Ciro Immobile

Seems like a great buy by BVB, at last adding some quantity for the striker spot because Schieber's utter tosh. Don't know what Ramos' playstyle is and whether it's him or Immobile that will be a starter for BVB but it seems that Klopp will have to alter the playstyle a little bit.

He suits Dortmund very well, he is not good with his back to goal so Dortmunds counter attack system will get the best out of him. He also has a nice long range shot from outside the box. Good striker and was actually sad to see Juve sell his half of the contract that we owned.

On the other hand a common sight in Borussia Dortmund's build-up was the long-hooked 40-50 meter pass from Hummels to Lewandowski who would control and defend the ball with his back towards goal. This playing approach won't work with Immobile at all.

I guess Adrian Ramos would be the better suited option for those kind of games, seeing that he offers the more traditional CF play.

Very sharp and attentive. He and Insigne have looked pretty dangerous.

Dortmund should go after Benteke. He hasnt had a great season and might be cheaper than if they went for him last summer. It will help to have an option with Immobile. Lewandoski is a huge loss.

Just came off as all the Italian regulars just poured on the pitch at once.
I don't even think the commentators know who came off.

Dortmund done well to get the deal wrapped up before the WC. A good tournament and his value would have rocketed.

Really nice signing by Dortmund. Im looking forward to seeing him in action next season with that armenian guy and that other french guy. (cant remember how to spell their names :p)

They also bought Adrian Ramos from Hertha Berlin and Ji from Augsburg. They are set for strikers.

I don't think he is gonna make it. I think Ramos will be their first choice CF and Ciro will be a squad player, sub.

Not for the money they paid.

Adrian Ramos is a more traditional CF and closer in stile and physique to Robert Lewandowski, so it doesn't seem too far fetched to assume that he will be ahead of Immobile. At least at the beginning of the season. His transfer fee of € 10M is also a considerable amount of money for Dortmund.

The Italian on the other hand has to adapt to a new league as well as a complex and physically demanding stile of play and perhaps more importantly, Klopp's BVB needs to adapt the entire playing stile with Immobile leading the attack. No more long balls from Hummels to Lewandowski who would win the aerial battle, defend possession and wait for his teammates to advance on the field. Those days are over with Immobile upfront. Developing a working game-plan will certainly take some time.

Three goals and two assists for Italy's win against Fluminense. Pretty impressive for the lad.

So we won´t be able to play pressing based fast paced and extremely direct transtioning football anymore with Immobile? Because that is our play style and this won´t change as long as Klopp is in charge. What you described is just one of several build up variants of Klopp´s football, one that was developed in 2011/2012 when the void of Sahin´s departure could not be filled at first and Hummels stepped up as primary build up player. Lewandowski does not define our football, just as Sahin, Götze, Kagawa or Gündogan didn´t. Our system is build on collective pressing, movement and passing and not single players, which is also why we could compensate the departures/injuries of the named players.

Lewandowski´s departure will result in some partial changes in our play, just as it happened with the other missing key players, but the core system will remain the same. We might return more towards the type of football we played in 2010/2011 (Klopp´s first title winning season), when our main striker was not the struggling Lewandowski, but Lucas Barrios, who was a pretty similar striker to Immobile.

As far as I´m concerned Klopp & Co. covered pretty much all bases with Ramos and Immobile as replacements. You have one target man, who likes to drop deep and contribute a lot to the overall play and is a beast in the air (which fits the higher focus on set pieces in the last two years), and a classic poacher with an enourmous work rate. Immobile could really turn out to be our best finisher since Marcio Amoroso.

Both won´t have the individual class of Lewandowski, but will make us more variable overall.

No.

In fact, we will change our style and formation anyway and may even play sometimes with two strikers. Klopp had that in mind already last season (with Lewandowski and Aubameyang) but the injury crisis set different priorities than testing something new in attack (exception: the match against Bayern in Munich).

The reason why we shouldn't has been described by other posters but thought you may be interested that we went - unsuccessfully - for Benteke in summer 2013.

Seen him in all three games at WC. And he have not impressed me one bit. I just don't see the what he offers, he is not that pacy, his technique and finishing is maybe above average but slightly. He is not creative, neither he is physically strong like Toni was. A kind of player that can play well enough for a middle table team or maybe Europa League hopeful. But what can he offer to a top team national or club i just don't see.

The nice part about it: It suffices that Klopp sees something in him after Ciro has been scouted by BVB for three years.

Any manager, no matter how good he is, will always have a hit&miss record in the transfer market. It was so even for Fergie, Anci. Lets see how he does in BVB.

Pretty hard when he's only appeared in 2, and started 1.

His hold-up is very much a let down. To me, it seemed like Balotelli would drop slightly deeper and hold the ball up and then Immobile would look to make quick runs between the centre backs but largely failed in that respect. In all fairness, he wasn't getting the quick release from his teammates enough when he did make those runs, but when he did, he was often thwarted by recovery tackles from Gimenez or Godin. Shows his lack of blistering pace I suppose.

His off the ball movement and finishing are pretty good. Besides that he's pretty average in everything. I think Lane is being too harsh, though.

He's only played in 2.

He is unable to stop a ball, but he can improve under Klopp.

Scoring many goals in seria a doesn't mean much

He's shit TBF. I don't follow him but serie a top goal scorer? unbelievable, let's see what Klopp can do.

He's looked quite mundane in the world cup so far, but so have many other good players, and he's being judged for two games. Too early to tell.

If his hold up play is not up to the mark, then surely we'll see a change in the way Dortmund play. Lewandowski was essential to them partly because of his hold up play and it seems strange that they'll go after a guy who is quite weak in that part of his game.

His all-round game leaves a-lot to be desired but he seems like a good finisher and his movement is generally good.

He's young and lacks experience. He needs good support from the midfield to excel. I can see him scoring at least 15-20 goals with BVB. Judging him from 2 games in the World Cup where his teammates have been shit as well is harsh.

You can't really judge a player by the WC performances. Many good players look shit and shit players look good...
