What's to say the banks would give the new owners the credit for the debt owed?

they'll either have to renegotiate the terms of the debt or pay off the debt if they want to buy the club

either way, the money is coming from the new owners and not the Glazers

Itll be an interesting next 6 months or so to see what will happen with the Glazers, hopefully they stick to their word and sell up. Its been a bit quiet, maybe Qatari owners are waiting for the end of the world cup before exploring a deal or its all been kept a secret and negotiations are already happening.
Would love the club to have a new stadium built from it all as well and get the training ground modernised so we can be at the forefront of the sport for years to come.

Agree, but it means its not an additional amount to the quoted $5-7bn and would be a deduction instead to pay it off.
Id like to think the debt would be wiped when/if the new owners arrive.

There's a difference. Taking on the debt means it'll still be there. Clearing the debt means it won't be there and won't be taking it on.

okay, I understand what you mean now.. Yes obviously this is the case

I thought you were suggesting some of the debt will be on the Glazers

"Manchester United co-owner Avram Glazer has held talks with potential investors during his trip to Doha for the World Cup, including from Saudi Arabia and Qatar."

Hate to be the bearer of bad news (speculation), but it is hard to not fear that any situation where Avram Glazer is involved in direct talk with investors, it is not regarding a full sale but a partial investment. It does not have to be about that, negotiating with the Empir of this and that country, perhaps you just want "the seller" in the room instead of just suits/advisors. But it is a fact that Avram and Joel as late as a few months ago went full steam ahead to get an investor. In addition, Avram's "role" in a full sale is just minor. Why would talking to him be of any interest for a buyer? It is an auction process.

And it seems that they have failed in this endeavour, hence going public with the "strategic alternatives" to generate interest. They are simply taking a negotiation stance, as they are undoubtedly being told to do by the Raine Group.

The club is totally for sale. You can quote me on that.

why do people think Qatar?

I think an oil state is most likely just wondering why them

What the hell am I supposed to do if Qatar take over the football club?

Would genuinely be one of the worst days of my life.
Don't know. Extremely hard for a local. I, myself, will stop following United when that happens.

I suppose the World Cup may have opened their eyes to the potential of football investment. Though I'm unaware if they already have a club in their portfolio? PSG?

Which is in complete contradiction to the line in the article that the Raine group are looking for a full sale in Q1 2023.

Why are people so adamant that it won't be a partial sale? Isn't it the case that Joel and Avram wanted to buy their siblings out but just couldn't afford it? If so then I could see an oil state buying the siblings interest with Joel and Avram holding onto their share.

Might be better than full sale to oil state and it would hopefully lead to some debt clearance and investment in the stadium.

I don't see an oil state buying a share in any club, simply for the fact that they haven't so far and why would they ?

Why would an oil state buy 50% of United for example when they can just go and buy Liverpool....

I can't see an oil state going anything less than 100% on a sportswash project.

Actually, 50% would be enough for a controlling stake iirc, since the Rat family have about 66% of the stock and it's the one with the most voting power. The remainder of stock is hardly relevant.

Start following Salford City? As for United, Qatar won't stop me loving my club. There are some nations that probably would have that effect but I can just about put up with Qatar.

That's what people have been saying for 18 years. The weakest argument against the Glazer's has always been this insistence that we had no money for buying new players hoping that nobody noticed how much money we were throwing (recklessly at times) at buying new players

That narrative that was pushed when for 18 years people could see it was demonstrably untrue, has been the single biggest driver in apathy towards protests against the owners.
You do realise that latest financials showed us at record levels of debt, credit maxed out (line of credit is where player purchases were coming from), cash reserves gone and it was so bad the Glazers didn’t take a dividend?

I work in corporate finance and owners of assets and investors talk all the time.
They would like an auction but it is early not that. The number of interested parties is just too few.
Chelsea was a uniquley great deal, he ce the number of bidders. I am guessing this will be a direct sale.
I am not saying there's no chance of a minority stake sale but the Glazers speaking to poitential investors is no evidence of that.

We’ve had 17 years of disassociating the ownership of the club from the club itself - it’s never been the Glazers club in my eyes and it won’t be the next owner’s either whoever that may be. They’ll feck off eventually too.

Is this true? Can you explain how Bohely has done this?
Bohely didn’t have the money to buy chelsea so he took £800m worth of debt on from Clearlake Capital but he isn’t allowed to leverage it against the club (like the Glazers) but Chelsea will still service the debt. This protects the club from administration but not the individual from bankruptcy.

I will celebrate the day they leave the club with fireworks. Cant wait to see the back of the fecking leaches.

I don't understand why any investor(s) would be content with pumping billions into the club while Avram and Joel sit back and count the money while investing none of their own.

Bottom line is we need the Arab billions to get us back to the top on and off the pitch

Who is stupid enough to give money to Avram Glazer for him to sit put in united? Noone will want to be partners with those idiots.
