Christian Eriksen | Signs for Manchester United

I m far from a high bar thinker on Bruno (I think he’ll be gone or at best a bench warmer before we become consistently strong), but you must know that any player who doesn’t play for Manchester United is a better player than any player who does play for Manchester United.

Oh yeah I get that. The Muppets on here said Donny would be our best midfielder Im sure and Sancho could be POTY. The revisionism of the fanbase is really quite something.

Irony is the the last player to come here and immediately go up a level is none other than Bruno Fernandes.

He's a good player, but we have Bruno and Van de Beek for the position and I much rather see any extra minutes given to Hannibal instead.

I get the sentiment but we're in a results based business. If we're facing a must-win season-defining run of games and Bruno's injured, who would you feel most comfortable sending out there in his place - Eriksen or Mejbri?

I'd be happy with Van de Beek covering that injury in a Ten Hag system.

My issue with a signing like Eriksen, is that he'll hoover up all the minutes at the end of games that could be spent on Hannibal's development.

In 2 years time, Eriksen has gone and we're left with a player who was potentially as good or better than prime Eriksen, but who has had his progress stifled by a lack of minutes or a dodgy and unnecessary loan.

Bruno literally never gets injured though. Certain players are just physical machines and never get any major injuries and Bruno is one of those. So considering how few games Bruno is likely to miss, VDB or Hannibal or Garner would be fine to come in for a couple of games. You can't just act like Bruno is as likely to get injured as Shaw for example. With Shaw you can pretty much guarantee he will miss a lot of next season because his injury history suggests that and Telles is nowhere near good enough to be starting games imo yet I don't see us making any moves to sign players there (or at rb where we have even fewer options).

I believe Ten Hag is under pressure to deliver result right away and the minimum expectation is to at least challenge for 4th spot just like Conte this season. Develop young talent probably is his last priority in his first season. He needs players who can come in do the job for his system right away. He doesn't have a big name and if he doesn't get result for his first 10 games he may lose the dressing room, the crowd or the media. He is under huge pressure.

Mejbri has to start playing soon, if not he would be looking to move. He is 19, so no longer that young anymore and can be relied on for the very little minutes Mata got over the past couple of seasons. I don't see any reason to bring in Eriksen to stunt the boy's growth any further.

Remember a clamouring to sign him when he left Spurs and people comparing him to Scholes which was crazy in my mind.

He is an intelligent player, good technically, good passing....but all the talk not so long ago was for us not to sign older players and now people are clamouring to sign an older player who there can always be health concerns about, has to be said.

I like him but didnt want us to sign him when he went to Inter. Now its a case of do we trust Bruno to play consistently over a season and stay fit. We he doesnt get injured but there has been times he should have been rested. He is capable of the biggest game chagnign moments but also capable of the most consistency....if by consistency we mean givign the ball away....he needs competition for me, but is that a priority this summer?

Only to a degree. I would only consider signing Erkicksen if VDB is sold,,,,,and still wouldnt sign him. We have Hannibal who should get chances behinf Fernandes and in other positions within the squad, we have Fred who I hav enever been a fan of but has looked good at times at the end of last season playign further forward, he can play there and there are other options.

Free or not, in a summer when we could do with 6 or 7 positions filled which wont happen, see no reason to sign Eriksen. And thats hot disputing he wasnt a good player at SPurs, average at Inter and good at Brentford....he still isnt as big a player as he gets lauded though for me....but that isnt why I wouldnt sign him, its a simple case of imminent priorities and long term development, he fits neither

at worst he offers cover to Bruno, at best he replaces Bruno and gives him the kick up the arse he has needed for a while now. Having 2 players fighting over one spot is no bad thing. Erikson is almost like a more polished version of Bruno, in that he has the killer passing as well but also the know how when to play them and when to keep it simple. That coupled with working under ETH could be good for Bruno. He's coming up to 28 now, we need to see improvement from him. He has regressed since he got here, overplayed, bad managers, all of the above, but there's really not been repercussions for his poor form especially in games against top opposition. Another quality player to challenge him, no bad thing in my books.

It's would seem with the Caf that Bruno is rubbish and the Beek is still a serious player who should be getting games

I see Bruno is shit now? Gotta love the caf
I think we can all agree that Bruno had a bad season but the guy still ended up with the most assists in the CL despite being knocked out in the last 16. He also finished top of most chances created in the PL too. He can be frustrating at times but good luck finding a player that can put up those numbers and creates chances out of nothing like he does. I'm looking forward to watching him under ten Hag as I feel like ten Hag will improve his game massively. He will have a more defined role in the side.

