Champions League Quarter Finals (5th - 13th Apr)

Scousers beat them pretty comfortably a couple of years back, expect the same in the semi's but actually feel Villarreal might beat Bayern :nervous:
I think that was when Bayern were pretty bad before Flick took over, but yeah their defense this season hasnt really been that good and honeslty Liverpool too...I do feel that they will target Arnold just like any team does. I dont think Villareal will do something and they better not to because I need someone to give Liverpool a fight in the semis and that will surely be Bayern not them.

Nagelsmann seeing Guardiola brought back and re-popularized the old 3-2-5 from the 1950s: "amateur. 3-1-6 is the way"
I think/hope/pray the yolo-approach will be rolled back a bit once we have Davies and Goretzka back which should be shortly. Those two have been massive losses for months.

It's gonna be epic round of games despite of us not being there. That's where we have to be next season and do everything to work for it.

I hope the good boys of Real Madrid football club don't shit the bed again.

I see the Dippers handing out a hammering against Benfica, honestly wouldn't be surprised by a minimum of a +4 aggregate scoreline over the two legs with Benfica defending for their lives to keep the score down.

City v Atleti will be tighter but I see City controlling possession for most of the two legs and winning by a goal or two on agg after having to handle some real sh*t housery; that said I do give Atleti a 25% chance of griding/sh*t housing a result with Pep out thinking himself.

Bayern and Villareal could either be an easy win for Bayern or a hard fought win for Villareal, that tie will depend on how Villareal handle the first leg. Hold out in the first, they have a chance in the second, lose (even just by 1) and I think Bayern will win with some comfort in the second leg.

Chelsea v Real is the one that could go either way. I think Chelsea are actually the better team and a bit of a bad match up for Real, however they're what I now term a cup side as they are dangerous but do not have enough consistency to win a league. This game will be won in CM, who ever does that wins imo. Additionally, I don't see this tie as done even if someone wins 2-0 or 3-1 in the first leg.

Surely Pep can do better than that reply. We‘ll play with 12 … expected better.

Not going to watch the games tonight since I have already given up on this season with United and I know it's going to end up a City v Liverpool final in CL final. The less football I watch the better my mental health is so going to give it a miss.

Atheltico are an easy tie, we made them look pretty average and we’re woeful. Why’s he so rattled already?

Simeone already knocked Guardiola out of the CL when baldie was at Bayern...

Guardiola can definitely mess this up, and get knocked again by Simeone, let's not forget the Lyon,Monaco, and Tottenham episodes.

Nah man, you gotta party on dude! Watch both games - split screen. :)

Atletico was far, far better back then. Nowhere near that level today.

How do people enjoy football when United are so bad and City/Liverpool are so good? I can't watch this after our performances of late because it just makes me so angry at how bad at are compared to our rivals given the same/more resources. On the bright side, at least we've saved ourselves another tonking from City.

Honestly, the whole Pep overthinks it narrative is a bit overblown, but there have been a few instances of it. First leg against Spurs, the OL game, final last year...

The man played inverted fullbacks to beat Moyes’ United.
That was the way they played in general. He didn't really do anything different or specific for that tie, just went with the usual lineups and tactics. If anything in fact, you could say he didn't overthink it enough for the SF against Real Madrid, when he played right into our hands in the first leg and then let his players convince him to go the way they wanted for the second leg

The first leg against Spurs, it was down to Aguero missing his penalty.
The game against OL, had Sterling scored that opportunity at 2-1, it might have ended differently.
The final, had Mahrez equalized with that opportunity towards the end, we don't know how the match would have ended.

My point is that none of those defeats was directly due to Pep overthinking anything.

Don’t forget man marking Barca when at Bayern, that was a ridiculous 20 odd mins of football and Monaco 2nd leg was on him for me as well - could have been a bit more pragmatic but left Toure on the bench and they got completely overrun. I get people love the idea of him as a purist who won’t change his ways but going out to Lyon, Monaco and Spurs is awful for that squad.

I’m on the train from Stockport to Manchester and a group of city fans have got on. They’re all wrestling and touching each other’s knobs, are they all like this?

Proper wrong ‘un behaviour.

They were a much better team and he went into that game hyper-conservative. Sure, ultimately it was players mistakes that cost them, but he reduced their chances of winning with that first leg gameplan

Sure. And if he doesn't spot OL the first 60 minutes, they likely win that game 4-1
The final, had Mahrez equalized with that opportunity towards the end, we don't know how the match would have ended.
And again, play their usual lineup and maybe they don't get overrun in the first half

Sure, but the manager's job is to put his players in the best position to win. And in those games he didn't do that

It was but given all the injuries and the opponent it was pretty much a desperate gamble - and he corrected it quickly

and Monaco 2nd leg was on him for me as well - could have been a bit more pragmatic but left Toure on the bench and they got completely overrun
They got overrun in the first half. That was just a weird performance. He didn't really do anything weird, they just didn't show up for the first half...
