[Castles] Maguire has indicated to #mufc that he would like an English-born/speaker defender

The news, genuine or otherwise, comes from Ian McGarry, rather than Duncan Castles, as is clear if you listen to the podcast. 26 mins 8 secs is the starting point.

While both of them are typically critical of United, in this particular podcast, Castles gives a relatively balanced assessment of United's approach towards their recent Football Director and Technical Director appointments, then insight on Eric Bailly being offered a new deal and Maguire's lack of pace preventing United from adopting a different style of defending. Castles also makes clear that he doesn't rate Solskjaer in the slightest and considers the decision to spend £80m on Maguire to be a big mistake.

Personally, I am deeply sceptical of the idea that United are going to spend heavily in the summer on a CB, especially given the number of clean sheets we have had against the top teams. We have a huge number of scouts, so of course they will be doing their job, looking at possible options, should we decide that we have to buy.

I could learn to say “turn around” in 20 different languages in the time it takes this lump to actually turn on the pitch.

Seems more of a headline designed to bash Maguire than anything else. Last I checked the captain doesn't sign the players.

Its Duncan Castle, he is just a WUM and a shit journalist.

If it was Jose who signed Maguire, he would have twisted this into how great Maguire is citing all sort of stats that back up his point. That's why he shouldn't be taken seriously. He is Jose's mouthpiece and PR guy rather than a journalist.

FFS, saw "maguire" in the title and thought he wanted out of the club

I wish we could sell the most useless captain in the history of United.

Finally Maguire realized that his level is that of Brighton and he should be paired with Ben White.

Beyond the initial over reaction, this probably is sensible. Fostering togetherness and communication is something a captain must do.

if true, it’s a bit rich coming from the least vocal ‘captain’ on the pitch who can barely string two words together himself.

I can understand why we might want that.
it is quite important to be able to speak to your coworkers, especially the bloke stood 10 yards from you

If I was Maguire I’d want to clarify this, it sounds types of wrong.
Why though United or United players don't respond to transfer rumours or completely made up shit in this case and it's the right way to go about it.

About 24 hours late to make a thread on this obvious bollocks. As Utd fans we shouldn't be giving this sort of crap the attention it craves. Stories like this are put out to cause division and unrest in the fanbase by using the name of a player who already divides opinion.

Bizarre how people will jump at the chance to pope on our best centre back. Clearly a shit source and clearly nonsense, but don’t let that get in the way of a bit of good ol’ Harry bashing

Swedes and scandinavians are in general some of the best to speak the english language. Sometimes better at spelling it than american/english people too.

Lazy scumbag clickbait article with undertones of racism/nationalistic notes if you ask me.

English-speaking or English-born defender to play alongside

> Bailly speaks English, Lindelof speaks English, Phil Jones speaks English

The feck is baldy on about?

He wants Mings doesn’t he? How much English culture did Stam & Vidic have?

The player that embodies the United culture is Portuguese ffs.I hope these quotes aren’t true. The guy infuriates me.

Clickbait

said in another thread, IF this was an actual thing then it’s been taken out of context. It’s not absurd that the captain was asked his opinion about possible targets and said something about just making sure they can communicate in English, not as an insult to anyone but just to save on communication issues between the defence. We’ve been linked to numerous foreign defenders

See below. Chill out and think about it

Dont forget Utds transfer policy. Look local first, then british isles then europe. Clubs look at all sorts of players, much of which doesn't make the press. Utd doing their due diligence by assessing the young british CBs. No harm in that. Good to compare to the best of young europe CBs.
van de Beek, Diallo, Telles, Pellistri, Cavani.

I don't get it.

If these are his true feelings, then Nigel Farage is the ideal candidate to partner him.

Calm down, this wasn't from Castles (who does have some sources), it was Ian McGarry (who is at best a 12th tier journo). I'd imagine there's nothing in this if McGarry is peddling it. He doesn't even write for a newspaper any more as far as I know. His stories are always the the type that are impossible to check...

If it was true then you would be right to be worried.
