Chevrolet Logo Discussion (Manchester United Kits 2015/16)

i was going to say the kit probably took 30 minutes to put together, but then i see they added the skirt at the bottom and added flaps on the sleeves so that probably added another hour.

i'm happy all of you like it though, maybe i'll like it more when the players are in them.

It's impossible to please everyone, no doubt. Personally, I think it's a brilliant kit. It's simple and classy, with a slight retro feel to it. It's what the majority of fans seem to have been clamouring for. For the first kit under the new Adidas deal, it's a very good choice.

How hasn't it? Adidas themselves have given the date as 1st August...

Edit: this is also their header on Twitter:
1500x500

It has been pretty much guaranteed that it would be released on 1 August - i.e. as soon as the Nike deal expired on 31 July.

I thought i'd missed something and there was a pre-leak of the shirt via official channels rather than just a pic / gif of the trident.

That vine of the trident is off Adidas' official vine account, and that pic is off their official Twitter account. Up until now I haven't seen anything official from them about the release date, I just knew that the Nike deal ran out on the 31st.

With the horizontal stripes instead of vertical. 83 is my favourite kit ever.

Yeah, although it almost looks as if they mixed the 82 kit with the 83 one and came up with this. The first kit I bought was the 83 one. I had an away white one without the sponsor's logo and a home one with Sharp Electronics plastered on it. But yeah it brings back fond memories.

For the pros. The replica kits are normal. Some players were special tight kits, like Robben or Valbuena.
That's a pity :( Personally don't like my football kits to be loose. That's why I usually buy training kits more often than our actual football kits.

I'm starting to think it won't be for sale on the 1st. There's been absolutely nothing from Adidas themselves, and assuming United can't say anything due to their contract with Nike, you'd think Adidas would give a few details.

There's no where to pre-order the top too, but surely it'll be released by the 8th when we play Spurs. I'm thinking they'll have a few days to market the new gear and get a load of pre-orders in after the 1st August.

Could be entirely wrong, though, as one would think the hype around it already is enough and no official pre-release adverts etc. would really be needed to sell tonnes of shirts on day 1.

United can't give details because they have to honour the contract with Nike as exclusive kit and equipment suppliers all the way up to the end of the deal on 31st July. This deal also prevents adidas from giving details. That's the reason we've heard nothing official from them barring an abstract image of a trident today.

I know, I said that right before the bit you put in bold? Adidas won't have the same contractual obligations as United, but obviously they can't put out images of the kit. That's why they're allowed to release that vine and a few slogans like they did today.

They are only the exclusive kit supplier to United from 1st August. Nike are the exclusive kit supplier until 31st July.

You understand the meaning of the word exclusive, right? That's what Nike spent millions of pounds on and what prevents Adidas from so much as mentioning their deal. Notice the trident image had no words mentioning Manchester, United or anything like that? It was as much as they could get away with.

That's exactly my point (if we're putting things in bold). United haven't said a single thing about the Adidas deal, besides when it was announced. Adidas have. They tweeted welcoming Schweini to United:

And they tweeted today with the trident, and a picture of the Adidas badge right next to the United badge.

My original post was questioning when the kit will actually be available to buy, which is now irrelevant due to today's confirmation of the release date. I was surprised Adidas hadn't confirmed this earlier, or put out a couple more teasers. It obviously does have something to do with Nike, but it's clear they're not under the same rules that United are with them.

It's perfectly clear that they are. Show me where Adidas have specifically put their logo and Manchester United's name and/or crest together.

United's deal with Nike prevents any other equipment supplier specifically associating themselves with the club for the entire duration of their contract. That's how deals like this work.

You're right it's not next to the badge - just the trident again. It's clear they're associating themselves with United but probably not enough to breach the Nike contract. However, Adidas have still clearly linked themselves with United, such as with the Schweini tweet where they said 'we are red'. United haven't said a thing. Unless you've seen the terminology they're allowed to get away with then I'm not sure whether I agree with you when you say they're under the exact same rules.

Anyway, it's such a trivial argument it's not worth carrying on. We're kind of clogging up the thread with our pointless disagreement :)

Saying 'We are red' and making a picture of a trident do not violate any exclusivity deals because they could never be proven to be doing so. They are vague images and sentiments, which obviously mean something to us, but are staying well on the side of the law.

Don't forget Schweinsteiger is an adidas-sponsored player. You didn't see them welcoming Morgan Schneiderlin or Matteo Darmian anywhere, did you?

And of course they've got strong links with Bayern too so easy enough to pass it off as "He is red (United). We are red (Bayern). Schweinsteiger is England bound"

That was the whole point of the tweet, yes. Saying 'we are red, he is red' when he's just moved to United is clearly a reference to United, but I agree that it's vague enough to pass.

Has anyone been to the shop? Is it shut to refurb yet or are Nike milking it to the last minute?

Saw a guy after the game last night wearing the new shirt. He claimed he works for Adidas. The shirt looks very nice in person- I think most fans will end up loving it.
