything between both offers. it’s come down to a pissing contest, with avram chosen as the judge.

edit: *kissing
 ffs
