I think what has decided it for me is that (and I'd missed this somehow), SJR owns Nice: I don't want anyone who is 100% United.

To be fair, I was leaning towards Qatar anyway because that would be Glazers handed their @rses and having their entry badges revoked (!) and, as others have said, this is the way the game is going: rich Middle Eastern businessmen will buy more PL clubs in the coming years so we may as well not be too far behind the curve...

I don't much like the outcome politically but we've had Russian oligarchs in charge of PL teams, and I don't much like that either. Also, vitally, I just have a feeling that Jassim will appoint better people and be more likely to sit back and let them get on with it where SJR may be more of a Ted Boehly. No real evidence for this, just a feeling

Ratcliff will get a chance regardless because he'd be coming in as a new owner.
Yeah, most people will be optimistic, I'm sure. Not most posters in this thread, perhaps, but the vast majority of Man Utd fans will just be pleased that Glazer rule is no more.

SJR/INEOS bid is shit, he's just a media darling to have favouritism. And if anyone has any clue about the newspapers, it is that they are not to be trusted.

You realise you don't get a choice so none of this matters?

We will (probably) get knew owners, and will we have to give them time and hope they are compitent.

I agree. Hence why I disagree with those who automatically tags as ridiculous those who believe that the majority of Qatari women are happy with the way they are living. I saw an entire generation of women who were happy with being treated in similar conditions myself. Even in 2023 women politicians barely make it into the Maltese parliament despite the fact that the best current politician BY FAR is a woman (we're talking Churchill vs Truss gap here). Malta is a EU country btw, who is democratic, who has strong British and European roots and whose got more women voters then men. Yet women constantly refuse to vote women politicians and they are insanely conservative on issues such as abortion for example. As said Malta has more rigid abortion rules then Saudi.

Societies that repress women vote for women less often? Who would have guessed?

Pretty much. Plus if someone has already bought the club, irrespective of who they are, then there's not much to be done at that stage. Most sane fans will come together to support the new owners (or I'd hope so anyway).

Yup here, Exhibit A why they dont want to leave, absolute vermin

Not a chance. Can you imagine the build up to every buy out the Glazers window?
It will never be clean as long as the Glazers are there

If Ratcliffe comes in and sign Harry Kane and Declan Rice then the majority of fans will give him a chance
Its sad that everyone judges owners basically by how much they spend in the transfer market.

What we need is an owner who will sort the infrastructure at the club, sort out the stadium, the training complex, and ensure there are competent people in charge of scouting and recruitment, contract and scouting negotiations and get the debt under control. We don't need an owner who is just going to come in and spend in the transfer market, the glazers have spent a $h!t tone over the last decade, the problem is most of it has been wasted because the people handling the chequebook have had no idea what they are doing.

Being subjective here, they are employees of Manchester United. Board of directors. You expect him to fly economy so goldbridge spergs will assault him.

EVERYONE at United gets private jets. Even Telles and Fred had a private jet when they had to fly out for internationals.

Sports journalists that have nothing to report on Monday morning, will just tweet anything to wind people up. That’s why I don’t get over emotional about the Glazers because half the staff reported is all nonsense.

Buying super stars is the easiest way out isn't it? Thus I can see Ratcliffe coming in, he'd add British players in the mix, he'd make some promises about the stadium and voila, United is back to Manchester bla bla bla. The same happened with other clubs as well. A frustrated Juventus threw away their mature way of doing football to add that super star capable of winning that CL win that kept alluding them. First it was Higuiain and then Ronaldo etc. Turned out that not only they didn't win the CL but they ended up losing their dominance in the Serie A and in reaching the latter stages of the CL.

In my opinion we need to uproot the whole thing from the very foundations. Let's bring back the mentality that everything remotely linked with United need to be best in class. Once that happens then success will come on its own. That's how I would work with United. Unfortunately I can't see Ratcliffe being that type of owner

I mean, they actually own the club! People online have been reacting to this news as if it were some sort of fraud! Avram Glazer putting 250k on the books simply is what it is. He owns a business, and suprise surprise - reaps financial benefits from owning it.

Sooner he’s gone the better, but this is an absolute nothing story.

Those thinking SJ will buy another team instead and turn them into a global superpower have clearly never seen what happened with Malaga.

Malta doesn't repress women. Actually women are far more successful then men in this country. FFS the president of the EU is Maltese and she's more respectable then every male at the Maltese parliament + Westminster combined.

