We're not Man City, mate. Even before the potential Saudi ownership, we're already spending about as much as FFP allows. I don't expect our transfer spending to increase much following the purchase. It can't.

What we will be able to do though, is renovate the stadium and training/youth set-up, and clear the debt. Which I'm sure we can all agree is a good thing.

Agreed, we can spend money on infrastructure.

What I am saying is, it is a fact that Man City are where they are because of money. FFP is a joke anyway because City are fine with FFP and their owners put in £1bn and we are close to breaching whilst our owners have taken 1bn out.

Without money, City would still be fighting relegation, lets be honest, whilst we have been trying to compete even with poor owners.

How bad have the British press been then? said Jim is winning about a thousand times and even was in advanced talks wrapping up a deal they know absolutely feck all

The fact that it’s getting on for 11am and hardly anybody is denying the story says everything. Stones went so far to say people close to the deal are denying it’s been done….because it hasn’t been done yet, they won’t announce anything until the papers are signed
As is often true with the British press they think they can will things into existence. If they repeat it enough times it will somehow manifest out of their arses.

This is a United fans forum and people have the right to express their opinion.

Although I think people misunderstand EtH if they think he's somehow worried his potential success in 5 years could be tainted by actually having the resources which correspond to our club.
This bit is key to me. If we go out and sign Mbappe and we're paying him outlandish wages with offshore "sponsors" inflating his earnings, then fair enough to those claiming it was all superficial and state backed but up until that happens, it's a bit premature to start crying about it.

Yeah have said it since Jassim first declared his interest that I'm more intrigued to see what can be done with the stadium and training ground

This isn't the gotcha you seem to think it is.

Im not trying to get you or anyone...

Merely stating the facts, City are where they are because they got arab owners. The proof is there, pre arab money they were fighting relegation...

I get it, you think otherwise but people have different opinions.

Yet SJR hasn’t upped his bid since?

What if…
  • Neither of them were front runners but both of them were told that the decision hadn’t yet been made?
  • Qatar were proactive and kept pushing the envelope.
  • Ratcliffe was already at his (self imposed) financial limit and the best he could do was get creative with factors of minority ownership.
  • The Glazers have always wanted a full sale and had no real interest in being minority owners under Ratcliffes control but Raine knew they could use the threat to leverage pressure on the

Yep, so bottom line is we dont know. Which is what I am saying, no one knows.

I completely sympathise with those who feel morally conflicted with a potential Qatari takeover.

I felt the same, until I saw the media's nauseating wankfest over Manchester 155 charges City, completely ignoring their own sportwashing and financial corruption, and all this hyperbole about Pep being the greatest ever. Ultimately it seems that no one really seems to care.

So while taking the moral high ground might offer some temporary reprieve, I'd rather we go toe to toe with City and put them in their place, feck their period of unchallenged dominance. We'll always have been a club that's ascended organically and through merit, so we shouldn't be compared to the likes of City, Chelsea and PSG.

English media are still quiet about all this. Nothing about who is winning a race.
Yeah, so far nothing from any reliable sources. Could be one of those "transfer deal is imminent" stories that actually have no truth to them, you know the ones that happen 10 times a summer.

Question for those saying are success would be “brought” under the Sheikhs ownership. If we’d have won the league this season or at any point in the last 10 years, would you say we’d have bought the league? Because we’ve spent huge sums of money in that time. Now if we go on and spend similar amounts under Sheikh Jassim and start winning the big trophies then why is it suddenly “buying success” if there isn’t an increase in spending? Or is it simply down to whose name is above the door?

No that part is undeniable; but to try an equate any success United might find under a Qatari ownership to City is just fecking stupid.

We did earn our place at the table, unfortunately football has changed so much in the last decade that external influences and money is needed to consistently compete at the top. You'll get the odd team that can stand up to the might of City, but they're short-lived as they fall away when they can't financially compete.

I’ve got a feeling that yesterday’s “news” from the Qatari source may have been a bit premature or even wishful thinking on their part. Then, the share price increase was merely due to speculation based on that.

Not to say they won’t win, I just think we’re as we were.

