Champions League Semi Finals (24th April - 2nd May)

I genuinely don't think he did.

You would have to not have watched any of Liverpool under Klopp to think playing 3 at the back pushed as high up as possible was a good idea. It was as basic as you can get. Hoffenheim did exactly the same thing in August and were thrashed as well.

I'd love to know what his thinking was because I can't understand it. It was like he was trying to lose.
Very unusual tactics for an Italian team, however if they had taken one of their early chances it may have been a different game.

It was a night for the Jose Sevilla away approach.

Just imagine if Heynckes wins the treble for the second time within 6 months

Pep's fanboys, needless to say, would be more than a tad sheepish after all their protestations over his record there, lol.

If that happen, Saint Pep will be hail as the great one who laid the fondation and philosophy for Heynckes.

Risky approach by Bayern with all those attackers..

It may sound paradox considering the formal line up, but this is actually a conservative approach. If he played Thiago instead of Robben, it would have meant they are going to try and wrestle with Real for midfield control.
With Thiago on the bench, I think Bayern will instead concede the midfield and go with a counter strategy. We'll see if it pays off.

James will play deeper. He already did that a few times in the last games, and very well.

Isnt Tolliso a little bit safer there? If he is not fit, Rudy or even Kimmich. I think Jupp feels they can play in the front foot/dominate midfield which is difficult against the likes of Modric and Kroos. But hopefully, Jupp knows what he is doing and feck Madrid.

I know that Bayern players are generally quite fit but Ribery and Robben may be quite oldish for such games.
Coman is injured and Müller not really a winger. Douglas Costa didn‘t work out, so they are (at least) one winger short.

James is an all around better footballer than Rudy, and Kimmich is absolutely needed on the right. Tolisso still couldn't play on the weekend. James had some games lately where he played a CM role and he was quite impressive at it.

IMO Muller should either play just off Lewandowski as a shadow striker, or not at all. If James can somewhat hold his own as a part of a double pivot, it looks fairly balanced, at least in theory.

I just read somewhere that this is Real's 8th consecutive Semi final. Amazing how natural this stage has become for them considering that for a while they couldn't get past the R16 stage. Whilst spending a lot of money during that period. Mourinho's impact there should not be underestimated. He toughened them up and help lay the foundations for the success they are having now. I hope we can follow that same route and make this stage a natural one. We too seem to be following this 'galactico' policy without much success so far like Real Madrid from 2003-2010 with the profile of signings that we've made in recent years. Hopefully we reap the rewards soon.

Really can't predict, but if I want to hazard a guess, Bayern will beat Real tonight on their turf. 2-1 or something like that to keep the second leg open.

May the better (than Liverpool) team win!

The central position between the wingers and behind Lewandwoski is Müller's strongest suit.

Has to be Real Madrid. They just know how to do it. And even if they don't they'll find a way with certain decisions, etc.

Normally I'd be rooting for Bayern but with their injuries I feel Real Madrid have a better chance in the final against Liverpool. Feels crap either way to be honest but Liverpool winning the CL would be by far the worst feeling.
Yeah that’s where I am.

Yeah, i kinda remember him struggling under Ancelotti during the last season, wasn't he shoehorned into a RW in a 4-3-3?

Worst thing was when Carlo put him as CF. Urgh. RW can work against slower defenders (physically or mentally slow).

I think Bayern will progress, simply because they'll want revenge for last year's injustice.

Then Bayern will do their usual choke-job in the final and roll over for Liverpool.

I’d have put Müller on the right and played Thiago in the middle. Robben was horrible lately. But Heynckes tends to get those things right when it matters, so I‘ll give him the benefit of the doubt.

You realize we won it as often as the scousers? :nono:

Auf gehts, sechs mal, Junge!

...I don't want to watch... I can't not watch... :nervous:

Isn’t Bayern’s CM very light with Martinez - James? Or has James morphed into a well rounded CM?

No idea what to expect from this game. Bayern haven't really been challenged since Heynckes took over again but they've won pretty much everything pretty comfortably since. Really hope whatever the case, one of these 2 beat Liverpool in the final. All that matters

City walked to the title with David Silva and De Bruyne as their midfielders... It's all in the system and how they get these players to play together.
