Champions League Round of 16 (16th Feb - 17th Mar)

At least this game should provide copious data for the video sessions about what not to do for the next stage. :)
Not win the first leg 4-1 away seems to be the answer

Just heard both Verratti and Marquinhos too, and yeah, you can't deal with a big lead

Strong possibility of another Premier league champions league final now.

Tuchel is capable or leading his side to another final. If Liverpool do reach the final at least there is a better chance of them losing it against Chelsea managed by Tuchel or City under Pep. Spurs under Poch was never going to beat Liverpool in the 2019 final.

Woah pump the breaks

Chelsea? Chill out.

Bayern or PSG will knock the scousers out in the Semis. City have a good chance but You couldn’t trust them in the CL.

Covid has been a big help to the scousers again in this tie as Leipzig have got an excellent home record in The Red Bull Arena and Anfield has hardly been a fortress recently .

Hey, did you know that we lost to this terrible Leipzig team in the group stages? Can't believe no-one has mentioned that yet!

Jesus Tap Dancing Christ

Chelsea vs Liverpool to battle it out in the final to decide to true fluke rubber match. I'm scripting it in right now.... after finishing 5th and 8th in the league.

Amazing analysis. Don't you think having a crowd might help Liverpool with their form at home?

By the way thanks for Keylor!
He's a real difference maker.

Yea I think so too. Bayern probs the biggest favorites to win the whole thing this season, with City and PSG as the 2 big outsiders. I rate City over PSG easily, and wouldnt mind a final between Bayern and City - with Bayern crushing them there.

I think 2 games in a neutral venue with no fans is about as fair as it gets for deciding who's a better team.

Just seen the highlights, Dembele is prone to awful finishing when it matters. Terrible. Surprised he didn't get injured though

Losing home advantage was a big thing for Leipzig though as they are strong at home , they beat us there yet we smashed them in Old Trafford , and recently Liverpool have been awful in Anfield.

Yep, he's a class act. Not complaining about Courtois but Flo's obsession with a new keeper never made sense

Liverpool look so much better with Fabinho in there protecting the defence. Been saying it for 3 months but Klopp messed up massively by not playing him and Henderson in midfield.

Yes their defenders got injured but they've had at least Philips + one other fit, Klopp essentially threw away their title defence by not playing their 2 best midfielders in midfield.

This PSG is far away from being able to win the Champions League than they were last year.

Barcelona's task was difficult but they were not far away, they played a great first half that could have killed the French, but they had to have a very high rate of effectiveness in the shot and that's when they missed the opportunity.
Dembele had 3 or 4 good chances and all failed in a big way.
Messi scored a great goal but missed a penalty that is something that rarely happens.

Another great night by Keylor Navas.

Barcelona has a future but needs a new batch of CB's and a 9 and get rid of Griezmann, Coutinho, Pjanic, etc ...

Yeah they actually had a good chance of turning around the tie last night. They dominated possesion and created the most chances. If Dembele was a good finisher they could have had at least 2 or 3 goals from him in first half, and then Messi fecked up his penalty and had a fairly decent chance in the box. He scored a nice screamer though and created the most chances, but I'd still consider it a mixed performance.

Nice hindsight. But we had Gomez and Matip injured almost immediately after VvD. Rhys Williams was tried and it was suicidal. Nat was good but new and needed Matip or Gomez or VvD next to him to bring him up to speed. None of the above were available. So it had to be Fabinho until we got someone in (at the end of) the transfer window. Despite popular myth we're not a Chelsea or City that can throw £50m at an ordinary defender on 1st Jan.

Over-using Fabinho resulted in his injuries too, just when Hendo himself was going through his injury roll. Basically we were not going to win the league, maybe not even if VvD wasn't assaulted. Our whole team seemed to be at the end of a fitness cycle.

Saying that, it would be nice to see Fab and Thiago more often in the middle with Hendo or even 'wet wafer body' Keita. Would be nice to fluke a CL win in Istanbul. I've heard it can be done.

The virus infections numbers are alarmingly going up in EU. I wonder CL might choose to repeat the one country model again.

A seemingly recurring motif. Afterall, after being 3-0 up at home versus Liverpool, it was Dembele missing an absolute sitter that ended up being oh so crucial after losing the 2nd leg to them.

Dembele seems to be at the very centre of what if moments in key games. Not a good reputation.

And he cost around 140 mil euro's for that.

Hoping the Atalanta - Madrid game is better today as the City game is done and dusted.

Atalanta could still surprise Madrid I think. They were down to 10 men for most of the first leg and were still competitive.

Yep, that's what I've been saying too. Henderson as well.

City: Ederson; Walker, Stones, Dias, Cancelo; Silva, Rodri, Gundogan; Mahrez, De Bruyne; Foden

Subs: Aguero, Garcia, Laporte, Steffen, Fernandinho, Mendy, Carson, Torres, Zinchenko, Jesus, Sterling, Ake

Gladbach: Sommer; Lainer, Ginter, Elvedi, Bensebaini; Hofmann, Neuhaus, Stindl, Zakaria; Embolo, Thuram

Subs: Sippel, Grun, Lang, Kramer, Hermann, Wolf, Plea, Traore, Beyer, Wendt, Lazaro, Jantschke

Referee: S Karasev (Rus)

Brave decision from Rose to field his best eleven here, when today's game is hopeless anyway, and a difficult game awaits on Saturday against Schalke..

City already 2-0 up. De Bruyne with a a very nice finish for the first one.
I hope that at least Atalanta can stay in the other tie for a bit longer.

Gladbach is in for a thrashing here

Funny how some united fans still think United have a similar quality to city's. I know pep is special but any manager will love to work with this set of players and the board.

Will a four goal lead be enough though, once Embolo gets going?

Annoying watching them at the mo, everything going fine and dandy for them. Injury free, free run in the league, everyone in the team chipping in goals, bye draws, quadruple talk etc. Just derail already! so we can have a laugh.

The fluidity of this team is quite fascinating to watch. Feels like literally everyone can play in any position. Each player knows their individual and collective role. Simply down to coaching - Pep truly is a master at what he does.
