City Transfers This Summer

So, so far (according to the wisdom of the caf) they are buying RVP, Bale, Hazard, Thiago Silva, Alves. That's about £200 million right there.

Yaya is angling for a pay rise and will stay. Tevez is apparently an easy, good guy to manage so he's staying. Mario is the loveable rogue of a son Mancini never had so he's staying.

And on the way out we seem to think is Johnson, and maybe Kolo Toure. Presumably for an estimated £100million each in order to balance the books?

:wenger:

There is no way even City would be that stupid to spend another £100million+ without selling a bunch of high earners. I just can't see it happening. Anyone have any idea what their current wage bill is?

Not sure exact figures but it is considerably less than Barca and Real's. Around 30% less...

Ours is half of Barca's bill.

That may be true, but Barca and Real also have considerably more of an income than merely 142% of City's.

With the FFP approaching I find this transfer window very interesting. I know quite a lot of people have no faith whatsoever in the new rules, but as a rather idealistic person I'm not writing it off before I've seen how they enforce it.

Personally I agree with those who think City will have a big problem unless they offload some of their top earners this summer. Which of course brings up the issue of who in their right mind will agree to match the wages of what some of these guys are on already. Wayne Bridge probably earns three times more in City than what he would be offered in any other club barred Chelsea. I also don't see who can afford the wages of Adebayor else than Real, Barca, Chelsea, or Anzhi. And what club will touch Balotelli and Tevez if they decide to try and move them?

Personally I think City really need more depth behind their key players more than two-three more world beaters. It'd be interesting to see how they would cope with an injury crisis leaving out Kompany, Yaya, Aguero and Silva for a couple of months.

Whats stopping one of The Sheiks cronies in Dubai from signing a 17 year old lad from the academy in City for 100 million pounds, that was given as a gift to him from the sheik?

Not looking so busy in the transfer market after all. It seems the FFP is on their radar still.

Is there that many players available who could be actually be an improvement?

Mancini certainly seems to think so! He can't stop whining about it to the press. Tbh, I don't see anything you need other than possibly a center back as cover. You don't use wingers, so I don't see what else your squad really needs.

I agree with you totally. Maybe back up for Yaya when he goes to ACON but I would wait till January before we looked at that as there really is not players of top quality available at the minute.

I think there is a bit of truth in everything. We do seem to be playing by FFP but there is not really any stand out players available.

Mancini seems to be flexing his muscles in a power struggle with Marwood. It seems to be more politics that transfer muppetry.

You could do with another centre half. Many are better than Lescott and your back-up options are lousy, Toure hasn't been very good for a while and Savic is plain crap. Also, a wide option would be welcome as Johnson and Milner aren't all that. You could also do with a class midfielder next to Yaya - someone better than De Jong and Barry. There are plenty of ways to improve your squad, even Barcelona managed to do it on top of a perfect season last year and your weak CL campaign last season along with early EL exit showed that you can be better (so can United obviously).

True. Who do you think will win there?

I don't think anybody can actually "cover" for Yaya. The guy is a beast. Most cover will be a big downgrade. Do you think there is any truth in the city bid for Rodwell? I can't see it being true.

Name some names then mate.

Agger by all accounts is on the radar and Sinclair. I would be happy at them two.

I agree with you about Johnson but Milner is a handy squad player who can play a number of roles.

You will be hard pressed to realisticaly find better than De Jong and Barry. De Jong is very good at what he does and Barry is criminally under rated. De Rossi granted would be an improvement but it is not likely to happen.

Pointless spunking more money on players that will be sat on the bench and we can not get rid off. We are struggling with Hughe's left overs at present.

I am more than happy in what we have. considering it is probably the best squad in our entire history then I would have to be.

You would say Mancini would win, but I do not know anything about what goes on behind the scenes and how good Marwood is at his job.

I don't believe the Rodwell rumour mate tbh.

A look at history proves the only way to build a dynasty is to strengthen when on top. Barca, madrid, united, 90s milan, all the same. Thoses that didnt.....blackburn, leeds, arsenal, didnt work out too well. The only time we really didnt we had the class of 92 coming through, and thats not going to happen again any time soon. Considering we will be stronger this season, and pushing even harder are tevez and balotelli really the sort of players with the stomach for a fight? One will just not play, the other is likely to do anything between getting suspended and going on a shotgun rampage through the trafford center........tick tock dave.

