Chelsea under Conte | Let's sign the next Hazard, literally.

Beyond today's match and performance. It does seem like Chelsea is such a tight-rope situation for any manager.

Poor Conte.

Wanted Lukaku as his number one, didn't get him. Wanted to keep Matic, didn't keep him. Both bossing it in Manchester.

He'll be off soon.

Cesar Azpilicueta hints at divisions in Chelsea dressing room as he bemoans transfer dealings: 'The players we lost, and the players we signed in, they're not the same'

So it begins.

Bakayoko isn't as good as Matic. If they were to sign a Monaco midfielder I can't believe they went for him over Fabinho.

Costa is better than Morata as well.

Sometimes I really think we are overrating the competence of executives at football clubs. I bet there are people on the Caf who are smarter than them. How can you be the Chelsea board and think "you know what, let's sell Chalobah/Matic and take a very long time to bring in replacements so that we have a weak bench against Burnley".

All that's needed now is for a 3 love spanking vs spurs and conte to go ape shit crazy at a medic

Or we'll feck Spurs and suddenly the narrative will completely change yet again. This place loves its kneejerk reactions. I'm still laughing over Morata apparently being shit and a waste of money after 25m of pre-season.

Aren't you without Cahill, Fabregas, Hazard and Pedro for the match? If you feck Spurs then Spurs really are shite. Still, it might be a good time to play them as they have a shit Wembley record.

I don't think people think he's shit, just Lukaku was better business.

It was fueled by some of the resident Chelsea lot trying to paint a picture that wasn't accurate about the Lukaku/Morata deals.

I doubt anyone said that. He looked good, it was your starting XI that looked awful.

We bought Morata, you bought Lukaku, of course you're going to think its better business. The logical answer would be 'Who the feck knows until at least half way through the season' though realistically.

You clearly weren't reading the Morata posts at that time then. It was certainly an 'opinion' shared by a number of people.

No I meant the way some Chelsea fans tried to pretend you didn't want Lukaku and Morata was better..

When we all know you lost out on him to United. That's what fired the banter up I believe.

You mean the exact same way some United fans tried to pretend you didn't want Morata and that Lukaku was better after you suddenly signed him?

Fans will be fans at the end of the day. They're both cracking strikers, but this being football people always want their own players to be the better ones.

Not really. The facts were plain to see. JM called Lukaku a long time ago. It seems the Morata deal was secondary but we didn't like the price.

Chelsea were desperate to land Lukaku hence the last minute panic and matching United's bid. Conte wanted the player hence contacting him personally.

It's no big deal. But the inability for some Chelsea fans to comprehend that they lost out as the player picked United over them is naive.

The Lukaku/Morata transfers summed up football fans to a tee! It was quite funny to watch both sets of fans change their opinions on both players (myself included, I must admit).

No, I wasn't, not bothered with keeping up with what United fans think of Morata. All I can tell you is during your game everyone posting was quite complimentary of him.

So, thoughts on Matic's performance? I'm pleasantly surprised, hadn't seen him in this form for a couple of years now, or did I watch too little Chelsea last season?

You didn't just do exactly what I was talking about. No siree..

Didn't watch the United game, so I can't comment. He's an excellent player when he's in the mood though. He was great for the first half of last season.

Their forums are a joke. People slagging off Roman. Without him they'd be a tinpot club.

Not sure if it's been mentioned before, I read yesterday that everyone at Chelsea is aware that this is Conte's last season there.

Where did you read this? And does this mean players and staff?

I wonder what could have caused things to go so sour seemingly overnight?

Chelsea endured a nightmare start to the season with a 3-2 defeat to Burnley at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Conte went into the campaign on the back of a tense summer despite landing Alvaro Morata, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Antonio Rudiger and Willy Caballero for around £130million.

But reports suggest Conte and the Chelsea board are now divided over their transfer targets for the next two weeks of the window.

And New York Times journalist Smith has explained why Conte’s second season could be his last with the Blues.

“There seems to be at Chelsea a kind of understanding that this will be Conte’s last season,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“[Jose] Mourinho is pretending he wants to be at Manchester United for 10 years and Pep Guardiola is pretending he wants to be at Manchester City for 10 years.

“[But] managers last 3-5 years. Pep Guardiola will not be at Manchester City for 10 years.

“Conte has always made clear this is a short-term thing.

“I’m not 100 per cent certain his wife and daughter have moved to London yet.

“There has always been this whisper that he feels two or three years will be enough and there were suggestions at the start of the season with his deal for improved money but no greater length to his contract.

“I think there’s a feeling at Chelsea this might be his final season which is a very odd thing to say about a coach who won the league in his first year.

“And it may not prove to be true, he might discover a part of London he didn’t realise existed and feel really at home with it.

“He might want to stay but where Conte’s head is at is quite interesting because it’s not long-long term committed and that kind of changes the colour of everything at Chelsea.”

It's on the Express website. I saw it on Twitter, yesterday. I guess it's validity comes into question given the source.

I don't get players mouthing off at every opportunity these days, why would Azpi say that now?
Was just thinking this... how is this suppose to help their situation? Plus, the new guys must be happy hearing him imply they're not good enough..

So all presumptions? This guy knows nothing, all it is, is hot air and guesswork like a lot of the media. There's people closer to the club than this guy, legit journos, who say the board and conte are fine, and that roman and conte have a very good relationship. He may be a little peeved we sold Matic before bringing somebody else in, but ultimately Bakayoko is Matic's replacement and him being injured is just unfortunate. It looks like he isn't too far from being healthy, so he MIGHT even feature vs Spurs. Conte has always been a bit of a moaner about transfers ever since Juve days, but I don't believe things are anywhere close to how the media make out.

Our fans expect us to have brought in all our the signings now, but that's just not always possible. I think we've made some very good signings and at the moment I can sit here and say our summer business has been really good, but there's still over 2 weeks yet to go of the transfer window so I'm confident we will bring in some more decent signings.
