If the rest of our team was strong and functional and all we needed was a DM, he'd be great. But with so many weak areas I can't help but feel signing a 30 year old for a huge fee would turn out to be a waste.

So we sign no one cause we don't have a strong and functional team? That's a bit backwards way of thinking isn't it? How do we improve without signing quality?

Who's to say we won't also? EtH wants two midfielders
I just can’t see us spending big on two midfielders.. I think one will be the big signing (£50m-£70m) and the other will be a Rabiot type signing which will obviously be a gamble.

Some of the budget still needs to be used for a forward, a RB and apparently a backup GK.

Think he'd be quite useless for us. All this talk of best holding midfielder of all time is rubbish. He is perfect for Real and the qualities they have in their team.

Just a year on from signing the most recent ageing Real Madrid reject we're apparently going to try and do it again? When will we learn?

Madrid are remaking their midfield and Casemiro may well feel inclined to move for a final pay day if they are willing to let him go. I get the impression he is close with Fred and presumably has a decent relationship with Varane too so he might feel encouraged to try something new with familiar faces around him. I can see a scenario in which this does happen but it still seems far fetched and I can't help thinking Madrid would not want to leave themselves so light in midfield this close to the window.
Thanks for reply. Maybe give them McT so they aren’t short.

He's far from a reject. He's a vital part of their squad

It was said the same about Varane. Players that age is a complete lottery on how long they can still play
But Varanes price reflected his injury record. Casemiro doesn’t have that

I hate this type of deals. Rangnick actually spoke about this too, spending a lot of money in this age profile. Madrid spent it on Tchuameni who willost likely give them a decade of service including his peak and we are paying that much for about 4 years of service which will be Casemiro's peak and decline.
It's been reported that ETH and Rangnick had difference in transfer ideas, hence the reason for Rangnick not commencing his post.

It's very clear that we see Rangnick preferred the young & aggressive footballer with potential, but ETH prefers a senior established one.

Calling a Ballon D'Or shortlisted player that is currently an integral part of a league and European title winning squad a reject is some galaxy brain take

I really don't want him when all the noise is "open to doubling his wages if he joins and he's already won everything so what does it matter anymore"

He’s won it all so he wont want to win anything more, ever.
His quota is done. It’s finished

I like Casemiro a lot but for big money it makes no sense, he will start declining sooner rather than later.

Why did we not go on for Bissouma or one of the other multitude of young DMs that have transferred recently? Just makes no sense.

He's a world class player and we're desperate af but not sure it makes sense to spend that much on him.

Real have Casemiro, Kroos, Modric, Camavinga, Tchouameni and Valverde competing for 3 spots.

I almost wonder if its worth putting in a loan offer for Valverde for a season instead.

Does the apex player in his position just stop caring; is he of that character? All you hear from Madrid fans is he’s an exemplary individual and guiding light for others in their squad. Their logic on selling him is getting maximum value for him, nothing about him being on the slide.

Financially, what would you possibly expect? It’s going to take serious, serious financial incentives for him to come here, is that beyond the pale or something?

Their young guys are untouchables

Some people on here will literally never be satisfied with our targets. Too old, too young, too expensive, not experienced enough, won it all all so not motivated, not won anything, too small, too tall, mercenary etc etc. Would love to see a list of targets that some of you guys have!!

I was told Rice would transform our side, so if Casemiro can't...

True, but I wonder how much game time Valverde will get this season. I think he played as a defensive winger for most of his appearances last season despite being a deep midfielder. A loan offer with a tempting loan fee could sway Real.

A nice mini embarrassment compared to the 1600 page one.

He's not attainable. We need to be realistic. In that position I'd prefer to go with Makele. He's 49 now but could easily gives 4-5 yrs as he keeps fit.

He would cost too much and won’t solve our problems on his own. Also last thing we need is motivating players with big money offers.

If United pay €70-80M for Casemiro they will be digging his grave even more.
Will Casemiro make the difference to enter the top-4? No.
The only thing United will do is raise the wage bill absurdly for a 30-year-old player who won't change anything.

It will be Varane 2.0

Wrong. He would be an sensational signing. Don’t believe this just yet.

For me, he is the best dm in the world.

Varane was a vital part of the Real Madrid team, and had not had any substantial injuries for many years. I'm not sure where people get the idea that he was a "reject" or some kind of trick that was pulled on Manchester United.

Jason Burt should drop a tier after this transfer window, been an absolute cnut

How on earth can it be that reliable English journos say we're in for him at 12pm - including Ornstein - and at 5pm, it is completely shot down?

I don't know. Anyone would think they were just making it up.

It all feels a bit immaterial because I doubt either of them are interested at all, but you're right that if we are going to offer mental money for any of their midfielders, it should be Valverde.

I just feel now more than ever that offering idiotic money for an aging player playing for their last contract is not the right way to go. We're going nowhere fast, you can make a case for experienced players but not when it's eating up all of your budget.
