Champions League | Matchday 6

it’s also largely ignored what an incredible roster of attacking talent they’ve accumulated. Simeone is definitely doing a great job but there’s far more occasion for them to be unleashed than they are.

Imagine that Athletico Madrid team with an attacking manager. They could be thumping teams for fun. Unfortunately, they are being orchestrated by an Argentinian Mourinho.

Jota was a lucky boy today. In the league that wouldn't been deemed as clear and obvious error, and the decision would have stayed.

Depressing to see three of the four best teams in the world are Chelsea, Liverpool and City. We are nowhere near.

"net salary before tax", thought this kind of thing only existed for players of Monaco
That's what Gross salaries after "Social charges" are called in France. In the UK the "Social Security rate" is around 12-14 %, your employer pays this before hading out your gross salary.

In France the "Social Security rate" is around 35 % and clubs have to pay these charges. So Herrera cost rougly 145K/ week. 110 of them is the "gross", and he then pays the income tax from that 110k.

No way that number is correct.

According to who? That's what french sources that actually follow PSG daily for decades report. Why would your sources be more accurate? Do you need me to remind you what absurd numbers english papers invent each time a player leaves PL? Check what was reported for Ramsey at Juventus, it was ridiculous, maybe triple what he actually earns.

Dude, what is your point with VVD. He's fit enough to play the vast majority of games for Liverpool and his NT. Hummels missed two games for Dortmund and had to pass on every single international invite. His knee problems are a constant topic, he's probably only playing with painkillers. And the whole issue is that it's not just one players, who is having issues. So trying to turn this into a VVD vs Hummels fitness debate is even more asinine. Hummels isn't even the biggest issue for Rose, because he's still performing on a relatively good level.

You mention tactical cohesion, but not getting a good pre-season with your team and not being able to form a cohesive first XI, because you're constantly missing players is quite obviously a direct obstacle for that. Not to mention that Klopp himself once nosedived all the way down to the bottom fo the table, when faced with a tournament hangover and injuries after the 2014 WC.

That doesn't buy Rose a complete pass, but it illustrates that part of the problem goes beyond tactics.

Putting all that aside, given I was raging looking at that tepid performance after being doubtful of Rose for a while now, why do you think he's persistenting with this diamond formation? Do you see any value in it?

From what I remember, he would play 4-3-3 at Gladbach and keep width in his side. That's what's making me more surprised at this.

Neither would I say that a diamond formation is somehow just bad by default, nor is Rose stubbornly playing it.

Exhibit A:

Ugh I miss him, I wish he would grow his hair out again. I really liked it when he had his man bun.

It's a very narrow 4-3-3 then that doesn't use the advantages of being able to play wingers to stretch the defense, while having 3 men in midfield, and give passing options to the full backs and also assist in defending the opposition full back. That was one area Dortmund were to easily being pulled apart for me.

I honestly have always hated the diamond formation because it congests the center so much that you can't control that midfield from there.

I’m quite comfortable believing Ramsey is on €500k and Herrera is on €300k.

Ah right, thanks for the insight! Apologies @Oly Francis

Mbappe is an embarrassment. Can’t believe that penalty was given.

Not a stat man, but Berghuis had a pass accuracy of 100% in the first half with 26/26 and created 4 chances. That's mental for a 10.

They are pushing their "wingers" into half spaces and task fullbacks with providing width. The attack is clearly not functioning on a high level, but that's not, because having "wide wingers" is the only way to success.

Why haven't Real Madrid or Barcelona raided Liverpool for Salah in all these years like they always seemed to do to us?

They don't have the same pull as people think they do these days. It's got less and less post Covid. Not every player dreams of playing just for those two teams like fans say it's "every Spanish or South American players dream" to play for either.

What's happened to the proper highlight show they used to have on BT? Utter shit this year showing these quick cut highlights.

Are you saying that Herrera gets paid 110k a week and then pays income tax? If so, that's utter tripe.

About the only player we have moved on in last few years I wish we had kept.
Same.

Opposite to those who have raised PL above CL football, World Cup, European Cup and whatever there is. Blind is an incredibly smart and skilled player, and if we played a brand of football which makes use of that instead of how fast and strong all players are individually, we might have gotten somewhere.

He has dropped so many masterclasses in Europe, it is silly to suggest the PL is a level too high for him.

The way you keep going on about him one could think he's playing for Feyenoord.

Liverpool have the toughest group and are qualifying at a canter.

We on the other hand are shitting ourselves over Atalanta. FML

As I said much less believable than him reportedly being on three times than amount.

Yeah makes you think if only that toy story puppet didn't get the job in 2013 and made us a laughing stock

Why does every second ball drop to a Liverpool player? It doesn't matter what direction the ball goes, it will always land perfectly for them.

God I hate them so much.
Mate, that’s good coaching. The first two goals against Watford they won the 1st and 2nd ball and were a pas away from being in on goal.

Good for you if you're confortable believing nonsense. Ramsey earns €225k according to the most generous sources.

Ramsey earns a gross salary of 9,17 M euros. That's €176 K/week or £150 K/week

But British papers want us to believe that he would never have left the mighty Arsenal for Juventus unless his salary was tripled.

This been said, he surely got a juicy signing bonus given that he joined on a free. (Probably was the case for Herrera at Paris as well)

I don’t have much time to post, but it’s always fun to read through these CL threads, you’d sometimes think this is an Ajax forum next to an anti-Liverpool and “can-we-kidnap-that-side’s-manager” forum. ;)

Anyway, quite pleased with the wins so far, not quite expected this CL season to kick-off so well. Does appear some of the opposition has been weaker than expected, but still, 11 goals in three matches and only conceding one. Brilliant result.

Hopefully other Dutch team get some points too. With results like this we should really get that national UEFA rating up a bit at some point… Right? …Right? [leers at Feyenoord, Vitesse, AZ and PSV]

Former winners in group but let's be honest it's not that strong of a group for Liverpool.

AC Milan aren't a patch on their former selfs, Porto still living off their success with Jose and always rolls over against Liverpool. Madrid the 2nd best in their group and that lucky win for Liverpool tonight should secure 1st place now.

Oh BTW Atalanta beat Liverpool 2-0 in Anfield last season so I wouldn't be underestimate them.

I'm a giant Berghuis fan and still am even if he broke my heart by going to Ajax. Can hardly blame him either, he just fits there.

Harsh! He's a great manager who has found a style and system that works. Athletico were brilliant on the counter yesterday, everytime they attacked it felt like they would score. Bar the red card and alisson making some fantastic saves, they would've won. Plus I enjoy his mad man antics on the touchline
