CL Semi-Finals 13/14 - April 22,23,29,30

Never thought I'd say this but jaimie carragher is spot on here. I'd say he's been better than Neville this second half of the season

Madrid's year. Ancelotti won that battle comfortably, I think Guardiola tinkers too much for his own good at times.

Disappointed by pep. His bayern were too pedestrian and easy to nullify. I don't see why they don't quicken the tempo every now and then. Barca could do that. They would at times just pop the ball about among each other really quickly and open teams right up. Bayern have been too predictable and lacking in penetration of late.

Also, while much of the talk is on the other three coaches, ancelotti is himself one of the best when it comes to the cl. If madrid win the cl, he'll be the first to win 3 won't he?

Lahm in midfield when he had a galore of midfielders to choose from didn't make too much sense.

Did Ancelotti play a 4-4-1-1 in the defense today? I was almost certain about it but looking at the starting formation on whoscored says it was a 4-3-3.

why should he? He went out to win the game like Ancellotti

Why? Because he lost having the best team in Europe and their performance was as bad as Chelsea´s. Mourinho got criticized after an european semi away draw. In the end it´s all about results.

CL yes, not if you include EC.

Just realised that we finally beat guardiola at the bernebeu. First season that he hasn't gone to the bernebeu and won.

Totally agree with them all, Guardiola trying to be too needlessly fancy all the time instead of just doing the simple thing.

Did you guys play a 4-4-1-1 this game in the defense? You defended in clear lines of 4 and 4 then either a 1-1 or a 2?

Deserved win for Real. Xabi Alonso, Modric and Pepe have been great, Xabi Alonso especially is such a brilliant and irreplaceable player for Spain and Real.

Btw, Oliver Kahn is saying that Ribery has not been the same player since the Balon D'or night as he was sure he was going to win it. He says Ribery is a professional footballer and should now get over it.

Not sure about fancy. But it don't know why he doesn't get them to up the tempo sometimes.

Why is that? And I thought top teams find ways to win both at home and away.

Not in the Champions League. Almost all the successful teams keep the score down away and win the tie at home. That's what we always did in our successful period with Ronaldo/Rooney/Tevez. It's what Barcelona did under Pep as well.

Will Ancelotti? Parking the bus at home with all the money they've got etc etc. Na, it's only Mourinho that gets that sort of criticism.
Nope. There's a difference between trying to win by soaking pressure and countering and just trying to kill a game.

How many times? Tonight was counter attacking football, Mourinho last night didn't even bother trying to get his team to counter.

Pep's Barcelonification of Bayern is complete. Ironic considering it was that same Bayern who dismantled that type of football a season ago.

The cheating from Real Madrid's players was annoying. Pepe rolls around, Carvajal rolls around, Alonso heads a ball out of play then claims an outrageous push. No idea why Bayern put the ball out when it was obvious they were play-acting and it just encourages them to do it again. Play on and if you score while they're down to 10 men they'll soon cut it out.

Agent Pep, your work is done. Mission accomplished!

You can't compare Ancelotti and Mourinho's set ups respectively.

Ancelotti had them countering, knowing fine well they could get their chances, and they did. Mourinho stuck out a side to do absolutely nothing but absorb pressure and get away with a goalless draw.
