Champions League Knockouts (12 Aug - 23rd Aug)

Ronaldo has destroyed Bayern in the past. Including a 4-0 hammering of Pep's Bayern.

Ronaldo also has more knockout goals than Messi and Raul combined and as many CL titles as Barcelona as a football club.
And Messi literally retired Boateng as a WC defender

Is it weird that I actually wouldn't mind a City win simply because I actually want to see them vs. Bayern?

I feel a bit dirty now

You need to jump in the shower!

When watching a game as a neutral, I’ll always root for the underdog.

I agree City vs Bayern is likely to be a better game to watch, but it’s a step closer for them, so would much rather City are knocked out tonight and the Bayern match is as one sided as you would expect against Lyon.

Can’t see City losing this mind.

Hope City go through, want to see them vs Bayern. Bayern will then win, but would be nice to really see how good they are.

Glad Caqueret is playing, he impressed me vs Juve. One to watch out for.

Interesting line up. Three water carriers in midfield for City. Pep overthinking it again.

I think Lyon will knock City out personally. Although Pep has identified their strength and put an extra midfielder in there, but I think Ekambi will terrorise them and City are not the same in the biggest of games without Aguero.

He really does come up with some neurotic team selections in big games, doesn't he?

Where was that in the World Cup Final?

Didn't Ronaldo get knocked out of that same tournament from a group containing Ghana and the USA?

Don't understand why we're discussing Ronaldo in a thread for CL knockouts though. His team were eliminated before this stage

It's especially bad in away games and it seems like he is treating neutral ground like an away game. That's really what tarnished his time at our club. So many wasted away games in the CL with him...

 Yes.

And he discusses Ronaldo everywhere. I'm pretty sure one of him and sportingchap are that Shaman Ronaldo.

Ronaldo always scores against us, doesn’t even matter what colour shirt he’s wearing! Really pleased not to be playing against him.

And Messi has also destroyed Bayern on different seasons (2009, 2015).

Isn't there a containment thread for the Messi and Ronaldo fanboys to swing handbags at each other? :wenger:

That City lineup doesn't look very impressive.
Lyon must be confident in their chances.

No City discussion mainly? Everyone just thinking they will win easy or what?

I'm a bit torn. I want them to be beaten today (it is after all City); but I also want to see how they would fare versus the machine that is Bayern (which means they would have to win today).

Sickening.

Lyon will mainly defend and try to counter-attack.

Robust but not exciting

Even if it wasn't City, the prospect of 3/4 of the CL semifinalists being Abu Dhabi, Qatar, and Red Bull is sickening enough.

Pep can improve his player well. Particular his midfielders normally look great.
Still it feels like it is up to Sterling to score or a long distance shot from De Bruyne.
Haven’t watched them in a while. Do most of their goals still come from tap ins at the far post from drilled low crosses? Crazy they were doing that do so long without teams finding a way to stop it. Our Tony would get 50 goals a season if he played for them haha.

I'm not a fan of Jesus at all. City look so much weaker in that position without Aguero. Sooner or later, City will go for another striker as they look short in that department. Take Sterling out of that team too and they don't look anywhere near dangerous.

I don’t think I’ll be able to handle the media wankfest if Liverpool win the PL & City win the CL. Sky will be all over it with their “2 greatest teams of all time” shit.

As a neutral I really want to see a City vs Bayern semi, with Bayern winning obviously.

Surprised there's United fans wanting City to win. Sure, the game against Bayern would be good from a neutrals perspective, but City in a semi final is way too risky! They need eliminating asap.
