Champions League 24/25 | Matchday 4: November 5-6 (Amorim vs 115 charges)

Eventually we'll play someone good and be forced out of cruise control.

Leverkusen hadn't lost an away game for 32 games straight and tonight with Ex Liverpool player as manager Xabi Alonso they rolled over to get their bellies rubbed.

Unbelievable stuff from Celtic. Some of the best football I've seen. Kuhn and Reo Hatate were sensational

If Amorim can get that kinda running out of the current United squad they'll be a big threat.

Grats to the Sporting fans here, after half an hour took over the game completely and best team by a mile.

The change in CL format still not sure if its a good or bad thing.
In a way the table looks interesting with it being so tight for top 8 and some unexpected clubs up there.

The downside you'd say is City on 7 points for 4 games, Real on 6, Bayern on 3-6 would be in trouble any other season.
In previous seasons all 3 teams would be in trouble but with 4 to play this season and 24 qualifying teams it feels like they're under no pressure.

For City its clear to see teams are just targeting Rico Lewis now. The kid can't defend and everyone knows it.

Serves him right for sitting there saying "didn't think it'd be this easy".

The arrogance.
I thought when the co-commentator said that it was chopsy as hell but I'd forgotten since I didn't realise who it was at the time. God that makes it sweeter.

Ancelotti will be gone soon.

Whos gonna get Alonso first, city or Madrid?
I'd put my money on Madrid as there's no way Lord Pep will leave mid season, and Carlo will probably be sacked in the not too distant future if things stay as they are.

I think it's excellent. There are multiple great games every week and more jeopardy for the big clubs. In a format which includes clubs which aren't 'Champions', this is the best way to do it.

Thought the first half was pretty close but by the second they Levekusen players looked absolutely gassed. They don't have the squad to compete on three fronts this season.

Every round so far has had a handful of really interesting matchups. Not sure if that's just coincidence though.
I'm grateful for this new format. We would probably get a spanking at the Etihad. They would be out for revenge.

Yup there seems to have been both more trashings and more upsets which is kinda cool. But its like even with the upsets the pressure still isn't on the big teams.
Not to say they're taking it easy or anything but theres a huge feeling for now at least of a lack of trouble from losing.

I don't feel that jeopardy though. Maybe its cause of the fallback of 24 qualifiers. Bayern, Real and City should all be in trouble but it feels like "Oh that can't happen too often." as opposed to "We have to really be on it now". Bayern maybe being the exception. Jury is still out for me.

Bad spell for City. Obviously not the same team without ballon d'or Rodri. Still a hugely surprising result.

Madrid losing at home to Milan is only a mild upset for me. They are that bad this season. Ancelotti deserves the sack tbh.

That is jeopardy though. Nobody wants to play two extra games, especially the PL sides.

yep, same

they made it so I'd even be backing United to progress if they were in it (finishing 24th of course), there's even less tension for the big teams

To be fair though, no big team will want that dreaded playoff round. Especially when it looks like it might be against another big team. We could easily have a Real vs Bayern playoff at this point which I'd say is jeopardy.

I am liking the new format so far. Less dead rubber games. It must be smarting for a team like Real to barely make top half in a league of 36 teams. By tomorrow they will likely be bottom half.

This thread reads like The Spain 1 - 5 Holland match thread when the caf knew Van Gaal was joining United

Good performance but yeah the result flatters them a bit. But the fact that a Portuguese team can beat City 4-1 is to be celebrated.
