£70mil for a 30yr old and we talk about Man City buying the league!! We’ll literally take anyone who shows interest in joining. Real laughing all the way to the bank.

It’s mental to think these were just some of the posts in here 3 days ago when the news broke. Dont worry, I thought it was a load of bollocks too! But what a whirlwind few days!
To the point I'm starting to think it was pre-planned between United & Madrid. No other clubs in the race, no bigger comments from Perez, no price bumping, all smooth & fast... well, too smooth & too fast for my taste.

Marca did well on this.

Mate you didn't even know him the day before yesterday

i was being ironic. What I meant was he wasn’t even a target until we got desperate. Or do you believe the whole summer has been a smokescreen in the pursuit of casemero?

70-80 mil is a lot of a 30 year old, but what the hell. We're desperate and he's probably the best attainable midfielder out there right now and solves a massive problem.

We obviously wanted de jong as first choice. That we did the Casemiro deal so quickly probably suggests he was second choice. I'm guessing we'll go for the former again next year

Some posters will have their tails between their legs now!

@Chip @::sonny:: @#07 @Guapa @unplayable

Embarrassing lads!

Actually pleasantly surprised, which has become a bit of a rarity in following this club. Glad that the deal got done. Still a bit shocked. Despite the fact I have no faith in Murtough, I hope he lucks into another few top signings before deadline day.

He's probably the best DM right now.
What concerns me is that not going for a deep laying playmaker but a natural DM basically means we are throwing all preaseason learning new Ten Hag's philisophy and tactics in the bin. I hope there will be another CM this window but I highly doubt it.

Erikson can play DLP, even DVB

Looks likely there will be more business

He is a great signing but yet again highlights Utds inability to negotiate at even a competent level.

Didn't he play with a DM at Ajax?

Preseason is only what he could play with, not what he wanted. Think he has the right balance now, especially as we are so weak defensively

Fee is absolutely bonkers, and the more you think about it the more insane it feels. Which sadly just shows how desperate we are, so I hope at least he'll be an excellent player for us for a while.

Why?

Casemiro: What are Manchester United getting in Real Madrid midfielder?

"...If Erik ten Hag is to remain faithful to his high-pressure philosophy, with a high defensive line, then Casemiro's lack of pace will be exposed.

He lacks the ability to control the spaces behind him, primarily because he is quite slow on the turn. This could prove expensive against teams such as Arsenal and Manchester City, who play a lot of inside passes and find pockets of space.

Madrid's compact set-up disguised that weakness in Casemiro's game. With less quality around him in the Brazilian national side, he was less influential. That could be a problem with United when faced with teams that pressure high if he is expected to drive with the ball..."

I’m sure Casemiro won’t be the last man or pushing up without the defence pushing behind him

I don't think the fee is bonkers he's the best in the business and has years left in the tank. I don't see him as a clunky matic type athlete. 60m for 4 years for rm best dm is a good deal looking at the market right now. Unless I'm missing something about his condition.

Balague knows nothing about football. He knows nothing about transfers, but pretends he does and people believe it.

Basically if Ballague says something, believe the mirror opposite

Well the BBC has it up to £70 million. Which is more than 80 million euros, potentially. For a guy with little to no resale value, let that just sink in. That's more than Bayern recently paid for De Ligt who's 23 years old, and this type of fee would normally get you close to signing one of the best young midfielders in the world. And then there's Casemiro's wages, he has been an elite level performer but ultimately he still is a workhorse type of defensive midfielder, not a modern day Zinedine Zidane. I guess it was literally an offer so good that he and Real Madrid just couldn't sensibly refuse it.

Best case scenario for this transfer is that he's a good and solid but extremely expensive midfielder for us for a few years. Worst case scenario, I don't even want to think about it. We've literally spent over a billion during the last decade with a transfer succes rate of less than 20%. There was a part of me that hoped this madness would finally stop this summer, and it looked like it. But now we're just desperate and panicking and massively overpaying while the whole football world sees us as a laughing stock.

At the same time I'm torn, because at least we're bringing in a player who is an upgrade on what we have, which could make watching this season unfold much less soul destroying.

Ballbag can feck off. Doesn't have a clue and absolutely hates United and everything they do. If City/Liverpool/Arsenal sign Casemiro, it's a genius move by an enlightened manager who can do no wrong. If United do the same, they're paying over the odds for a player with a hundred weaknesses.

How the feck he ever conned the BBC or anyone else to write for them is beyond me.

I think we need him so much more than Frenkie. Happy to see the official announcement!

We definitely need both types of midfielders, surely we can find someone able to make those quick incisive passes and progress the ball.
