To the level United are willing to pay? No chance. You know this, you just don't want to admit it. Wanting your current club with whom you have a very good relationship with to get a fee and the chance to replace you this window isn't emotional guff either. We know what we're getting with Eriksen: a top-class PL proven central attacking midfielder, with one of the best dead-ball deliveries in the league. Christian meet Harry, ball meet net. A lot.
Who knows how the other two would have turned out? Given our recent horrible strike rate with new signings, there's every reason to believe they would have failed.
Real, Barca and Juve don't want him, or they'd have signed him this window.
Real's holding out for Pogba
Juve splurged too much for their CL already and are trying to get rid of Dybala now. Doesn't really make sense to buy Eriksen in that case.
Barca are a bit more iffy, but haven't really seen any concrete links to them either.
Yeah all of that is so fabulous and sounds like a great propaganda poster but it's not going to help you land Eriksen, just like it didn't help you land Dybala.
the number of teams that can outbid United are low. Madrid, PSG, Barca. Madrid the only one who has shown any real interest. even assuming Madrid is his #1 choice, a lot can happen in a year, he can get injured, Madrid may move onto the next target, his form may drop off. meanwhile if he doesn't mind England he can join a historic club now and start earning big money. i agree it's likely he stays and takes the gamble next summer, but i also wouldn't be shocked if he moved to us in the next couple of days. it makes a lot of sense.
I don't know, you brought it up. Also I'm pretty sure we've won more since Fergie left than you've won in Eriksen's lifetime so there's that.
They want to wait for him to wait out his contract .. why offer 50-60 mill when potentially they can get him for a free next summer?

That would be super relevant and interesting if Eriksen was choosing between Manchester United and Spurs.
He's not, he's choosing between Manchester United and his pick of any elite club + a massive signing on fee because he'll join on a free.
I don't think that's fair, United are a massive club steeped in history I can see why any player in the world would be interested. What I can also see is a very shaky time in their history, 4 managers in quick succession and a long way off winning the league. Eriksen wants, in his own words to go somewhere to win top trophies, I cant see United winning the league or CL in the next 2-3 years, by that time Eriksen will be pushing 30. There is no disrespect here, I acknowledge United as one of the biggest clubs in the world, just right now there is no guarantee Eriksen will get what he wants there in the short term. I wish United fans would stop thinking opposition fans are here to have a pop were not, most find their way here simply because of your sheer size, and for me the respect I had for United Under Fergie.

It's been a running theme from the oppos in this thread, United aren't worth shit these days and no one wants to play for us.

Liverpool were in a far worse situation than us a few years back, but they attracted the players and a manager to put them in their current position because they're a big club. It happens.

Show me all these elite clubs that are desperate to sign him and you might have a point, I can't say I've heard of any bids. One of your examples earlier was Madrid, who seem to be in absolute turmoil at the moment.
It's a gamble if he comes to us, but it's also a gamble if he runs his contract down and doesn't have offers from the suitors he wants.

United start from base in the PL next season like everyone else. Defence is absolutely fine now for the first time since we had Ferdinand. De Gea in the sticks. Attack needs maybe one star. The midfield is the stand out weak area. Eriksen knows if he joins Pogba in that CM, United have a shot.
The problem being we wont be competing against Spurs for his signature on the dotted line and how much they can pay in wages. We will be competing against the likes of RM, Barcelona, Juventus, who can offer just as much money as we can, if not more. And a much higher likelihood of trophies.
This I feel is the only way we are getting him over the likes of Barca, RM etc.
Classy player, would be a great addition, unfortunately looking at it realistically why would he come here over the likes of RM or Barca? He could ride out another year at Spurs and then get his dream move. Earn his boatloads of cash and probably win a trophy or two.

Pogba is the only one from that list who was a player in his prime who likely had other elite clubs after him. Although IIRC at the time Madrid were interested but not prepared to pay the fee.
You pulled out of the Dybala deal because the player wasn't particularly interested in joining United and so made huge demands in terms of wages/signing on fee etc. That's what nearly all the reports are saying.
Reports said Dybala agreed wages but the agent fee was too high and that's why we pulled out of the deal. This was reported by Pedulla.

Mate, word of advice to you Spurs fan on here, don't get too cocky. You guys have a top manager, talented squad and great stadium. You've done extremely well in the past few years to turn Spurs into a top elite side but fact still remains you haven't won anything. You don't look like winning this season either as your team hasn't exactly improved exponentially. You'll be up there but as a United fan, I can tell you things can change easily and you guys could find yourselves fighting for 6th spot. United are still a huge, attractive club. I’m sure De Gea would be a Madrid player now if he wanted it badly enough. Pogba would have been, a lot earlier. Maguire could probably have joined Man City this Summer if had pushed it.

Coutinho to Spurs, Eriksen to United?
Even on a free there is no guarantee those clubs will want him. Zidane does not play with a number 10 so it is unclear where he would fit with Real, Barca have an excessive amount of attacking options and Juventus have enough international midfielders to field a first 11 entirely made up of people who play Eriksen's position. In addition to this he takes the same gamble any player running his contract down does, if he shreds his knee on a dodgy pitch in November he could go unsigned in the summer and end up having to try and get back into top flight football on a prove it deal that pays him peanuts.
Your whole premise is based on what will happen in 12 months time but there is no way to predict the future. If he has a solid offer from United with a fat signing bonus and it doubles his wages of course he is going to be tempted. If Pogba sticks around which looks likely then surely he would look at the improvements in our back 4 and the young attacking options we have and back himself to contribute to getting united back into the CL next season and contending for the PL title sooner rather than later.
Just a quick one on this because I am not disagreeing otherwise - I don't think Dybala would happily come to any English club purely because he doesn't fancy it over here.