Two extrem sides once again. One that doesn't acknowledge that Bruno can be a very good player and one that can't accept that he's been largely shit last season and Eriksen better.

Like I said needs to make better decisions

And Eriksen has never put up the numbers Bruno has. Never been, won't ever be
Christian Eriksen: 541 club appearances, 115 non-penalty goals, 162 assists. 0.51/game

Bruno Fernandes: 427 club appearances, 97 non-penalty goals, 109 assists. 0.48/game

Yes. That's their numbers on transfermarkt. Surprising, right?

You can bring up some pedantic statistics for all I care, but statistics is the only thing going for Bruno Fernandes as a footballer anyway. Eriksen has been recognized as a fantastic talent since his early years, and he puts up numbers more than good enough for an attacking midfielder while being a fantastic midfield playmaker.

Bruno the midfielder on the other hand is one hell of a myth with statistics more than good enough as well, but obviously padded up by penalties with an all-around game that leaves a lot to be desired. This would have been a massive upgrade in the last ten years, and would still be a massive upgrade today and in the next five years.

Before the 'it is not easy to score penalties' line gets whipped out as well, Eriksen has 85% conversion rate, Bruno 89%.

I don't think it would matter which of Eriksen or Bruno plays as the AM. Having both competing for the role would obviously be good.

The question is what we do with all three of Bruno, Eriksen and VDB competing for the AM role, because that's too many. If two of those three are on the bench every game, the squad isn't balanced right.

Does VDB get sold? No stories suggesting that so far. Does one of them get played in a position other than AM? If so, which one and where? Those are the questions this signing would raise for me if it happened, not whether Bruno or Eriksen is the better footballer.

Why on Earth would we move Bruno to the right to accommodate a guy who’s spent a large part of his career, playing on, you know, the right.
He wasn't doing well at Tottenham that last season playing on the right, in fact everyone here said he was past it. He's now playing really well in midfield and caught our attention. Why would we sign him to play him where he clearly doesn't have the legs anymore?

Meh, in the Premier League, where it counts, Bruno makes more passes per game than him,
more successful crosses than him, creates more big chances than Eriksen per game, has more assists per game, has more non penalty goals per game. Has a higher shooting accuracy, more accurate long balls per game, completes more through balls per game, in fact, it’s hard to find a stat where Premier League Eriksen > Premier League Bruno.

Seeing the amount of people acting like Bruno is rubbish and shouldn't even be a starter is truly nauseating. These "fans" are everywhere now. The guy carried us for 2 full seasons. We would have been right down where we are now during those seasons without all of his goals and assists. He goes through some bad form, the rest of the team becomes shit, and now he's apparently useless. Sometimes I think we deserve the shit we've been plunged into frankly.

You’re better than this. Get some rest.

So why couldn’t he save us last year. Still waiting for him and his stats to give us some trophies.

I endorse this post

I do not believe Eriksen will come but he would be perfect.
Eriksen is a more complete player that Bruno.
He is stronger in defending, covers a lot of space, always playable, he is better at fee kicks, he is an absolute team player but also a leader and the perfect "model" for the younger players on how to act on and off the pitch.
If Ten Hag want to play a system with one DM and 2 box to box in front Eriksen will be able to do this. At this time Bruno has not shown this ability.
If Ten Hag want to play 2 DM with a"10" in front of them I could see both of them succeed, Eriksen against the top teams and Bruno against the rest.
Therefore if we can get Eriksen on a free transfer it would be a no brainer.

We could have sold Bruno for decent money instead of giving him hefty new contract (70m +), replace him with free agent Eriksen, sign a DM+FDJ on top of that, and all of a sudden our midfield would look completely different.
I think Eriksen is more disciplined and much better fit in ETH system than Bruno and he is free on top of that...
You'd replace a player in their prime with a player who is soon enough going to be past it why?

Surprised people are really taking DVB into the equation. He could hardly get a game at Everton and looked hugely underwhelming when he played. Why would he suddenly become United quality just because ETH came in? All evidence suggests he's not good enough.
Far be it from me to be a defender of him but he was injured for a good amount of his time at Everton. He was playing for them before he got injured. Then he came back with like a couple games left in the season.
