Chelsea 2022/2023 | THIS IS LAST YEARS THREAD YOU NUMPTIES

Every match in the EPL is tough and it is hard to win away regardless of the opposition. So I'm happy that Arsenal have beaten Chelski at Stamford Bridge. That said, both Leeds and Southamption were harder to play against. Chelski definitely look the worst of the so called top 6/7. I have a lot of respect for Potter, so it will be interesting to see if he can turn it around.
Potter doesn’t need to turn it around. The structure they are building to co strict a cohesive, more competitive and consistent team need to help him.

A team owned by Stan Kroenke, one of the great villains in the destruction of small business and the middle class worldwide has very little room on a high horse for whatever it’s worth.

Arsenal had a good project though. And it took, what, 3 years?

Similarly I don’t think we will REALLY see the team they envision giving to Potter for at least two to three years. We were due for a massive turnover due to aging and injuries anyway, even without the bad decisions.

That said, we are about to enter a massive break period, with a window mixed in. If Chelsea add a young, quality midfielder to take pressure off of Mount and Jorgihno and others from dropping deep to shield the defense, and we get back players like James, Chilwell, Fofana, Kovacic to full health, etc, we could still easily compete for top 4 while “rebuilding”

Nothing can really be done to avoid hamstring injuries, they just happen. Can do the best warm ups, warm downs and be fittest in the league and it'll still pull/tear. His main issue when back to fitness is hoping it doesn't continuously happen to the same hammy, it'll be a constant problem otherwise.
It doesn’t necessarily have to be the same hamstring to be indicative of being particularly prone to muscle and muscle attachment injuries. Or better to say “non contact” injuries If Ben continues to rack up non-contact injuries it’ll be a problem. He’s already on a cycle of injury, readjustment coming back, injury again. One of the reasons he was playing in a dead rubber match to begin with was he was still working to establish consistency and chemistry with some of the other players. It definitely worries me.

Chelsea really look poor atm and impotent in attack and it's a big problem. They're playing at Newcastle their next game and you don't really expect them to win that one either. Probably best thing for Chelsea is the fact that World Cup break is coming up.

Yeah, I have accepted a loss already. Happy to welcome the world cup. But then we're playing City a week after the season restarts

Can't catch a break then

Those signings of 2020 summer looked great back then but now it seems that only Thiago Silva and perhaps Chilwell have turned out good. Worrying.

Yeah it's rough looking back some of those signings. They were meant to be the beginning of a new era combining these new signings with the homegrown players we had developed into the first team. A 50% success rate on a window like that is bad.

The state of this. I can understand why you might do this if you're a tourist and don't really support Chelsea but a lot of these whoppers are our actual 'support'. In reaction to this some fans want to bring in a singing section and emulate the Crystal Palace Blackshirts who are a bunch of droids wearing 'hardman' cosplay. Bellends the lot of em.

The squad looks a mess at the moment.

It's a mix of mostly "not good enough" (Some may eventually reach the level required) and "past it" players with a sprinkle of good quality players in their prime (Sterling, James, Chilwell, Fofana, Kovacic, Mount etc) but fashioned together haphazardly and suffering with injuries.

Think they will be ok under Potter in the long run but they probably have to spend the guts of 300m to get them to the very top of European football again (I'm.assuming that he will be given time by the fan base).

They really need to play a style that gets the most out of their best player, who IMO is Sterling.

No one else in that side has come close to him when they've been at their best.

Sterling is a concern. He certainly hasn't looked anywhere near our best player.

Once we've got our squad back, maybe the whole team including Sterling will look much better.

What concerns me more is he might have been promised in writing or otherwise that he's starting regardless of form. It certainly looks like that to me from the outside.

James and Kante are both comfortably better than Sterling, which is obviously a huge part of the problem.

Stop using Sterling as a wingback is a good start. Should be nowhere near that position, whether on form or not

Looking at his heatmap, in some games he's actually just standard winger despite being a 'wingback', hence why Cucurella looks so exposed sometimes.

Yeah, hamstrings are odd things. I've seem them go on teenagers, old farts and in the first 10 minutes and last 5 minutes.

In my own 20+ year playing career, I never, ever injured my hamstring, one of the benefits of being slow as shit.

I tore mine doing warm up wind sprints. My wife had a class 2 tear falling off her One Wheel. Us slow people do them in too!

They're missing James, Fofana, Chilwell and Kante to be fair and should improve when they're back. But it doesn't look good anyways, think Potter will be given time but not sure Chelsea are finishing top 4 this season, with 3-4 teams battling for those places as well.

Koulibaly was such a weird buy. This will be only his third league start under Potter and he only seems to start in the league when Thiago Silva isn't playing. They haven't started a league match together under Potter yet.

He’s been kinda terrible not gonna lie. Very underwhelming impact so far.

It’s looking like Potter doesn’t like the signings made in the summer really. It’s all a bit messy.

Be an interesting game tonight. You need a big performance!

Dunno. Hes started Auba, Sterling, Cucurella quite a lot. Not had a chance to work with Fofana yet. It’s just Koulibaly he’s repeatedly left on the bench.

Agree, big game this evening.

It's good for Chelsea Potter isn't afraid to bench a lot of big-name players who are underperforming. Ten Hag did the same after Brentford.

I would fully support this team selection from Potter but Zakaria needed to be playing on Jorginhos position. RLC dropped for Jorginho.

really struggling to rate Gallagher lately. like a headless chicken running around

This really is a painful watch.

As each game passes under Potter, the Tuchel sacking seems even more silly.

Chelsea have been dominated from start to finish tonight

What’s strange is Chelsea have just had their biggest ever transfer spend in a window just 1 year after winning the European cup, yet they are somehow the worst Chelsea team I can remember post-Roman days.
Still this.

After Liverpool's disastrous start so far, I’ve just realised chelsea are lower than them in the league now!

Broja is utter shite. If they are smart, they'll ship him off for big money before the rest of the league figures that out.
