Champions League 2nd Stage Draw

We avoid Real, Barca, and Valencia. Looks like we are guaranteed a trip to Italy and another date with Deportivo.

This is what our group will pan out to be:

1-Manchester United

2-Juventus/Inter Milan

3-Deportivo La Coruna

4-Lokomotiv Moscow/Ajax/Basel

Could be group of death or what: United, Juventus, Deportivo, Ajax <img src="graemlins/nervous.gif" border="0" alt="[Nervous]" /> <img src="graemlins/keano.gif" border="0" alt="[Keano]" /> <img src="graemlins/nervous.gif" border="0" alt="[Nervous]" /> <img src="graemlins/keano.gif" border="0" alt="[Keano]" />

I don't think that it is too difficult a group, it could have been worse.

Sorry Jens, but you're wrong. Dortmund have nothing to do with it.
 
Top seed - United
2nd seed - Juve/Inter/Milan
3rd seed - Depotivo/Dortmund
4th seed - Loko Moscow/Ajax/Basel
phew!......that is a tough group no matter how you slice it.

This champions league lark, eh...never thought we'd get to the stage where we would be better in Europe than we are in our own domestic league...go figure?

Because:
1) We'll get Deportivo (Pot 3) 100% as all other Pot 1 teams are Spanish.
2) Milan were in the same group with Deportivo in the 1st phase
3) Dortmund is also in Pot 3

don't be so sure.. with united's luck you might as well throw ajax into the pile..

basel would not stand a chance in any group in the secord phase imo.. it's one of the strongest pool of teams i've ever seen in the CL.

Real, Milan, Dortmund and Newcastle is as much a group of death. Very likely too as Real, Milan and Newcastle all must face a German team. The chance Real will draw Milan is 50%.

Or what about Valencia, Arsenal, Roma and Lokomotiv.

That leaves Barcelona, Inter, Leverkusen and Basel for the easy group...

What ever the draw says on Friday we're in for some fantastic football. Only Liverpool and Bayern are lacking but hey - we've got THE MIGHTY Basel who are this years Leverkusen.

If we get Inter then we will avoid Ajax, which means:

United
Inter
Deportivo
Moscow/Basel

If we get Juve then we can still get Ajax:

United
Juve
Deportivo
Moscow/Basel/Ajax

I don't know what to hope, but if we get Ajax then i think we will have a lot of fun in the transfer talk forum.. we'll get a fashion show of Ajax at OT. Our fans can now drool for these players like RVDV and Chivu up close and personal. Can't wait!
 
At least Arsenal will have an even tougher group, their guarenteed Roma plus one of Real/Barca/Valencia
 
These are all going to be tough groups. Bit like our group in 98/99 when we had Barça and Bayern.

Great for football. Remember those two 3-3 thrillers with Barça? Fantastic!

This draw is going to be fun. I can see some shuffling having to be done.

For example, if Arsenal get drawn against Real Madrid, then they can't as Roma have already been in a first phase group with Real, and they can't go into another group as they can't play another Italian team so have to play Arsenal. So, Arsenal would have to be swapped with one of the other Italians and then Roma placed into that group too.

So, Arsenal and Roma can only get Barça or Valencia.

Castellón, which is 70km North of Valencia.

Yes I do. I go to see either Valencia or Villareal normally twice a month, and I've been to watch United play Valencia twice and once to Deportivo last year.

I don't bother with Castellón, being in Segunda B. We have got the European Champions of Futsal (indoor football) though. <a href="http://www.uefa.com/competitions/FutsalCup/News/Kind=128/newsId=18556.html" target="_blank">Viva Castellón</a> ;)

It won't be much of a draw, will there? :rolleyes:

I love the UEFA draws (is that the word?), much better than the dull FIFA affairs which takes forever and are very understandable. Ok, the UEFA rules are understandable too but for most people the draw will be a very confusing affair.

Not Deportivo again, we have already played them 4 times! I am pleased to see us in Pot 1 with the other Spanish sides and do Valencia really have a good record in the Champions League with a Coeff. of 106.233, I would have thought it would be Ajax and Milan with better Coeff.'s but probably got to do with the last five years.

I am an AJAX supporter, and I really want to be in this group! Against U guys it would be a great match! And in my opinion we have a good chance against you, especially when you guys keep struggling with you form. Deportivo is not impossible for us, if we play good we could defeat them and Juventus would be the most difficult for us. The way they play is difficult for AJAX.....

But this would be the best group for us. With other big clubs and nothing to lose for us....

THERE ARE NO EASY GAMES IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE.

Liverpool, Arsenal and Man United all found this out. Luckily we had the sense to qualify first, then take it easy.

The last time we had one like that, we won the thing. I don't think that's a coincidence. A tough group gets the players' minds ready for battle.
