Champions League gameweek 3

Sometimes I struggle to understand that insistence on playing from the back, in particular when you know the opponent likes to press high.

Granted they were in the game before the red card, but they still lost the ball so many times. It looked like Barca were a little off in this game as well, and still quite the comfortable win.

Are these the best pundits they can dig up to represent City?

Richard "I got shat out as soon as the money came" Dunne and Owen "I'm just here to spite United" Hargreaves.

John Stones is a comical "defender"
What could he have done differently in the box without causing a penalty against one of the best attackers in the world? Overall, he looked good to me in the match, if he had burried that chance before halftime, who knows what could have happened...

City with a full strength team, Barca with most of their defenders injured.

... And that's how you beat a Pep team. Utterly outclassed.

feck off Citeh.

Word. Guardiola has yet to find the key to beat Barcelona, and I like it. Nothing is better than seeing City get shitted on like that. Messi humiliating another of Guardiolas teams after he left Barca, he must've feel sick after this match.

Fun game.

60% great football, 10% brilliant slapstick, 30% 10 vs 10 with a 5 vs 5 feel to it.

What's wrong with Napoli today?! They were huge favourites and should have won this and could have closed in on qualification, yet they lost despite equalising twice. Now they need to go to Beskitas or they could be in trouble.

Boggles the mind why Pep didn't change anything. There was a solid ten minutes there where City couldn't string two passes together and they still kept trying it just outside their box. Causing their own problems.

Pep seems unable to find the right tactics against teams who're better or equal to his own. He doesn't look like a manager who would do well with a lesser team.

Aye, today he tried something different at least but it still wasn't really anywhere near good enough. He's just really bad at setting up a team defensively which is why if he comes up against equal or better teams he'll likely be shafted and this isn't the first time either.

So Barca again for City at home next then Monchengladbach away. Loss and and then anything but a win and they are out?

Edit: assuming Monchengladbach beat Celtic again next round

Moaninho would have bore everyone to death for 90 minutes to buy a 3-0 defeat.

If City are the best team in England, our league is so far behind this lot its unreal, despite the fortunes being spent.

Also, I wonder if there will be extensive discussion of Pep's tactical blunder of not playing Aguero from the start??

If my auntie had balls she would be my uncle.

So United lose three matches in a row and we are in a crisis?

City haven't won for four games? I wonder will City get them same criticism like we got

Can someone at BT explain to me why the first half is more important than the second half?
Why don't Barca deserve this big win?

I'd not read to much into the City result. Pep's away record in the CL is quite bad considering the teams at his disposal so it shouldn't come as a surprise that his team, which is still clearly inferior to Barca individually, got taken apart at the Nou Camp.

The ugly English hoofball is the best tactics to beat a high press, but Pep has too much pride for that. It´s also what got him wrecked against Madrid. That high line was so predictable. 72% possession in Madrid, but giving DiMaria, Ronaldo and Benzema acres of space to run into. Naive.

Doubt it. Even here people are salivating over City. And it's not City fans.

Football is about moments, City's didn't went in, but tbf, Barca made the most of theirs after the red card.

City created good chances against Barcelona, how many teams go to Camp Nou in a Champions-League match and actually achieve that? They played an open game. Most strategies are just to sit deep, absorb pressure and try to hit them on the brake. Refreshing what City tried to do.

Guardiola: "Messi can't be stopped." - 0-3, 3:2, 0:4
Heynckes: "I know how to deal with Barcelona." 4:0, 3:0

Tongue halfway in cheek
Except that Barcelona from 2013 isn't the same as this one. The 2013 one had a lot of problems. One of them was Messi's injury. This Barca can tear apart any team now and is much more versatile in style.
City actually played well in stretches but lacked belief and execution.

The sick thing is that I don't even think that Messi was playing that well by his own standards. 3 goals, a penalty and an assist :wenger:

Reminiscence of Pep's Bayern losing there. Many chances for both teams, high pressing in the first half and ruthless finishing by Messi.

Some better finishing and belief would have seen City score a few goals

Takes like this are a bit lame. "If this happens city score a few goals". Well then the same could be said for barcelona, if some things happen different they could have put 6-7 past them.

Same thing as idiot scousers saying that if cuntinho's shot goes in they win. If you go with that approach then if Ibra's header was better United win 1-0.

Like a cold shower for Pep.

I wonder how FCBarca is doing today. He should be happy his team won, but I got the feeling that Pep losing overshadows that completely...

Barca beat City BMG win, City 5, BmG 6. So no A loss to BMG and we'd be out. Draw and it would be 7-6 to BMG with us hosting Celtic and them at Barca. Regardless of other results BMG need to beat us. Than we'll be out. Straight shoot out for second.

Could the Caf admins make it so that "BMG" or "Monchengladbach" gets changed to "A German Team" automatically? @Damien

If you actually watch Barca in the group stages, they always seem to have nights like these and kick on late and destroy sides.
I remember Leverkusen last year going toe to toe and having the best of it. They went ahead and Hernandez missed a sitter to make it 2-0.
Suarez then had enough and that was that.
Difference was people weren't going on about it being a sign of Leverkusen's global standing in the game as was being posted on this forum tonight.

Specially when your players aren't the most technically accomplished players. Suicidal football and they have several warning throughout the game but Pep didn't change his tactics.
