CL Semi-Finals 13/14 - April 22,23,29,30

I don't think it's just winning the title early that's made Bayern relax and lose their edge.

They've had too easy a season, they haven't had to think enough or fight enough. Madrid are a challenge to their concentration and their speed of thought every time they go forward.
The warning signs were there against Arsenal: they looked surprised by their intensity in the first 30 minutes or so. Arsenal just ran out of steam and missing the penalty affected them as well.

I predicted Real to go through, but didn't think it was going to be so easy. They seem overpowered without a single weak spot. Hopefully they won't stop in the second half, I want to see total carnage here.

Question, when was the last time a Champions League final was contested between two teams from the same City?

Good question. Don't think it has ever happened though, as in the old competition only the league champions were allowed entry.

Pep shares that AVB trait of always wanting the same formula and refusing to adapt to circumstances. That lack of pragmatism costs them heavily.

That's been the problem tonight. He is getting beat on heavily yet still won't change it. This philosophy bullshit is too much at times.

If I said "when" we get to the final I would be called arrogant. I cant win :(
And its not over till its over. Remember Liverpool in 05.

Bit of difference between needing 3 goals and 5 goals though pal lol enjoy this 45 minutes, plan for the final and get ready to watch a master class of bus parking from Jose.

Neville is so annoying. Madrid have better players than us in every single position required to play that way.

Besides which, Van Gaal plays exciting football making use of wingers anyway!
The way Gary is going on you would think we were going to bring Pep in as manager. As you say LVG has a good style of football, that is all he should be worried about.

Mandzukic is shit. No loss in taking him off. Correct decision but 45 minutes too late!

Ermm they are 4 goals down. I could understand Pep taking him off for another striker but not Martinez. I guess he doesn´t want a more embarassing score

This second half is gonna be such a non-contest.

Just want Ronaldo to spank one in from 35 yards or something just to liven it up.

If Real were to buy Suarez, would that be the most dangerous front 3 in modern football history?

What language you reckon the Spanish and German players speak to each other in? I could have swore Ramos was speaking to Muller in English.

I bet he is feeling like that right now.

BVB will turn us into pieces in the DFB Pokalfinale if we keep playing like that..

Not gonna lie. My innitial reaction to the first two goals was: "Reus will have a field day with that defending of set pieces". I´m looking forward to the Cup final. The first game this season we were in a crippled state and thus lost our most effective weapon. Second time was a convincing victory, but everyone pointed at the lack of relevance of that game. The third time will actually have a trophy on the line. Lets see how this ends...

Yes. The pragmatism is one of Ancelotti's strength. He does have a style, and a philosophy, he even has a favourite formation. But he knows how and when to tweak it.

Before the match he said they weren't coming here to stop Bayern scoring, they were here to win the tie and that meant scoring.

Dortmund beat them 3-0 recently too. Same style, about 150m less to build. You just need to find the right players, they don't all cost world record prices.
I appreciate that. Barcelona destroyed us in two finals and more teams will use a highly possession based style and win again. It's just annoying using this 'I told you so' nonsense every time it works - like there's one style that works in football. Teams will come and go and both styles will work and fail - popping your head out when it goes your way is tedious.

They have Muller on the field who's more likely to get goals than Mandzukic is.

@jojojo
Totally agree. Bayern have looked undercooked in every big European game this season.
Ironically by becoming so powerful that they dwarf every other team in their league, they can't get good enough sparring to prepare for a big fight.

A fully fit Dortmund might have kept them on their toes as well. Bayern were devastating last season, why try to change their style.
I can understand him wanting to change some things, he wants to try it his way. But to come in to a treble-winning team with a good winning formula already in place and change everything right from the off is what I don't get. Shouldn't have changed the play style of the team so much in my opinion, but again it's his first season in a new country. And we are losing to a great team in Madrid, not Birkirkara or some other minnow.

By the way we also lost 5:2 to Dortmund under Jupp, it wasn't all rainbows and happiness then!

I know but it´s not enough when you are trying to recover. But i guess he gave up on trying to qualify.

Yeah that's obviously true, there's no one style that works. Would much rather united play like that then pep's style though. It worked brilliantly with Barca because they had the best player ever in messi up top to get loads of goals, and then Xavi and iniesta to create and control everything. Bayern have become incredibly dull and blunt these last few months because teams have just figured them out. Sit back, counter, and they're clueless on how to break you down.

You're speaking to the right fans about managers coming in and trying to change too much too soon.:)

If Real were to buy Suarez, would that be the most dangerous front 3 in modern football history?

It would be terrifying thats for sure.

I really would love him to go to Madrid, not even to see him leave the Premier League and leave Liverpool, but I just think it'd be a shame if we never get to see those 3 play together.

Neville is so annoying. Madrid have better players than us in every single position required to play that way.
He really is.

Madrid have Bale and Ronaldo. Two of the best, and quickest, players in the world.

How do United adapt this style of play when we our wing options include Valencia (indecisive) Nani (hopelessly inconsistent) and Young (shit)?

I see Neville's name being mentioned as a possible coach for us and I dread the thought of it happening.

 I see what you were trying to do, but come on, nobody will call you arrogant for that.

Liverpool didn't score 5 in the second half by the way.

Mandzukic goes off and now they're crossing. What a brilliant idea.

Pep made Bayern use a system which was destroyed by this Bayern team last season. I can't understand the logic.
