Champions League Round of 16 (18th Feb - 8th Aug)

Where is the pace for Chelsea on that counter attack? Strange team selection

That Barcelona team was the greatest football side I've ever seen and widely regarded as the best club team ever.

I'm not sure they're "widely" regarded, in that conversation for sure - AC Milan of 88-95 would be too. Making 5 CL finals winning 3 of them and winning 4 Serie A titles.

Really thought that was the end of Robben at Bayern. He wasnt very popular for a while after that right?

He was booed a week after in Allianz Arena, when he played against Bayern with Holland in a friendly pre-Euros. It was scandalous at the time (beeing booed by his own fans) but this story had an happy end with him scoring the winner against Dortmund one year later.

Lewandowski looks like such a classy striker, I am 100% confident he will score tonight.

Every single player for bayern has a great first touch. Thats the key to modern teams that look to dominate. Mix that with a few great passers and you could just ping the ball around opposition players. Chelsea love to press yet the likes of mount the engine cant close down quick enough. Only hope for chelsea is catching Bayern on the break from a misplaced midfield pass. Thaigo has already misplaced a few.

Lot of nothing passes from Bayern here. You can see how a counter attacking side could really hurt them

Yeah .. they have some pacy players as well and they've gotten a couple of potential counter attacks going but Giroud / Kovacic / Mount / Barkley all too slow.

How good is Herr Flick?

I don't think anyone really knows. He certainly seems a good fit for Bayern. But I feel like when Bayern's players are happy and key players are fit, they can do A LOT on autopilot, especially against weaker opponents that allow themselves to be bullied/dominated. Even Kovac had them doing really well for a while, when they were fired up to win the title last season.

Aah, right we played a friendly to repay the fact he came back from the world cup or euros with an injury or something. His eventual winner was great to watch. He was a bit of a bottler up till then. Because I still remember a very different miss in a final from him.

Fecking Casillas..

Not sure about the form but think Willian would have suited for counter attacking football Chelsea are trying to play.

They should disallow Merten's goal purely for that celebration

Probably you are right. But as a team they seem to know what they are doing as a team. They don't seem to have an individual player who can do outstanding things though. They should have scored though.

Chelsea should be 2 or 3 down now. Muller been the best player on the pitch.

Well people talk about Barcelona in the context of 08-12.
Who? Who does that? If they weren’t around to watch at the time they might. Messi’s first truly untouchable season was 08/09. We beat Barca on our way to the final in 08, deservedly so, and Ronaldo was the better player, though none of them really had great games. Barcelona from 09-12 is the greatest team I’ve ever seen. I’m sure you can go and find stats from 07/08 and 08/09 for Messi if you want a point of reference and is into that sort of thing.
