Chelsea vs. Manchester United

According to the lad on RI who travels with the club (he's not been wrong before) - Vidic didn't travel with the team.

Apparently very occasionally players will make their own way there in special circumstances, but seems as though he could be out too :(

Christ could we be anymore injury hit, this is a huge game, occasionally teams get themselves so fired up it matters not who plays but who wants it most. Jones has travelled so we can cover Vidic and with Fletcher playing again we should be solid enough, Wellbeck has been in fine form so we will have chances, we could even go with Jones in front of defence should we need to close it out.
Hopefully we remember this for the football and fat Phil keeps himself out of the limelight, sadly games at SB are often remembered for refereeing rather than great football.
Has Mourinho kept himself uncharacteristically quiet or I have missed his usual dogshit ?

Vidic out as well? For gods sake. No luck at all.

I'd like to see how many games this season we've been able to play our six most important players together.

Rooney, RvP, Carrick, de Gea, Rafael, Vidic.

Had a look and only once all season. The 2-1 win away to Sunderland.

Once all season. Ridiculous.

If Smalling and Evans are fit then loosing Vidic isn't such a big deal, well not as big as it once was. He's hardly got the best record against Torres and also players like Hazard/Oscar who will run at him with the ball are not his strong point. Set pieces will be that bit harder to defend though.

First 'big game' for Januzaj, how will he do?
I think he might just be man marked. Will be great to see how he manages.

Vidic out is a blow but he'd have been up against Torres. I'm not too bothered about his absence to be honest.

Vidic's had Torres in his pocket every time, bar one, maybe two occasions.

I think we might shock a few people today, everyone thinks it is a forgone conclusion that Chelsea will win. If we can be solid in midfield and not let the trio of Hazard, Oscar/Mata and Willian get in behind the lines then we should cause them some trouble on the counter. I know we have numerous players out but I'm looking forward to the game later and think we can get something out of it.

I fecking hate that myth about Torres terrorising Vidic every time they face off. It's complete and utter garbage.

Even in that 1-4 game (the game in which the myth perpetuated from), Vidic made one uncharacteristic error for Torres' goal, was caught square-on on one occasion and Torres nutmegged him, and then he made a clumsy tackle on Torres in the second half which resulted in his second booking. That's only three instances in 90 minutes where he looked vulnerable but revisionists only see what they want to see.

(I know Vidic was red-carded in three consecutive games against Liverpool but that wasn't a case of being overrun by Torres or anyone else. Vida is that type of defender when every challenge is full-blooded. 9/10 he wins the ball but it looks nasty or clumsy when he doesn't. In the next game at Anfield when he was red-carded - I think it was the day we were beaten 2-0 when Reina ran the length of the pitch to celebrate with N'Gog, the small-time bastard - Vidic dominated Torres, both aerially and on the floor. It was Ferdinand's meek challenge which led Torres in to score the opener, and van der Sar should have done better for that, too.)

Jones in midfield (probably dealing with Hazard) is a must. I'd be pleasantly surprised if we got a result.

You know, it's almost liberating to go into a match expecting nothing at all. I'd be genuinely pleased with a point, and a loss would just be another three points lost, except this time we lost it against a legitimately good side.

Whoever plays in the #10 role for Chelsea today will be the key to their performance. I guess it will be Oscar (my bet for first scorer). With he amount of injuries we have and Smalling at RB, I fear for us today. Fletcher will need to run his socks off.
Let's get this game out of the way, keep it a respectable score and move on. 6 points behind LFC and with plenty of games left. Not a problem.

It's amazing how the entire balance goes out the window when we miss a full back.

So we're looking at something like this maybe?

----------De Gea------------
Smalling--Rio----Evans---Evra
-------Carrick---Jones-------
Valencia----Kagawa----Januzaj
------------Welbeck----------

I'd rather see Jones in midfield than Cleverley but we could even see Giggs there. Bet we see Jones at cb and Carrick-Cleverley/Giggs cm.

Rio's also out injured

I'm off to say a decade of the rosary.

Ahhh, ffs. Maybe Valencia at right back and Young right wing then? Not sure.

EDIT: Or Januzaj right, Welbeck and Kagawa for number 10 and left wing with Hernandez up front, with his record against the chavs. Lot of versatility there.

On the backfoot because of injuries before the game even starts, lovely. Time for OG to step up.
