You are telling me this is really happening? We are really signing a CDM? And not only that but probably the best one in the world right now? Holy fecking shit.
I still cant believe it. I still expect news its of.

yeah has to play for me, can't go in with the same options, however poor they've looked as well
He will need a visa as well, which even if the deal is officially announced today, won't get sorted until midweek at the earliest. I think we'll be lucky if he can play against Southampton the following weekend, never mind against Pool.

So get the Liverpool game called off is what you're saying?

No, there’s a system in place where players meeting certain criteria can breeze through if memory serves, games played in the last X years at certain levels. He easily would pass any test like that.

Still, any government business has to wait till Monday if the contracts get signed today.

That's the work permit. The visa is a different story, isn't it? Brexit means Brexit and all that

Casemiro would be absolutely sensational...

It will give you so much more options in how to balance your midfield (even more so than if Frenkie alone would come) using Fred, Eriksen, DVB next to him while Bruno plays 10, because Casemiro can play as a lone 6...

And yet the people are still unhappy. What a signing! From McFred to Casemiro. Just get one more functional midfielder (Tielemans?) and we’ll be laughing.

I am not sure this will make a huge impact on the team, not if we don't get CM next to him that can carry the ball. FDJ would be the dream.

Bruno/Eriksen - Casemiro - FDJ

On paper, top 5 midfields in the world, maybe top 3, specially if Bruno could find the form he had the first 6 months here and those two would help him a lot.

It actually makes it easier, weirdly. Well it’s not that weird really, they’ve made it easier for the top of the tree to get folk who are already successful, it’s players who aren’t a big deal yet that it’s become almost impossible to sign up without really long boring due process.

Players are basically hand waved by the government if the Premier League recommends them to (and there’s no criminal records or whatever)

This transfer is typical of United under the Glazers. It feels like we never learn. Yes, we may be filling a need for a DM but buying a 30year old midfielder on huge wages and transfer fee when he is likely to start losing his athleticism in 2 years is not the answer. Plus he is likely to be less motivated at UTD as he has fulfilled a lot in his career already. When most top clubs aside from Barcelona are targeting younger players, we're still chasing older players still leaving us having to go into the market for a long term solution in 3 years time. This transfer actually disgusts me as it is symptomatic of the Glazers trying to chase 'glamour' players when they're under pressure. We should be looking at players like Kouadio Kone and Moses Caciedo for the defensive midfielder role, young players who are on the cusp of breaking out and will come cheaper on wages too. I don't know who to blame more, the Glazers or Murtough

Would be a fantastic signing. Don't even care about his age. He's in his prime and like others have said, players last longer these days. We need quality and we need it now. Hopefully Garner can succeed him and if not we have time to find a solution for the future.

You have to think that some of the players who might have turned their nose up at us a few weeks ago, will look a Casemiro and think more positive about joining us now.

Of all stupid and panic buys we have done, I don't consider this one such as that. Finally a proper dmf, his age doesn't worry me at all. Does he speak english?

Almost like we should’ve done this earlier

At least it's a panic buy in the right position for once. Credit to EtH for finally seeing our DM problems.

I would rather Eriksen play deeper than Fred or McT. He is more than capable of playing that role. I don’t want Fred or McT starting in league games unless there is an injury.
I would rather have Fred in front of Casemiro, most likely on the left with Eriksen on the right.
Going back to the point - I see a lot of posts like yours on the Caf and I do not understand how playing Eriksen deeper is better than having him higher up the pitch. I would rather have him in Bruno role than in midfield so it's very weird so many people suggest putting him in deep midfield, Casemiro or no Casemiro.

He's a better signing than FDJ, and i really wanted him as well. But Casemiro would make the team so much more balanced. He would provide a base for everything to be built off. One of the most infuriating things about it is with how quickly it's been done, we should've got it done before Pre Season started.

At the start of the window, everyone wanted a 6, we've now very nearly got the best one out there.

I would be happy seeing a player like Garner or Iqbal in the team alongside Casemiro and Eriksen. Quality veteran presence in the middle along with the younger lads on occasion will do wonders for them.

Caicedo has played a grand total of TEN PL games and you already want us breaking the bank for him?
Never heard of that Kone fella you`re saying but people had this same logic with Soumare when he went to Leicester
And as far as I can tell Makelele joined Chelsea from Madrid at a similar age and completely changed the DM role. Fernandinho experienced the best form of his City career betweeen age 31-34 under Pep. Casemiro has a similar mileage level as Fernandinho and a proven winner. We need a mixture of young upcoming players AND players who`ve been there and done that especially in midfield where we seriously lack bite

Very basic. But he understands it well enough so that ETH won't have a problem. He won't understand a word of Manc though.
Lots of Spanish and Portuguese speakers in the club so he'll be fine

Most importantly, this signing could be a massive tempter for Antony to kick up a fuss at Ajax refusal to sell him, and it’s gonna be much more tempting for FdJ to look at joining a midfield alongside Casemiro than McTominay.

Could be such a huge signing in many ways.

Out of all the links to players since Brentford, this was the one that I thought was the most farfetched. If we manage to pull this off then it will be a huge coup for us given our current situation.

Going from no DM to arguably the best in the world over the past few years would be absolutely ridiculous. He's a leader and will give the midfield some physicality which is so desperately needed.

Casemiro is a top player and more needed than FDJ imo. The only negative thing is the fee for a 30 year old which we will need to replace in 2 years. However we are in such a mess that bringing him or no one seems like an easy choice.

I know you're right just feel like Madrid mugging us off, getting tchouameni for 50m selling the other guy other 60m

If it can reasssure you, they didn't get Tchouaméni for 50m.

This thread makes grim reading for us 30 Year olds. I now know I'm absolutely finished.

wouldn't worry bout it, the people who are slating because of age no doubt sit in a pair of y fronts, eating shite and smoking while calling someone in peak fitness.

I won't lie at first I was not too keen on signing a 30 yrs old midfielder who according to some Real fans has his best days behind him. Especially after having been sure we can get de Jong before this whole saga turned into a complete joke.

Not with the deal being imminent I start getting excited. Even if this might be more of a short term fix for the next 2 years or so he might be absolutely integral for stabilizing our defensive play and how we play out from the back.
This also means no more Eriksen as 6 so with these two top class players we should find a good formation with anyone of Bruno, Donny, McTominay or Fred. We still need to sort out the defense and get a quality attacker, otherwise we will continue being shit.
