We'd be stupid to sell Casemiro during a year in which the World Cup will add pressure on our playing squad. I feel Camavinga (19) would be wasted at DM and he could be a lovely mobile B2B midfielder, similar to Valverde who exploded at the age of 20-21. You can have Casemiro in the 2024/25 season.
Also - I hate how people have increased his age over the last 5-6 pages. He is 30 .. not 31, 32 or too old.

Anyone can flop. But some signings carry more risk than others, both in terms of how likely they are to flop and how much damage will be done if they do.
And signing a 30 year old DM who depends on physicality on a ludicrously over-inflated contract in the final weeks of a transfer window in which we've targeted entirely different types of midfielders is an extremely high risk prospect.
And while we might not have signed players who were legitimately the best in the world in their position before, we've signed plenty of players who posters on here convinced themselves were still among the best in the world in their position, often while making the exact same argument you just did.

This summer has been a complete failure I think everyone will agree to that, it’s too late now for a quick fix do we’re in panic mode. Paying Casemiro 400k a week over 5 years is not the right thing going forward I know that 100%.
Id try and buy a Tielemans or somebody to keep us going until January and in these next few months on sounding out a second midfielder to sign either then or for next summer.

Add to that he’s only joining for the money, who in the hell is leaving Madrid for us. He then he has to adapt to a different league and culture. I’m not having it, this has disaster written all over it.

Casemiro is not coming into a well defined system or team though. Even if he comes we still don't know what the best 11 is.
Also, he's a good player but he's playing alongside Modric and Kroos two absolutely outstanding players who can make good players look great. We don't have that.
Now Cas is a good player but we need more than him and he needs more than what we currently have. Bruno with his god-awful erratic passing, Eriksen isn't as energetic as he once was, Fred is so-so and the less said about McTom the better.
If we sign Casemiro good, though I obviously have my doubts, but you need to put him alongside similar class.

The length of the contract is [too] long, but the premium for him (or anyone of that calibre) coming here in our predicament is par for the course. This is fairly argued the best DM on the planet - I don’t know which position on the pitch you can get the best in the world to come here and not expect to pay out of the arse for it (actually, another player who is the best in the world is not likely to come here). That’s the consequence of being what we are.
Tielemans isn’t a DM, we’re extremely leaky through midfield - do you think he is a better solution to that than a player who unlocks so many others around him? You’d expect a giant jump in performance from our CB’s and our midfield with Casemiro anchoring it. In isolation, you don’t think this is a needs must kind of signing (should it go ahead)?

I admire anyone's optimism that the Glazers will bring in more quality players after Casemiro, if it goes through that is.

We need an experienced winner. We cannot ask a young player to stabilise the sieve that is our central midfield.

No one doubts Casemiro quality. Giving him 5 years deal on high salary will be ultimate stupidity that'll be cost us a lot. He's 30 years old, for feck sake. Anything more than 30m and 3 years contract will be Real Madrid robbing us again.
I like the player and I’m not even bothered about the huge wage…it’s the 5 years that have me concerned. We’d do well to get 3 solid years that will take him to almost 34 we don’t need a 36 year old on 400k a week is my concern.
3 year contract and I’m all in. He won’t sign a 3 year deal though because the only real thing we can offer someone in his position is a massive contract.
Salah just signed a new deal with Liverpool for 3 years. Who in the world offers a 31 year old a 5 year contract.
