Champions League Knockouts (12 Aug - 23rd Aug)

Football is souch better as a neutral. Just enjoy seeing other teams get wrecked and it doesn't involve us at all.

Barcelona playing suicidal football.....over and over again. Quite bizarre.
Mad wasn't it? I understand having a particular approach or tactic but when it not only fails to work but actually costs you over and over again, why the feck would you keep doing it? Are they that inflexible?

Honestly, I don't watch much Spanish football so I'm fairly stunned by how far Barca have fallen. They don't press anymore, they're short of pace, their best players are declining and their midfield is non-existent.

Bayern are just utterly ruthless and totally exposing their flaws tonight. It could end end up the Champions League equivalent of Germany 7 - 1 Brazil at this rate.

This tells you something about the coaching. I never really rated Müller or Perisic as standalone players but they perfectly fit into this well oiled machine.

bayern have a "philosphy" and stick by it regardless of manager I suppose.

Something we are slowly building back up at our club.

Just goes to show that you don't need a 100m player to have a top tier team. Really impressive.

Perhaps. I heard they have now scored 150 goals this season?
Point is i don’t think Bayern would do that vs our fully fit defence. They’d score but not obliterate is like this.
Barcelona we’re inviting pressure with their idiotic Mandatory passing from back Policy.

I don't think they'd destroy City, but if we'd be playing them now, I could quite easily see them destroy us.

I highly doubt it. He is a massive Espanyol fan as well. It would be worse than if he were to go manage Arensal after Spurs. He won't do it.
Pochettino also expressed reticence to such an idea on several occasions, most recently in 2018 when he claimed he would never coach Barca, Arsenal or Rosario Central due to his close ties to Espanyol, Spurs and Newell's Old Boys.

"I would prefer to work on my farm in Argentina than go to work in certain places," he said - but he has now backtracked on that statement.

"I have to explain it well," he told El Pais. "I was in Barcelona that year and I met [Barca president Josep Maria] Bartomeu in a bar.

"We greeted each other because we were taking the children to the same school and we were talking for five minutes. That generated a rumour that set off alarms because there were more teams that wanted us.

"When reporters asked me, I wanted to settle it drastically. I didn't want to disrespect Barcelona. You can say things differently. Espanyol has made a name for me, but I'm not arrogant and I didn't like making a statement like that.

"Maybe now I wouldn't because in life you never know what will happen."

You never know. The man is out of work right now. Can see it happening.

I think if De Gea plays like he did against Chelsea they would kill us 5-1. If not, then they probably win 2 or 3-1.

To be fair, we snuffed City out in both league matches this year, especially in the second one where they had no clear cut chances the entire match. When we want to defend, there are few teams better in all honesty.

We wouldn’t play like Barcelona have attempted. OGS would park the bus and play on the counter. It would be a very different game

Whats next for Barcelona? Messi 33, Suarez 33, Busquets 32, Pique 33, Alba 31, Rakitic 32, Vidal 33, Griezmann 29... Lots of good players to replace in the next few years

Setien needs to bring Rakitic, and one of Demebele/Fati on. They need goals and they need them fast. Just 0 threat currently.

They would kill us with their pressing.

Throw on dembele I’ve only bad impressions of him . Change my mind please

Bayern have had a lot of key guys for a while though like Neuer, Alaba, Boateng, Kimmich, Thiago, Muller, and Lewendowski. They took some time and tinkering understanding how to get the best of Gnabry, Perisic, Coman, Davies, etc after Robben and Ribery left. And they also have Pavard in their side, who is really good...not sure if he's playing tonight as I cannot watch. Then Goretzka is another good player in the middle. And they'll have Sane next season?

Bayern is known to get a lot of good players on free transfers or good transfer fees, but agree...you don't have to spend so much money on players as having a good setup, a strong core of key players, and meshed with good coaching/ideas will make you seriously competitive. Flick has done a tremendous job thus far.

The dismissal of Perisic with disdain a few seasons back looks a bit silly right now.

They spent 80mil on a defender last summer who doesn’t even start.

Implosion basically. No money. No youth coming through (well that fati guy).

Back to the mid 90s - early 20s for them. I.e. pre-messi and ronaldinho.