I am referring to a mentality here. For some strange reason women don't like going into politics here and when they do they tend to vote for males. Don't ask me why because I don't. The same with abortion (Malta has the worse anti abortion rules in the world, worse then Saudi). I am pro abortion and I assure you that the fiercest anti abortion people in the country are actually women. Most are very well educated as well (mostly doctors)

Mentality change when the local population want it changed. When I was young Malta was a homophobic country were you risked getting knocked down on the street if you kiss someone of the same sex. Today it has one of the most pro gay laws in Europe. This obsession of changing/forcing other countries to change mentality is a colonial thing and it never works. Think it in this way. Most countries find the UK obsession with Sirs and the royal family as frigging weird. Many ask why on earth does one of the oldest democracy in the world obsess on these bunch of entitled inbreds? However do you think things would change if the US or the EU decide to hound the UK about it? In all probability it would make things worse

Ok assume Joel and Avram stay;

1. 20% no controlling power, no decisions they can only offer advice and hope the club is successful, SJR won’t listen to one thing they say!

2. Qatar will buy another EPL team and in 2 years that Team like Newcastle and City will occupy 3 of the 5 CL spaces allotted by then.

3. SJR owned team with Cycle people in charge maybe even more incompetent than the Glazers who you would hope after 18 years gave sone understanding of Soccer in this country. United, Villa, Spurs, Liverpool, Arsenal now competing for 2 CL spaces

4. The stadium is not renovated, the debt left the club stands still, the shares drop, they still have guaranteed price at year 3 or year 4 but what would their cash have looked like had they invested the lump sum tax free that the sheikh had promised 3-4 years ago, SJR then moves the registration of the club from Cayman Islands to the UK and now they are subject to 15% capital gains tax on their 20% shares and they can’t do one thing about it !

5. The Glazers want to play a cricket game in Qatar with their IPL Franchise to raise money, like other IPL teams but they are blocked

6. The Glazers ask the Qatari for an NFL game in Middle East but again blocked

7. The Glazers want to stay in Clarridges for a meet with SJR in London but the hotel won’t accept their credit card

In short the Qataris will be the worst business losers ever, I would not be surprised that if the Glazers even try to fly into the Middle East or through it for connecting flights, that they banned indefinitely if they turn down the Qatari bid, they want more money it’s simple however SJ might say to his people one more bid of £5.8bn if they say no, we ruin them and guess what it couldn’t happen to nicer People !

All of that is all well and good but this is business afterall. There is no sense of loyalty, its all about extracting the most for your bottom line.

yeah I agree. coming in spending 100 million on a 30 year big name striker, will make friends in the short term, bu that isnt what united needs. In needs its ifastrucure tearing up starting again and getting people who know what they are doing in the right positions, not the yes men job for the buys culture we have had for the last decade.

If you want to win in today's game, you don't just need money you need the knowledge of how to build a sustainable football team, if the first move a new owner makes is spending near 100 million on Kane then we know that they don't have that knowledge.

The more interesting aspect of this story is not the story itself, but rather who leaked it and to what purpose. It looks like the Glazers are about as popular with United's staff as they are with United fans.

This all ends with an Apprentice-style “ I’ve decided to leave the process” from the Sheikh. “I’m going to focus my energies on becoming Essex’s number one mobile tanning van. This isn’t the last you’ve seen of me”.

That's very racist against Essex people. I live in Essex and to call us all 'orange' is an insult. Not all the women look like Oompah-Loompahs and the men David Dickenson, only half of us do :-)

Anyway, Alan Sugars got the tanning business sewn up in Essex.

Well I have clearly seen where Newcastle were before their buyout, what am I missing ?

That’s my point this is yet another unashamedly plot to extract another 400-500 billion pounds from SJ or SJR is it not ?

Disagree. Strongly.

It’s only racist against most Essex folks. You people always overreact.

If women aren't voting for women and the fiercest anti-abortion advocates are women you have a societal problem that creates these attitudes. Presumably driven by the pervasive influence of the Catholic Church.

And I find the obsession with, and the existence of the, royals both ludicrous and archaic, and I'd have no problem with anyone stating that they had problems with it.

Those thinking SJ will buy another team instead and turn them into a global superpower have clearly never seen what happened with Malaga.

Have you even bothered to read up on what happened with Malaga or did you just look at the nationality of the owner?

Nice protests over poor ownership. Starting to think SJR winning the bid could end up being even worse than our current set up. People hate the Glazers so much (justifiably) that they think it's impossible to get a worse owner. The reality is that there are even worse owners out there than the Glazers (they just don't run top clubs). We have shown some progress this season. Getting very concerned that this guy could come in and send everything tits up.

I personally agree with this, but I can just imagine the British press if another country, or god forbid the EU, suggested we get rid of them, the Mail and the Express alone would have a field day and it would probably dramatically increase favourable opinions towards the royal family.
