Champions League Knockouts (12 Aug - 23rd Aug)

RB Leipzig succeed where Liverpool failed. Well done to them. After how they did the Scousers I have some sympathy for Atleti but RB deserved it. The Germans also demonstrated why you should never pass up a chance to shoot around the area. You never know where a bounce might take it.

If PSG can't beat Leipzig then their owners need to accept that they simply aren't good enough to win the CL regardless of the manager.

What does it mean "not good enough"? A team can be "not good enough" one year and "good enough" the year after if you make the right choices in the mercato.

Werner an idiot for not at least seeing the season through. Nagelsmann is class though, should be a complete no brainer for a top club to go for him. Would hope we do if we move on from Ole at any point next season, but he would definitely be a step up regardless.

I'm going to call it. He's an extremely overrated player and it's entirely possible that RBL's setup made him look better than he should. There's no way he'll replicate that in the PL.
Flop incoming.

Hopefully Leipzig can take PSG out next but I doubt they will. As for Atletico they peaked by beating Liverpool home and away in February.

That Sabitzer pass to Angelino in the buildup to the second RB goal was just sublime. Really think Sabitzer should be an option if we don't sign Grealish or VDB... different player to them but impresses me every time I watch Leipzig. Wonder how much he'd cost, not really a hyped up player outside of Germany.

You would not be shocked by a PSG vs City final would you?

City are much better than both Bayern and Barca for me. In one game I think they defeat both.

PSG will pass to the final too. As fun as Leipzig are, PSG are a cut above them imo.

So yeah it's finally the year Petrol clubs achieve their goal. :D

What a match! I really like carrasco and joao Felix will be a star.

RbL have been excellent and well- drilled as a team. Upamecano is great. Really knows how to play out the back if that’s our main strategy moving forward. Much better than maguire and lindelof. Can pick out FORWARD passes too! Who would’ve imagined that’s possible.

Am I right in thinking that Red Bull are a lot more popular outside of Germany than inside of it?
I was in East Germany last week, people are actually quite fond of them. The only Bundesliga club from the former DDR.

That said, traditional local teams who are now relegated to lower leagues are actually insanely popular. Lower leagues are such a cult thing in Germany. I was also in Magdeburg for a short stop, insanely fanatical fans there, but even many of them are proud of Leipzig representing DDR.

So we're looking at Red Bull vs Qatar on one side and Dubai vs old football presumably in the other side.

How long until the owner receives the trophy instead of the captain?

Like the NBA :D Or am I remembering that Last Dance doc wrong?

Werner has qualities (his pace/speed and good runs) that should work everywhere. He is very similar to Aubameyang in that regard and he is doing more than fine in the PL. It's always a possibility for a player to flop (even Sheva did at Chelsea) but it won't be because of the league.
I also don't think that RBLs setup makes him look better or worse in any way. They are a good team but it's not like you get the best service in the world (I think that was also obvious today) as RBL striker and Werner is actually often someone who even has to initiate attacks from the wing.

Serves them fecking right for naming their dogs after our ground, celebrating like they already won the friggin cup, and the cheek of their president declaring they should be champions because they beat the champions if the competition got cancelled. Err no.

Come on tell us how you Really feel.

DDR. Wow that's a reference that takes you back.

And how do you feel about them as footballers?
Well in particular Griezmann and Felipe Luis I think are better than what Atletico have now.

And Gabi vs the likes of Llorente and Herrera in that midfield is noticable. Atletico we're still the abrasive, dogged until they are now, but were a little more progressive with their football also.

Nooooooo, they should cheer for historical clubs who represent football nobility. The proper teams that are certainly not big money mastodonts and definitely don't have plastic fans. True football connoisseurs know this!

Chuffed for RB. Such a great group of young players in that team being lead by a young manager.

Hope they upset PSG as well.

Just American sports in general. Given how football is progressing with wealthy owners everywhere and the ludicrous spending on players I can see us progressing to that model as it's a model that benefits the owners more.

Atletico played as if this was an away match of 2 legs.

That can ba said about their every game tbf.

That's the only way Simeone knows how to organise his team, but unfortunately for him they aren't strong defensively as they used to be.

I reckon the winner out of Bayern and Barca game are winning the tournament, don’t think city’s defence is strong enough yet.

I was worried for a minute they'd somehow continue with the drink breaks to squeeze in commercials
