City to sign Ter Stegen ahead of Liverpool?

Fantastic news. Hart is a big voice along with kompany in their dressing room, pissing him off won't do anything for their morale at all. Nice start pep

Ter Stegen is a good keeper but apart from with the ball at his feet he's no upgrade worth worrying about at all.

The only area of the game where he is better than Hart is playing out with his feet IMO. He might shade Hart on reaction saves too.

Excellent, the English Media will already have their knives sharpened.

Liverpool?

Jesus, does every fecking player that is German/played in Bundesliga get linked to Liverpool because of Klopp?

Mats is a special player, nevermind keeper. It's a strange situation at the club. Traditionally they've struggled when going into the market to find a keeper and some never manage to adapt. Yet the German has lived up to the lofty expectations & hype when he was first pursued as a direct replacement to Victor. Unzue wanted not just a veteran Primera keeper to pair with a young player from outside the country but someone who wouldn't directly destabilize the player and play competitive understudy - like say Pinto was.

Apparently Bravo has been Unzue's preferred keeper since even when Pep was still coach & the club was scouting him at La Real. So for that, I believe the choice of signing him in the wake of Mats' acquisition was always a perilous one to begin with. Bravo is an excellent goalkeeper but lacks the ball skills of Ter Stegen. It's clear the player is unsettled and neither Lucho nor the club like to be pressured from a player in this manner, even if he's continued to be professional. Something will have to give because I don't see Enrique providing any assurances about the rotation favoring Mats in the near future.

Would be a significant loss, no doubt, if true

I refresh my page after hour off and City potentially have two summer signings wrapped up. The extraordinary world of Twitter that I'm not on.

What happened with us Dutch/Bayern players and LVG....

Really? He's definitely an upgrade on Mignolet but he seems like a massive knobhead.

Don't care. We have the Nivea contract already, so Joe's no dandruff deal would see us looking good all over.

So City are actually going full non-English? He ain't a worldie, but he's a decent keeper.

They'll do a grand job putting a pair of centre backs in front of him who can actually give him a hand. Ter Stegen might be a top goalkeeper long term, but they've bigger problems to suss out before Hart's place should be questioned from an outsiders POV.

Would United go for Hart?

Could happen. No doubt Pep doesn't fancy Hart at all while ter Stegen is the best passing GK in the world by a distance. His long passes in particular are ridiculous, he actually created one-on-ones last season against Bayern in both legs. Absolutely what Pep would want. Unfortunately Bravo has also proven to be an excellent keeper and doesn't deserve benching and even less so just because ter Stegen puts pressure like that in interviews. A bit like the Cech/Courtois situation and also like the Thiago situation who was denied promises about playing time and therefore left.

Liverpool?

Of course, that was very predictable. However, Liverpool could do with a better GK than Mignolet.

Hart is one of City's leaders. He's been good for them, not the greatest with the ball at his feet, which seems like the reason Pep doesn't want him. He'll be a good signing for Liverpool, or even Chelsea if Courtois jumps ship.

So could Dortmund, Tuchel, Zorc, Watzke should put some effort in to bring Ter Stegen back to Germany.

German media reported that Ter Stegen wants to leave Barca. And I would totally understand him: He has won everything there... but of coure more important: This solution of "league" vs. "cup/champions league" is a decision from hell. Terrible for Ter Stegen who would be the clear number one at 95% of the clubs. So why not leave Barca? In my opinion he will be very soon a much better keeper than Hart. So it seems comprehensible that Pep wants him.

I only hope that we have a real Plan B the next time De Gea wants to move to Madrid. (Still would go for Leno.)

Don't have to convince me that we could do better than Bürki - I wrote here on many occasions here that we need a much better GK. I personally wouldn't go after ter Stegen though and am pretty sure that if WZT decide do something on the GK position it won't be ter Stegen.

Who'd you like to sign instead? Steal Leno from Leverkusen? Or Zieler on the cheap at the end of the season after Hannover is relegated? Karius from Mainz?

I'd take Ter Stegen over all of them, if he's willing to commit longterm to Dortmund.

@Balu
First of all I would have tried to sign Horn last summer as the initial plan was and test him on an international level. Same with Karius. Or try to lure Sommer.

I don't think ter Stegen is worth the money that is needed to get him, both transfer fee and salary-wise. If he were available on the cheap and on modest wages, I wouldn't mind but that's unrealistic. I want us to throw all available money to Mkhitaryan and Hummels. Unfortunately Götze will eat a big chunk of our budget which, as you know, I oppose but is reality. Therefore, I doubt that WZT will plan for an expensive GK.

That appears to be the plan, yes. Most sources close to Dortmund expect us to go into the next season with the same personell as this year. I´m not completely sold on Bürki either, but also know how tricky a transition from a small to a big club can be for a GK and Bürki did improve as the sesaon went on.

The main concentration will lie on the contract extensions. Not that a potential Götze deal will change anything, though. We are financially healthy enough to buy him and offer the key players top earner contracts (in our relation), so around the benchmark which was set by the Reus extension. Infact Italian sources reported that Raiola (Mkhitaryan´s agent) told Juventus off as we appearantly improved the initial offer enough to get Mkhitaryan to sign in the next days.

Surely if DDG is going to leave (not certain he will), we should be looking at him?

Hart is significantly better than Ter Stegen. Guardiola is crazy

Would United go for Hart?

If De Gea did leave then I wouldn't be upset going for Hart tbh. He's not the best goalkeeper, but at least we wouldn't have a goalkeeper trying to adjust to the Premier League like we had to do with De Gea when he first joined.

I actually think this story is bullshit myself.

Makes complete sense to me from City's perspective; Ter Stegen is an excellent keeper, Guardiola loves an 'additional' field player as sweeper, Ter Stegen is brilliant with the ball at his feet.
I read a couple of weeks ago that Barcelona want him to continue for another year with keeper rotation, and then they will decide whether Bravo or Ter Stegen will be their number 1. Not sure if there is any truth to it, but I'd rather stay in Barcelona for various reasons then go to City. MATS is still young, he can move on in a year or two as well if the situation hasn't changed.

I wouldn't mind Hart here as replacement for DDG if he was to leave. Wonder who else he could go to if he was to be sold.. most of the top sides here are sorted for a keeper.

This deal is weird. 2 weeks ago if you'd asked most, if not all, man city fans would they swap Hart for Ter Stegen, I bet they'd have said no. Suddenly now, they want TS. I'd keep Hart tbh, because if he does go, big IF, he will stay in the prem IMO and Ter Stegen is not a massive upgrade.

Saying that, I don't think Pep would want the both of them.
