Champions League Knockouts (12 Aug - 23rd Aug)

Playground football: defensive structure on both sides is non-existent. Bayern are simply much better at exploiting the acres of space in behind.

Amazing pressing. I can't believe the manager is a caretaker. Maybe I don't know much about him

They just gave him a contract through 2023. Seems to have been a good decision  . Guess his most profile role before this was being the #2 to Joachim Low, never saw that German team play so dynamically, albeit they won a WC.

Barca's only hope is that Bayern runs out of gas in the 2nd half like they have done at several occasions this year. I remember the DFB cup game against Frankfurt where we looked like dead men walking in the 2nd half after an equally impressive first half in which we wasted half a dozen 100% chances.

Are Bayern the most likeable of the remaining big teams in the competition?

So let me recap.

bayern have a gooner reject on one wing and an inter reject on the other, sandwiched by muller who by all accounts was "past it" and was almost sold by bayern...yet are 4-1 up against barca?

Impressive.

I have not really followed Barca this season but what is going on with Griezman and Dembele? How comes they do not start in games like this?

Just seen the score, and remembered that this game is on, wow. Barca taking quite a pummelling.

I think you are massively underestimating how fantastic Bayern are going forward, how hard they work for each other (like that Muller tap in, check the build up), the accuracy of their crosses and through balls, the pressing and the intensity with which they attack. They are simply frightening.
Perhaps. I heard they have now scored 150 goals this season?
Point is i don’t think Bayern would do that vs our fully fit defence. They’d score but not obliterate is like this.
Barcelona we’re inviting pressure with their idiotic Mandatory passing from back Policy.

I’ve seen the same game as you. Barcelona defending has been shambolic. Munich punished them for sure, but most of FCB problems were self created.

Ironically I think both of you are correct in this instance. The defending by Barcelona (and arguably even Munich at times) has been truly awful and it's due to poor organization from the manager (can see why he's gonna be sacked). Semedo seems an awful defender but he also doesn't seem to have good instructions to follow.

With that said, not many teams can ruthlessly cut open a defensive setup like Bayern have today, no matter how bad the defending. The accuracy and dynamism in their play has been frightening to watch today and I like how direct they are. If I was Ole, I would tell my team to watch Bayern today and say that is what we should be aiming for.

Don't worry, Barcelona will run out of gas a long, long, long time before Bayern.

Awesome stuff from Bayern. That's the sort of intensity we can only dream of at the moment.

I don't get why people are saying that City won't be able to beat Bayern based on this. City are much better team that Barcelona.

De Jong, Busquets, Vidal vs De Bruyne, B. Silva/D.Silva, Rodri

Old Suarez, Messi vs Sterling, Jesus, Mahrez (Messi is obviously the best, but he needs to do everything at Barcelona.)

Man City's defence may not be great, but they have pace and are much better in joining the attack than Barcelona.

This tells you something about the coaching. I never really rated Müller or Perisic as standalone players but they perfectly fit into this well oiled machine.

Coaching. Never thought Flick would do such an amazing job.

And they aren't even using Sane yet.

I am a bit confused by the manager for Barcelona yet. He's put Fati and Griezmann on the bench and stuck with Suarez.

Against a Barcelona XI which can’t find space for Griezeman or Dembele

Never underestimate the power of quality coaching. I mean it’s underestimated on here all the time, but yeah.

Suarez has been awful for 2 years now but the man is absolutely undroppable irrespective of how badly he plays or how unfit he looks.

Barcelona playing suicidal football.....over and over again. Quite bizarre.
Playing out from the back has to be done with a plan and a purpose. They are so lethargic and passing it to players who have 3 Bayern players surrounding them. This game has reminded me of the Brazil-Germany World Cup semi final the way Bayern have cut through Barca with such ease.
