Did not find an earlier thread. Seems like we made an offer for him.

http://forzaitalianfootball.com/2014/01/manchester-united-make-offer-for-juventus-midfielder/

Forza Italian Football has learned that the Manchester giants made an offer of around €25 million for the 27-year-old, who has appeared on 13 occasiona in Serie A for the Bianconeri this season.
United also enquired about the availability of French starlet Paul Pogba, who signed for Juve from the English side, but that request was flatly refused.
Marchisio, a current Italian international, has found his place in the Juventus starting eleven under threat with the emergence of Pogba, thus with the impending World Cup in Brazil, he may well favour the chance of regular football elsewhere.

Have not seen him play myself, but a google search mentions "Marchisio's primary strengths are his work ethic, dribbling, precise short passing, teamwork, and shooting. He is also versatile and is able to play out wide in a three- or four-man midfield or in defensive midfield. His preferred and most effective position is in central midfield, where he is given the license to freely switch between defence and attack instead of concentrating on a single role."

Interesting!

Opinions?

Will never happen but he's exactly what we need. Great player. Bizarre that we made an offer for Pogba (if true).

Reports about Marchisio could be true, Pogba reports are bullshit, dont think we'd be that naive.

i think he is going to end up being another De Rossi - speculation every once in a while, but nothing really happening

He'd be a great signing and I really hope this is true along with the Coentrao. It would greatly improve us and give us way more options.

He's been at Juventus over 20 years, why would he leave now?

Yeah I'm not too sure on this one. I definitely think he's 'gettable', more so than the likes of Gundogan and Fabregas, but would he be open to the move? IIRC he's currently the Juve vice-captain, and like you say he's been at Juve pretty much his entire career. I guess it comes down to whether he wants a new challenge.

For me there's no doubting his quality though. This bloke wouldn't solve all our problems (not by a long shot!) but immediately we'd become a much more complete side.

Have always heard decent things of him but to be honest, I have never really watched him enough to make an informed decision on him. Would improve the team though, no doubt.

I'd like if we went for Marchisio. He is playing but not every game.

Can't read too much at not getting a game in that 3 man midfield at Juve. So much talent in there.

Pogba has taken Marchisio's place in the team, and only seem's to play when Pirlo is rested.

He is certainly on the list of players I would look at, but whether he will want to leave his boyhood club is another thing. Definitely worth a punt though!.

If I was Woody, I'd propose a multi-swap deal. Pirlo, Pogba, Vidal and Marchisio for Carrick, Cleverley, Anderson and Giggs. If they're stalling throw in Bebe.

10(3)out of 18 games in the Serie A and 3 CL starts. Vidal, Pogba and Pirlo are all playing more.

Interesting. He's come out earlier with comments about us and PSG() definitely being clubs that would interest him iirc.

Straight swap for Nani works for me....I guess we can even throw in €5 mill

Right now, that is probably a fair bid. He's had a tough season so far with injuries and losing his position in the starting XI.

This is Euros, not pounds, so about £20.5 million, a whole £7 mil less than we paid for Fellaini. Juve most probably have no desire to sell, as well as probably knowing how desperate we are to buy, so I would expect £25 million at least, even with the lack of game time and injuries. They are supposedly interested in Nani, so maybe a rare swap could be in place.

Says more about the Fellaini deal than anything else. As to Juve having no desire to sell or Marchisio not wanting to leave - probably.

Nani to Juventus has been rumoured for years now. One the one hand, he doesn't fit the 3-5-2. On the other hand, Conte has complained about the lack of attacking wingers. He did initially start out with a 4-4-2 and 4-3-3.

Trust me, I would love nothing more than to get a brilliant footballer like Marchisio at £20 million, absolute steal if we pulled it off. But it's not the money I can sadly see us paying, and the January premium will surely be in there. Like you said though, his injuries and lack of playing time due to the emergence of Pogba and the preference of Vidal and Pirlo may make Marchisio force a move for first team action.

Yeah but surely we can't go into every negotiation using our own previous examples of over-spending as the benchmark? Fellaini was different because it was left so late in the day. Marchisio is not an essential player at Juve and is about to turn 28, he's not going to command a huge fee unless we are suckered once again. I'd happily see us pay £25m for him but I don't think we can go much higher unless Moyes is as desperate as us fans are.

I think we've been desperate for a CM for long enough, and is the main crisis we have right now. We were apparently willing to pay £20 million for Baines who is 2 years older and not as necessary, so I can't see why an extra £5-10 million couldn't be spent on a player who we need much more? We usually overspend yes, but on the wrong players to overspend on. If we were to overspend on a quality player then I see no qualm, it's not my money they are spending nor will it put us into a huge amount of debt.

10m + Nani could the trick.
Don't think anyone wants to touch Nani, if they did, they would have signed him when he had less time on his contract. Galatasaray valued him at under 10m. No big teams will want anything to do with him.

Juventus would never take a risk and sell a key pkayer mid season...they are set to walk the serie A title again and will not do anything silly to upset the balance of the team..., sometimes a key player finds themselves on the bench at a club for doing no wrong....we've had world class players on the bench over the years like scholes and tevez and now kagawa simply down to the fact that we became over stocked in certain areas and you just don't sell players of that quality in mid season unless you really need to raise funds for other areas of the team and juve are strong in all areas now pretty much...only players I can think of in central midfield that could be available in january are matic, alex song, banega, axel witsel etc and I doubt any of those players would fit the description of what we need
