Carrington Update

Had i known they were going to charge £50m for a lick of paint and some new stud walls i would have done the job for £49m.

Shame this has been announced already as was waiting for the thread on whether you would trade the FA Cup win for an updated Carrington.

Some rich feckers on here flying around in airports like these in these pictures.

So the rumours we were looking at a new complex was horsecrap

No, we looked at the nearby golf course but I believe it was a no go.

£50m with Norman Foster involved to upgrade Carrington compared to £100m for the Leicester new build should be on par.

Well, la-di-fecking-da... What have we got here? A bunch of interior designers?

Norman Foster Pritzker Laureate (essentially equivalent to a Nobel prize in architecture) born in Stockport. His body of work includes:

Apple HQ,
The Gherkin,
Milau Viaduct,
The Reichstag,
Camp Nou.

To put this into context it cost Leicester £100m to build a brand new training ground from the ground up.

£50m to upgrade Carrington should get some real value out of the work.

There’s a theme here…. patiently review areas of the club that need improvement, balance need/cost v return then one by one, tick them off

Berrada, Wilcox, Ashworth, managerial position, OT, Carrington.

They may not be fan/media choice every time, but make your own decisions and don’t let the media know until you’ve decided.
We're being run like an actual club and not a play thing.

Does that not include land acquisition and building structures?

Yes. And Carrington already has things like a full sized indoor training pitch etc. To improve existing facilities by 50m, is a considerable upgrade, when you consider new structures don’t have to be built or land bought.

The best news that could come out this summer.

I'm certain better facilities will translate to better performances on the field.

Fantastic. For the negative nancy's on the forum - Liverpool built a whole new facility for 50M.

No, we are still assessing plots in the area then you need to design and build it which can take a long time, we desperately needed upgrades in the short term as well however and this is part of that.
Thank you for using some common sense.

Agreed. Struggling to even imagine what you could spend £50m on when majority of the building is already there.

£50m feels massive.

They are going to be refitting the gym and medical facilities, which will be substantial. As well as what sounds like a gut rehab of the first team building. There may also be some extension work going on. It’s all been designed by Norman Foster, so not exactly cheap.

I would expect it to be absolutely state of the art afterwards.

They've also designed quite a few airports hence the comparisons.

This means more to me than any signing ever could.

Every time I drive past the Etihad campus I can't help but admire everything about it. It's massive, has a multitude of pitches, close to the city centre, close to their stadium and is extremely private. A lot of City players (and club staff) live in luxury apartments in town whereas you will find that the majority of United players and staff live in the likes of Alderley edge, Hale, Bowdon, Prestbury etc etc. Jose was an anomaly in that he lived at the Lowry Hotel during his tenure with us.

There is so much land around Carrington and its logistically easier to access than the Etihad campus for everything from couriers, construction material deliveries, council permits etc. No excuses for not upgrading it.

Carrington has been completely neglected and one of the best things about Ronaldos second stint was him highlighting that.

The stadium is a pain in the arse for us fans but the training ground is more important for the players.

The only positive to come out of Ronaldo doing the interview with Piers Morgan

I’m sure INEOS would’ve done this regardless so I’m refusing to give him any credit. They talked to the players and they gave feedback about Carrington needing an upgrade.

This is all true. I don't think even the most deranged of Qatar-supporting-Internet fans could find fault with the progress made by the partial owners so far.

A new stadium is inevitable now and it's being done in partnership with the biggest players in the city region. A lot won't appreciate this, but it's actually a major, era-defining, development for Manchester, not just the football club they watch on TV.
