Casemiro | United Player

Ordinarily I don't think this would be the smartest business but we're not in a position to be squabbling over what's smart right now. The manager needs some players who are capable of doing a job, whether that's short, medium or long term.

When the current lot of owners are gone then we can worry about getting our house in order with recruitment but right now we just need to see some money spent on the team. Initially I didn't think we had a prayer and Casemiro was another name being thrown around to give off the impression we're trying to do something. If there's actually a realistic chance of getting it done and he's open to the move, I'm not even that worried about the numbers involved anymore. We need to salvage whatever we can from this season.

He's been one of those Brazilians with the most consummate attitude around so hopefully he's gonna keep that drive to succeed when he comes .

I am so confused by his post. Sancho and Martinez are young and Varane was just 28 and should be playing at the top level for at least 5 more years. What exactly is long term? and how do these not fit into that line of thinking?

The best teams tend to blend experience and younger players and those 3 cover all of those bases, especially when you look at our squad and see a squad who have experience of winning nothing and a captain who is used to relegations more than trophies!

People moan about literally every possible signing, it is exhausting to think too deeply about the moaning. (Ironic comment from me considering my long response here!)

Agree, CR7 in SAF era was a long term planning, then what's happened!? He gave his best and peak time to RM.

They are all midfielders that can't pass the ball reliably, struggle to progress play and shit their pants under pressure. We need both roles as much as the other, one because our midfielders are defensively weak and the other because they are technically and mentally weak.
The thing is, Casemiro isn’t the most press resistant player or best passer out there. Real have Modric and Kroos for that.
Who besides Eriksen offers that at United?

Fredemiro, let's make it happen.

I'm starting to believe we might actually pull this off, I laughed at the notion just yesterday.

You appear to be conflating role and position. The fact is we have players for every position on the park, apart from a holding, defensive midfielder for a single pivot in a 4-3-3 or 4-1-4-1 or 4-4-2 diamond. That isn't really De Jong's position; he doesn't want to be holding. He can do it, but ideally you don't want to hamstring him with that responsibility. Casemiro right now makes a lot more sense to fill that gap, which then, without signing anyone else, allows you to dispense with McFred and get at least one of Eriksen or Donny in team to play in midfield with the ball. We can still look to sign a good playmaker regardless, but the vast majority would be better for Casemiro's presence anyway.

If we could find a way to pair Casemiro with FDJ, that would be an incredible transformation of our midfield. Wishful thinking, I know.

Doesn't it translate directly to "he's using us to get better contract at Real"?
He signed a new one last summer, and with their recent recruitment isn't in a position to demand another.
This is most likely the biggest offer he'll get from here on in his career. Madrid would only begin to phase him out for the younger midfielders (even though he's still ahead now). He could stay at Madrid for say the next two years but he wouldn't be getting a double your money offer by then so its tempting.
He's won it all at Madrid so we offer him a new challenge.

I agree, which is why I said that Casemiro isn't and wasn't a better fit than De Jong. We really need both profiles.

No they didn't. The credible journalists said that United wouldn't pursue a deal for so long if they weren't encouraged. They didn't have it on any authority that Frenkie wanted the move, but were guestimating theslves.

You're basically making a mother of assumptions to have a reason to mug off Frenkie, which is a bit silly. He never wanted to come here and that's been consistent. What outlets guesstimated is something else, that's not remotely close to the actual preference or even for us to insinuate one.

Have you been living under a rock? There were many journalists that said we'd been given assurances.

Now I'm wondering if you're just on the WUM. No way you missed all those tweets and articles.

Nope.

HERE is why Ten Hag wants Casemiro:

You've literally outlined the plan.

You'd hope so. There's no basis to beleive they think that far ahead - where's the succession plan for Ronaldo?

However, if his anchoring of midfield for those three years gave us Top 4 finishes, the money would have been a wise gamble. We'd then have three years of being able to offer players CL football to build an appropriate squad to replace him afterwards.

Fair enough. I'd take that.

I also thought Varane that of Varane and Ronaldo though

Hope we don’t delay till the end and just pay what real wants and close this deal.

I've scraped all the tier one credible journalists and theyve been careful in their wording. The consistent news out of Barcelona is that he never wanted to join us, so I'm not sure why you're peddling some other silly narrative.

I love that his compilation video is just about him tackling in midfield. Exactly what we need.

Sorry, I missed your first comment since I didn’t read back a lot. And I absolutely agree with you. A midfield of Casemiro, Eriksen and Bruno is unbalanced and Casemiro will get pressed and United fans will wonder how he looked so good at Real.

Remember what Ralf Rangnick said about signing players after their last big contract?

Here we are, making the same mistakes yet again
Yeah we fired that fecking no mark because he was talking a little too much sense. Disneyland United is back, baby!

Such a mistake signing a world class player. I am devastated.

Just bossed the scousers around in the CL final 3 months ago and fits a poistion we have desperately needed, which we got reminded about these first 2 matches of the season. Guess these are people that wanted Declan Rice for 140m

Thats why this signing won't work out unless you add players who give you quality on the ball to compensate for what Casemiero doesn't have.

This is why we want him. Look at him just seductively smirking at Verratti. Ball progression? Press resistant? feck all that noise. He’s here to slide tackle and chew bubblegum. And Ancelotti took his last hubba bubba.

I'm conflating nothing. We need both as much as the other.

Ain’t it mad how we could be signing someone we never thought we would be as you can tell we only have 56 pages in this thread. But de Jong has over 1500 pages and we haven’t even got close to signing him

Wasn't he just repeating what Neville and Scholes have been saying? Except the part where he wanted to replace the entire XI because he couldn't get results if his life depended on it

Exactly! Like this de Jong guy at Barca or a similar profile. United supporters that expect Casemiro to be the savior will be in for a surprise

Yeah and half the caf

If ever you were looking for evidence of our non-sensical, scattergun transfer strategy...