You mean like scousers in 2020

Yes but we have been successful pre Glazers. Even though the Glazers have bee really bad, we still have spent money to try and be the best, sometimes a top tier manager comes along and you cant do anything about it, which is what Pep is.
With the money we spent we should have been able to spend more. It’s something like a Billion spend in 10 years but 1 billion was taken out.
That’s what I mean by Glazer rules. Make a bad buy like Maguire, Fred, Sancho and Pogba? We’re stuck with them. We can’t make a loss on their sales without needing to replace them at a higher rate and still improve in other areas.
City rotate players in and out because they can afford to. Laporte in the bench? No biggie. He’s gone in the summer no matter what loss they take. Madrid buy Hazard and Jovic at 200m odd? They’re not being forced to play the players, off to the bench they go alongside Bale. We’ll just operate transfers around them.
We are literally on that financial level but we have confused what Man Utd have become under the Glazers with what we are. If we were simply allowed to operate with what we generate you couldn’t tell a difference between that and being propped up by Qatar.

Personally I now think it's a case of the media admitting that once again this is a two horse race rather than Ratcliffe leading

Fake. If it was real there would be trending news for small bears and marmalade sandwiches.

Which is as credible as my dad saying that PeteReDevil has bought United
What are your Fiances like? how do you plan on managing the debt? I've heard rumours you have a dodgy human's rights record? is it true you are only buying united to get some positive press as people are angry that you arn't separating your recycling? How did you vote on Brexit?

I have only one question for you and people who've raised a similar argument. Has this been your consistent thought process through the years? With Chelsea, City and Newcastle, did you honestly never raise the oil/blood money or bought the success questions?

Or has it just changed because we may become one of them?

Yes.
Never have i said anything about their owners. And never have i ever come up with the notion of buying success.

I even defended City in regards to "it's their money to spend"

Even with all the money in the world, football is still played on the same field with the 11 players on each side.
That's why we love it.

It's not about people saying it, it's about us knowing it as fans.

Loads of people, very clearly.

And you have the will of power to stop rooting and having feelings about the club you supported your whole life because of owners?
Why didn't you stop (by you i mean "loads of people") rooting for United with Glazers owning us?
They're good people? Do we know anything about them?

What's the "line you won't cross" in regards to "owners of the club"?

No Uk press is saying anything, seems like there is some sort of embargo
Something will be announced soon

Feels like a proper gut punch, club as we know it is dead. For those who can enjoy the new state backed FM experiment I'm sure they'll have a grand time but it'll never be the same for a lot of us.

I said at the start of this I feel sorry for ETH. It looked like he could challenge on merit but now his success will be tainted by being another state plaything who bought success.

Previously, especially under SAF Utd had financial dominance over the rest of the league, arguably more-so than City do now, as back then very few teams could afford to rebuff the offers we made for players, whereas the lower clubs now have a much stronger financial footing.

What is clear if you look at the history of the PL (and before) is that the biggest factor in a club's success is the manager, City had money but have only had success under Pep, Utd were arguably the biggest club in England, but did not win a league title for 25 years before SAF came along, apart from the odd outlier the Prem title has been decided by the best managers, yes money helps but it is only one part of the picture, and probably not the most important one.

TBH I do not care what City do, clearly FFP is a joke and soon Newcastle will do the same, I could care less if opposition fans say we have bought success, that has been the case for as long as I remember, my only hope is that we continue to bring through players like Rashford, Garnacho and their predecessors

I’m certainly not getting my hopes up yet. I’ll carry on believing it will be Brexit Jim in bed with the Glazer parasites until proven otherwise. Will soften the blow much more when we do finally hear the outcome and it isn’t the one we want.

Yeah all we have had from the UK press is Stone saying significant share price rise and Jacobs saying neither party has heard yet if they are successful

I have not spoken about any further success for us under any ownership. I was talking about City.

Of course it can if we‘re debt-free - that completely changes our annual accounts.

Can't see how there would be an embargo, more likely the more reputable journalists are trying to get confirmation before they make any claims. It could simply be a case of the market having just had a dodgy tip and ran with it and we will be sitting here a month from now and there has been no news.

You mean like scousers in 2020

Exactly.

How long did they sustain that success before City re-established themselves at the top?

Pool did an admirable job pushing City for a season or two but they've fallen away again. Just like Arsenal will next season.

Absolutely terrible post. You're aware people dont wake up and decide oh I'm gonna be a fan of United and then switch the club they support on a whim?
You’re the fella who doesn’t want Qatar ownership and be looking for Mbappe next month when they takeover.
