Chelsea banned from signing players

Apparently due to irregularities involving the signing of youth player Gael Kakuta from Lens.

Cheating bastards.

I bet their fans are gutted they didn't do more in the market this season now!

Wow, that's pretty crazy. They'll appeal it like mad though you guys, I wouldn't have my cock out yet if I were you.

They'll appeal and it'll be sorted out. It's probably illegal to stop a private company hiring new people.

....Oh....Crap....

Deco will look even more like Ronnie Corbett if he isn't allowed to retire before then.

Kakuta: DRC decision reached
On the occasion of its last meeting held on 27 August 2009, the Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC) was called to pass a decision in a contractual dispute opposing the French club Lens to the French player Gael Kakuta and the English club Chelsea.

The French club had lodged a claim with FIFA seeking compensation for breach of contract from the player and requesting also sporting sanctions to be imposed on the player and the English club for breach of contract and inducement to breach of contract respectively.

The DRC found that the player had indeed breached a contract signed with the French club. Equally, the DRC deemed it to be established that the English club induced the player to such a breach.

As a result the player was condemned to pay compensation in the amount of EUR 780,000, for which the club, Chelsea, are jointly and severally liable, and sporting sanctions were imposed on both the player and Chelsea in accordance with art. 17 par. 3 and 4 of the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players.

A restriction of four months on his eligibility to play in official matches has been imposed on Kakuta. Chelsea are banned from registering any new players, either nationally or internationally, for the two next entire and consecutive registration periods following the notification of the present decision. Furthermore, the club, Chelsea, have to pay Lens training compensation in the amount of EUR 130,000.

 Just after having a summer with very little activity, and all. They were probbly holding their cash back with the view to spend big next summer.

But yes, I agree with some of the above posts. They will appeal and have the length of time massively reduced.

I hope the ban sticks but in fairness if Real Madrid were involved then a blind eye would have been turned by FIFA!

Other football clubs have had transfer embargo's put on them.

Have they had the money to hire a bazillion lawyers and take this to the Court of Arbitration of Sport, or the European Court though?

Reactions from Chelsea forums?

If you are going to lay it all on the line to get a player, you damn well better make sure it's a superstar like.........Kakuta.

erm.....probably not. By the time this gets through appeals they'll probably just not be able to buy in January or something.

Two transfer windows for enticing a young player to breach his contract. Seems a harsh punishment and one that might be reduced on appeal. I also have to ask the question - would Real Madrid, AC Milan, Barcelona etc have been punished in the same way?

I for one welcome the recent FIFA/UEFA clampdown on those nasty London clubs. For too long they have cheated and bullied their way to the top. Hurrah I say!

Wow, but i don't think some of you have seen the bigger picture here.

What will the papers do? They won't be able to link anyone to them until January 2011, that's half their stories over the summer.
