I can't remember a single poster claiming they would support another team if someone they disapprove of buys United.

Can you quote any?
Was just the assumption! My mistake if that's the case. These fans were just going to drop football?

Yet.. its not a state bid. PIF own Newcastle, Abu Dabhi own City and QSI own Qatar...

Its stereotyping that any money in the ME is State financed money.
But... aren't all those true? Not sure what your point is. An example of an individual owning a club without state help would be Malaga.

A state bid is a state bid, that is my point.

Abu Dabhi, Saudi and Qatar didn't need to pose as an individual to get ownership of the club.

So why is it a fact that this is a state bid?

Newcastle takeover took over two years if I remember correctly... whole thing was a circus in the public media. Maybe they wanted to avoid that.

Well for one neither Jassim nor his dad have the money to buy the club no matter how many people want to believe they have mysterious amounts of money hidden away the rest of us don't know anything about.

You have to be extremely naive to think this is not a state bid and therefore we must judge the state on what they down is they have been responsible for.

Now maybe some United fans can forget that and keep dreaming of Mbappe arriving I did one don't ink that is worth selling your soul for.

It will be a sad day of United are turned over to the state of Qatar so they can use us to hide their misdeeds

Exactly I was trying to have the exact same conversation last night on my double date with Beyoncé and Monica Bellucci. But couldn’t get a word in edgeways as they were too busy talking to each other about how incredible I am.

It’s a shame when people won’t listen to the facts.

Abu Dhabi did pose as an individual to own City.

That is a pretence they maintain to this day.

A strange way to avoid scrutiny, buying the most scrutinised sports entity in the world

Both City and Newcastle claim to not be state owned to be fair.

Fair enough.

Well I can't speak for everyone/anyone. But I've only seen people say they'll stop supporting United and/or having an interest in Football.

What is ironic in this case is that while not all people who want Qatar to buy the club will be Glory Hunters. It's a fair bet that at least 99.9% of Glory Hunters want Qatar to buy the club.

Not sure that your characterisation that fans in favour of Qatar are only so because they want ridiculous signings like Mbappe, this is what bugs me about this place everyone presumes to know what everybody else's motivations and opinions are.

I am for Qatar over Redcliffe because predominantly I want the Glazer's out and I want the club free of debt, I do not want spending like Chelsea it is unhealthy and unappetising.

As for any of the middle eastern states using sports washing, I get it but really if Qatar own Utd how does that cover over any of their human rights issues? more than owning half of London does? has owning City/Newcastle/PSG hidden the misdeeds of their state owners? hardly we are still talking about them, if anything before they took over the respective clubs, most Brits and I would estimate international fans neither knew nor cared about human rights in the middle east or China for that matter... I would argue that ownership of prestige sports clubs actually bring more knowledge and attention to these nations.... do you seriously think we would see a story in British tabloids about human rights in the middle east, feck that even on the BBC if it wasn't for state ownership of clubs?

I would say that if sportswashing was the idea then it has been badly misjudged, and repeatedly so, this is more about a middle eastern dick measuring contest than it is about anything else

I'm off work Tomorrow and Friday and I'm going away for a couple of days

I have a plan.

I'm going to switch my phone off tonight after 8pm and not turn it on until Saturday after 8pm (approx 72 hours). I'll have it so I won't get notifications and I'll pop into this thread straight away (which I've bookmarked) for the latest

Hopefully everyone behaves and it doesn't get locked in that time. And that I don't overhear any conversations in public

Do you think i'll come back to something significant or not?

I'll be a bit gutted if I don't. But I'll be glad of avoiding the saga for a few days anyway

Yeah, cuz if you wanted to hide your misdeeds, buying the single most famous football club in the World’s most famous league is the way to go…

Media and social scrutiny on any of Qatar’s ‘misdeeds’ will obviously go through the fecking roof if Jassim succeeds in buying Utd.

United is the most famous club in England and English media is notoriously tough on things like human rights abuses in ME countries.

If anything, it would signify a desire to assimilate rather than to ‘cover up’ it’s ‘misdeeds’ - as nothing will be easy to cover up if a Qatari ownership is in place.

Don't think there were any, but there are plenty who just follow success. You wonder if we started winning big again if some of those City fans would crawl back to us again.

I’ve asked this so many times and they never answer.

It seems there are not many who understand how the right kind of debt is a benefit to companies like Ineos, to the Qataris too as depending how They organise Their tax domicile they’ll be liable for tax in the UK, which can be reduced by debt and loans.

I have answered this question prior to this IIRC.

To answer your question you don't need to be a financial guru. There are plenty of options if you have a good credit rating to raise capital. Obviously, bank loans would be a priority. I remember Bank of America being involved with Jassim. There's an option to introduce new shareholders. Asset stripping of your assets (selling). Family and friends if they are rich (dad). I'm also not denying it could be a state-backed bid. I have no clue just as most on here.

Anyway, wherever the money is coming from both bidders have passed the financial test.

This is one of the most important reasons I pray Sheikh Jassin doesn't win the bid to buy United. Due to the enormity of the club, it will be us as Muslims vilified if things go north. I have heard a number of times foul-mouthed tirades towards the Glazers being of Jewish origin on the terraces given as the reasoning for the club in this situation. I don't want this directed at my faith and person from idiots with no brain cells.

I mean 6500 migrant workers died as a result of the world cup there not to mention everything else that went on.

I'm pretty sure the Glazers haven't been responsible for thousands of deaths
No they didn't.

6,500 south asians in the country died out of 1.8 million migrants (the current population) over 10 years. That's inline with normal mortality rates.

By the same token, you could say 50,000 south asians died in the UK over the same time period. Again, inline with normal mortality rates.

I posted this to someone else before and never got a reply. For those discussing the migrant workers issue, have you read through some of the accounts written by said workers? Some of the things I’ve read were absolutely horrific.

If they are glory hunters they can’t be very good ones and should have jumped ship 10 years ago. There is a difference between being a glory hunter and wanting your club to win things and be successful. I would hope every fan falls into that second category regardless of who you want the owners to be.

You want Ratcliffe Sults? I’m really shocked at that.

I don’t think what you’re worried about would happen btw - if 92 Foundation turned out to be a crap ownership (which I really don’t think they will), I don’t think people would start racially abusing them on the terraces, and if they did they’d get lifetime bans.

I do however think that with a Qatari ownership of Man Utd, the scrutiny of human rights in the ME would go up exponentially. But the same would have to be levelled at City and Newcastle, by the media I mean.