Cook and Marwood are a pair of turds, a hangover from the Hughes era. You should get shot of them.

I liked Cook in a 'he is a clown, but he is our clown' type of way. For all his guffuffs, he was a hard nosed businessman who was good at his job. It was a shame how it all ended with Cook.

Marwood I can not really comment on as I have no idea what his job entails. It does seem strange though that we do not have a CEO in place and we are using Marwood when there are people like David Dein and Peter Kenyon out of work.

I was going to post something very similar. There is no place for standstill, and there is always room to improve any team.

Tevez looks really up for it at the moment, but for how long? He's almost inevitably going to hit the buffers at some stage, be dropped, throw his toys out of the pram. His track record would suggest it's a matter of when, not if. Balotelli has a lot of growing up to do still, and I think that will be another couple of seasons work for you. A lot will depend on how those 2 behave. I'm genuinely suprised after the trouble they both caused that they have both been allowed to stay though.

I'm confused by the Rodwell signing. I think it makes sense for City to a degree but for Rodwell? He couldn't get in the Everton team, how does he think he's going to get into the City team? He's just swapped benches.

More of a Marwood 'one for the future' signing to comply with FFP, then Mancini me thinks.

Nigel de Jong looks set to be the biggest name using the revolving door at Manchester City on Friday.

De Jong has been a big presence in recent seasons, even if he has struggled to find top form over the past couple of years, which have been blighted by problems sorting out a new contract.

Now the combative midfielder is on the brink of joining AC Milan, with the official Milan TV channel saying on Thursday night: "De Jong is on his way to Milan. The medical will be performed tomorrow."

It seems bizarre that the richest club in the world should be among those doing the most business amid the mad scramble of transfer deadline day.

City manager Roberto Mancini certainly did not want it this way, however, that is how it has transpired.

And as Great Britain Olympic star Scott Sinclair and Serbia defender Matija Nastasic are set to join from Swansea and Fiorentina respectively, others are on their way out.

Stefan Savic will not be missed too much as he heads to Fiorentina as part of the Nastasic deal.

City, who entertain Swansea on Saturday evening, have also been linked with big-money deals for Theo Walcott and Maicon.

However, it seems unlikely either man will have joined the Blues prior to Friday night's deadline as City remain determined to get somewhere close to meeting UEFA's strict Financial Fair Play rules.

maybe City have, late in the day, decided that the whole FFP thing can be ignored.

Tbh Villa wont be much of an upgrade on tevez / aguero anyway, not worried.

Talksport reporting on the radio that City are in talks to sign David Villa from Barca!

So they'll have Aguero, Tevez, Dzeko, Balotelli and Villa. Their entire bench will be made up of midfielders and strikers

We have Rooney, RvP, Welbeck and Chicharito. We all know it's likely that Rooney & RvP will be the main strike pairing, while Welbeck & Chicharito will be the back up on the bench. I can't see City keeping all five strikers happy if they signed Villa.

It's going to be Mercenary Carnage there. Tevez's annual 'V flicking to his city money printing machine' jaunt to South America for 'time off' confirmed

 How the feck do you work that one out?

Because he's surplus to requirements, he won't get a lot of game time. And Villa hasn't played consistently well for a long time. He has one very good game, and then mediocrity follows.

But the bigger point is that Man City need more reinforcement in defence to really make an improvement on last season. They do not need more midfielders or strikers.

Don't forget Angelo Henriquez who we have signed. He might only be 18, but he looked really special to me in his youtube! :nervous: :D

SAF has claimed he will be staying and not going out on loan, so i am pretty excited by this kid. Hope he can make a Chicarito like impact for us.

City will have plenty to choose from and it wouldn't surprise me if they sign Villa now, then one of Balotelli or Dzeko will probably have to look to move in January.

Hang on. He is surplus to requirements before they have even signed him!

Villa has been unlucky with injuries, but there are few better strikers in the world than him imo, and he is without doubt one of the deadliest finishers. He will definitely improve City as he would any side in my view. Clever movement, good footballing brain, good link up play, fantastic finisher and can play right across the front.

Where i may agree with you is that he has had a few injuries recently, and that may have affected him. But that is still pure speculation and until it becomes evident he is not the player he once was, i am more than happy to still consider him one of the very best strikers around.

Is this Villa link just down to TalkShite, or has someone credible reported it?

I can't see Barca selling him when the competition from Real is so strong, nor him wanting to leave after the emotion of his return the other week - but money talks of course.
