Club Sale | It’s done!

My answer to this would still be yes
Yeah. I don't really give a feck of what rival fans saying about our past, present, and future success.
ANd the media can shove it up their a*ses too, while at it.

Now I do care what us as United fans think about all this.

Could be weeks till this is all sorted even if there is exclusivity though, right?

It could be months. As an example during the sale of the Timberwolves exclusive negotiations started in early April and ended in late July.

The stock began 23.80 and is currently at 24.70. So for all the takeover talk, the share price hasn't even moved a single dollar since opening.

It will happen. It’s inevitable. It might not be right away, but it will. We will one day be involved in a transfer, or a re-development, or a something which requires us to spend more than we’d budgeted for, or should be able to spend, and the people that own us, who’ve never had to deal with not getting their way or encountered a problem they couldn’t solve with money, will find a way to get that money used for their gain….

Just like City did, despite it being perfectly possible to grow them more organically over time, just like Newcastle are already doing with their sponsors, despite already being a more “marketable” team than City were, and just like Qatar themselves did with the Neymar & Mbappe deals that broke the transfer market, or the World Cup bid that saw 7 FIFA officials arrested in the aftermath and a criminal investigation opened into the bidding process FFS!

it will happen. And all the same people will excuse it and defend it, precisely because being Man Utd will be the perfect cover for it, and a much more easily defendable reason for spending ludicrous sums. And even if it doesn’t, there will always be doubts as to whether it had. That’s tainting. It’s what tainting is. City haven’t been “convicted” of anything yet, but their success is tainted because everyone already believes they have.
So yes, it will happen.

You think it’s annoying having “moralists” in our own fanbase now? You’re gonna get bored of “defending” it. And of seeing everyone portray our non-state owned rivals as “proper” clubs and the moral victors whenever they beat us.

That’s the trade off. It’s absolutely fine to some, I’m sure. Many even. And being resigned to it is perfectly fine. But forgive me if I find the celebration and pre-emptive defence of it pretty gross, and entirely alien to how I engage with supporting this club, and my love of football in general.

And forgive me if I don’t in good faith think that a lot (not all) of people now pretending it’s all because of their newly found rabid hatred of the Glazers (no Glazer thread on this site has ever been as long or contentious as this!) wouldnt have been the same people dismissing or laughing at those who initially opposed them… because the snarky “I wonder whether those pesky moralists will still support the club or feck off!?” rhetoric sounds exactly like some past insults lobbied at United fans during a takeover… and it wasn’t by those against it.
Beautifully said. Post of the year candidate.

Think people have got carried away with the new company listing when, in reality, this is just standard practice for any bidder

Yes. But, based on the Reuters report, I would assume that discussions have intensified somewhat and the formal exclusivity phase is under discussion with Qatar (and possibly with Ineos) as the Glazers move closer to making a decision. The stock has dropped below $25 for the first time in an hour, so it would seem people recognise they jumped the gun somewhat - this sale still looks to be in the balance.

So the big news today is that Jassim and INEOS are in negotiations to buy the club. No change there then. Usual over the top giddiness based on a nothing piece of news.

Where the feck did Ben Jacobs come from anyhow? He didn't even exist until this year, when he was trying to muscle in on Matt Law's Chelsea beat. Then suddenly the Steve Merchant looking jive turkey became an expert on club acquisitions.
That blue tick on Twitter does wonders

You'd need to have essentially zero media literacy to interpret it that way.

I felt it was obvious he was pointing out the nonsense that the pure farce that this whole process has been? Thought that it was quite clear?

Do you have any actual knowledge about the process? Unless he has something clear and precise to point it, there is nothing clear about what you suggested.

How long did it take for Chelsea and the Commanders to complete sale? Just out of interest, I know not all sales are the same.

That’s what you transfer muppets pride yourselves on these days? “Media literacy”?

A source like reuters isn't running an exclusive to say things are exactly the same. If they're commenting, and their article says jassim's bid is viewed more favourably, its because exclusivity isn't far off. Places pick reuters and bloomberg and the BBC don't tend to run exclusives for a piece of nothing news.

Yup. Like you go to talk shit to a Liverpool fan after beating them - except now they just say "yeah well you're an oil club and have unlimited funds to do this so are you really happy"... You can't even respond to it. The whole social element of football, being proud to win, fighting your corner etc is all in the dust now. It's just like a private thing I'll keep to myself now basically.
Why care what they think, the same Liverpool fans that were begging for oil money when they got put up for sale?
It's not our fault nobody bid for them

The commanders started their process a bit earlier than United and ended it last month, though its worth mentioning that their owner was essentially thrown out of the NFL for a range of issues.

Edit: It should be said that while there is an agreement to sale the Commanders to Josh Harris, the sale isn't concluded.

Feels like people are clutching at straws desperately, the writing is on the wall.

I think we’re going to need a link for this

I think he means the whole process has been negotiating for exclusivity which is true, they've both been trying to get exclusivity since the bidding started. But that's why reuters running this story means it probably isn't far off, because otherwise their chief author for mergers and acquisitions is running an exclusive that's 4 months out of date and not exclusive at all. Clearly it isn't far off

Is that the way this “media literacy” thing works?!

Come on. He’s bidding to buy the club. The end game of which is entering a period of exclusivity. So that’s exactly what he’s been negotiating for over the last few months. The only actual progress would be a report that this has been granted. Which was very much not part of the Reuters update.

Yep, the anti Qatar lot, who believed every tweet from UK journos suggesting Jim had won, suddenly don't trust the media and express skepticism
