Champions League Knockouts (12 Aug - 23rd Aug)

Atletico have also made adjustments from the first half with Koke becoming more central on occasions during the build-up. However, their players are too far apart to really be able to link together. Marcos Llorente's trying to link everyone together, but Leipzig are doing a decent job of pressing the Atletico players before Llorente can receive the ball.

Why do Athletic play like this against smaller teams
I can understand if they were playing Liverpool or Barca
They remind me of a Jose Morinho’sTeam

I'd much rather see Leipzig take on PSG in the semi than Atletico

Upamecano sometimes has a blunder and his positioning isn't always the best. He's also a bit injury prone unfortunately.

But other than that he is very good and very complete defender.

He was heavily linked with Bayern and Arsenal. I think Boateng will play another season for bayern and then they will go for Upamecano.

But I could also see him in the premier league. He is basically built for that league.

A tired Atletico Madrid is a weak team.

Their key factor of success under Simeone has mainly been their ability to suffer and be physically robust

Negative football but also declining team since some times
They've spent a lot of money and it's not an old team. It seems every year that they set out to be more attacking, it doesn't work and then they revert to type, I wonder if recruiting for a more free-flowing style and then going back to the Simeone playbook has played a part in their slight drop off (they're obviously still a very good side).

He has some way to becoming a complete defender. He's heavily reliant on his physical attributes, but his ability on the ball is a huge asset for a team like Leipzig; it relieves much of the pressure that their midfield would typically get. When he's making mistakes on the ball, though, he becomes a defensive liability.

he's still very young for that position at 21, plenty of time to improve aspects of his already strong game

Because very few teams can commit to playing more than one way very well. Atletico are very good at playing like this because they play like this all the time

Also weird that quality players like Saul and Koke seems so determined to keep playing there. Both good enough to play for most top clubs.
I only ever support them when they play against Barcelona or the other English teams.

Nothing wrong with a defender who is strong and can play football

Felix is 20? Thought he was 18. Imagine what Greenwood must be worth if we consider the fee paid by Atletico.

Remember feeling they were much easier on the eye with the likes of Gabi, Griezmann, Felipe Luis, Juanfran about 5/6 years ago when they were reaching finals and won the league.

And how do you feel about them as footballers?

Hahaha Costa no foul. Bit disappointed, not the player he was, very quiet, used to be such an entertaining watch.

Leipzig are very impressive. Never stop running, constantly looking for overlaps, their pressing is probably the most organised out of every team in the CL, very fluid system overall. And all that for a net spend that is very low on a European scale.

He just signed a new contract. He isn't going anywhere unless its for Maguire money.

It was a "Werner extension". Meaning a player on his last year extends his contract for only one year including a moderate release clause.

Next season will most definitely be Upamecanos last one at Leipzig.
