Celebrity Allegations, #MeToo etc

Here is the thing that I sometimes wonder about men like him. Is this behavior something that they always had inside them and came to surface due to their position of power or was their position of power something that enabled them to think this kind of behavior is somewhat normal?

What I mean is that I think people like Weinstein encounter far to many people who are willing to offer sexual favors for getting a leg up in the showbiz.

Of course that doesn't excuse him forcing himself on women who were clearly not interested in this kind of "offering".

I think men like this: Weinstein, Savile, religious leaders etc chose those careers due to the power and opportunity it gives them to abuse their sexual targets.

Anyone remember the actress who played Gloria Trillo in the Sopranos?

It's a horrible story.

There's a good article in the New Yorker in which Sciorra talks about what happened to her, her state of mind then and now, and her reluctance to go public in a very sympathetic way. It certainly made me see things slightly differently.

If this guy escapes going to jail the justice system doesn't work.

Looks like Kevin Spacey is next. Special mention to the worst coming out statement of all time.

What a dickhead. Comes out of his closet to deflect the allegations about him.

Again, the reaction seems to be different depending on the gender of the person assaulted. The contemporary reaction to Corey Feldman was to have Barbara Walters shut him down and nothing much was said about it after that, until years later. Harry Styles grabbed at a concert by a fan, the website TMZ actually questioned where the 'asked for it', language that would have rightly sent the internet into an apoplectic rage if that was a female performer to whom a similar thing happened. Now there's someone who comes forward and says that Spacey was sexually inappropriate with him whilst he was 14 years old and it's all: "Oooh, Spacey's come out!"

Massive pink, blotchy, snoring, farting elephant in the room is that sexually abusing men, even if they're children (as is the case in two of these examples) for some reason is viewed by society as 'not as bad'.

To this end I fully expect Spacey's career will continue. Unless he's subsequently shown to have abused a woman then he'll be back for the next series of House of Cards.

Can't find it on twitter now but a writer for the huffington post pretty much said the same and that theres likely to be more people coming forward about Spacey.

Still can't believe top level publicists, managers, agents etc. all got together and came up with that statement.

There are very human beings I loathe more at this moment.

This snivelling piece of shit because he's scared to face backlash as a creep/predator decided to come out to deflect the issue, despite the fact that he's literally had ample chances to come out over the past 20 years, but didn't and claimed "private life".

Gay people have been struggling for decades to end the gay=pedophilia/'preying on young boys' tag that conservatives and christians have helped perpetuate, but this moron decides to once again shift the conversation to that, by attempting to use his coming out to cover his abuse of a 14-year old, thereby conflating the two.

I wish him nothing but misery for the rest of his existence, prick.

I've always been surprised that Spacey was so closeted when he had ample opportunity to be an open bisexual in an accepting environment. As you say he has now re-established a spurious link between consensual alternative sexuality and paedophilia that is so damaging.

If this truly was a "one-off" during a drunken episode then it can be forgiven but if the cases start mounting up then you have to say he is trying to protecting himself by wrapping himself in the rainbow flag and that is pretty vile behaviour.

I have two friends who have told me similar stories about Spacey, bizarrely. One in Edinburgh and another in South Africa. With zero showbiz connections I imagine this must be another ‘open secret’ for those who actually work in his vacinity.

I guess it's only a matter of time before the Bryan Singer stuff gets another airing.

Hollywood is the modern day equivalent of Sodom and Gomorrah. Can't say I'm surprised it's burning itself to the ground.

Presumably Rapp alerted the relevant authorities prior to contacting BuzzFeed.

Because trial-by-media is never healthy.

it's hard to filter out some of the latent homophobia in these types of reports about Singer. The activities that might happen when a group of gay men get together might get written up with salacious detail whereas similar heterosexual activities are happening every Friday night across the country.

i can remember going to nightclubs in Manchester in the late 80's and early 90's and there were a couple of girls who had been getting into nightclubs since they were 13. I remember they fixated on me for a couple of weeks but i gave them a wide berth because i could not be sure what their actual age was.

I'm not sure why there is much surprise over Spacey's comment, it's the only thing he could have done.

Saying, "I don't remember what happened 30 years ago, but if it happened I'm sorry" raises scrutiny on his sexuality. For example, I may or may not have snogged some random (consenting) chick at a bar 5 years ago. I absolutely did not snog some random bloke at a bar 5 years ago. Because I'm not gay.

Notable to observe that he didn't victim blame. It was a carefully crafted statement. It wasn't the best time to come out, but when is?

If more people come out against Spacey then I'll reconsider this stance. Otherwise if we're crucifying him on one accusation, then fecks sake.

Hard for me to not imagine Spacey turning to the camera, disdaining the stupid public ala House of Cards.

Edit: On bolded. He could have just shut the entire feck up. Purely from a self-preservation basis, regardless of whether he did it or not. Just shut the feck up. I'm surprised this isn't part of Public Relations 101.

Glad to see Spacey is getting some heat. The things I've heard about his behaviour - it's been known for years and years - and borders on criminal (which I won't repeat here as I don't want the Caf having any legal issues etc, unless of course a victim or one of the many victims come out and speak about this).

Not sure how many peeps here pay attention to the goings on with child actors etc but it's not pretty. Watch "An Open Secret" and you will get the gist. It's only available on line as no distributor would touch it. It should still be up somewhere. The last time the exec producers streamed on line, it then mysteriously 'disappeared' . If any of you get the chance to watch it please do. Heartbreaking.

It did get an airing, but he came through it and it was all swept away. His accuser was discredited - however, the goings on with Singer, Marc Collins-Rector etc happened i.e. parties with questionably aged young boys. Michael Egan (the accuser) could not provide sufficient evidence irrespective, and so Singer was not prosecuted.

Despite having the Kardashians intravenously for yonks, I know nothing of these showbiz scandals, especially about Spacey. What's been rumoured?

Will PM you the gist of it.

Yeah, before this was revealed wouldn't have had a clue there was anything sketchy about Spacey at all.

Yeah. If this was a one-off, the statement is okay. But if he's got form, his best course is to keep his head down. Defending himself only invites others to come forward.

Someone out of his past reads that statement and says: "The lying prick!" And opens Twitter.

Oh bloody hell hadn't realised all the PM Requests!:D Don't know, if you will believe or not but will copy paste and send you what I sent to Stevie.

The Cafe - occupying the moral high ground since 1999. :D
I don't do moral high ground I'm too much a sinner:( It would be hypocritical.

However watch the documentary "An Open Secret". Listen to the boys tell their stories.

He should have just left it with the statement of not remembering it but apologizing if it did happen. There was really no reason to go on about his sexuality, which at the end of the day is not the issue. Whether he had done this to a 14 year old girl, boy, or some other gender the issue does not change.
