Good point.I dont think so because I think its highly likely that Ole himself would have started Donny tonight

Is Greenwood injured? Him on the right, Sancho on the left is Rashford is not ready
Defensive line is nothing to do with Maguire. I appreciate people think that because he's relatively slow but that's not the case, he is perfectly capable in a higher line and dropping him would not achieve your desired effect.
I was going off the bolder comment relating to dropping Maguire to enable us to play a high line. If that’s not what you meant apologies. This line up is based on fit and in form (relatively) players. No Varane as well.
I think there will some nickname made up for Carrick and it won't be pretty. Criticism has already started and he hasn't even had one game.Would love to see the reaction if the team is identical to one Ole puts out.
Yeah literally, some of our fans are the worst. Let’s hope he has a good few games before Poch or whoever takes over so the vultures here don’t start picking away at him.I think there will some nickname made up for Carrick and it won't be pretty. If he will have few good games you'll here them hoping it wont last long so it doesn't make the board give him a permanent job.Yeah literally, some of our fans are the worst. Let’s hope he has a good few games before Poch or whoever takes over so the vultures here don’t start picking away at him.
Acceptable other then Maguire.I would play
De Gea
AWB Maguire Lindelof Telles
Sancho VDB McTominay Greenwood
Bruno
Ronaldo
Two of your back 3 are absolute liabilities.Probably forced to play DVB cos of his performance and the fans reaction. I wouldn't be surprised if he goes 3 at the back.
I'm going:
De Gea
Lindelof Maguire Bailly
AWB Fred DVB Shaw
Bruno
Ronaldo Rashford/Sancho
I reckon he's more likely to go for Rashford than Sancho tbf to try and hit them on the counter.
Back to hoping the team lose for some.If he will have few good games you'll here them hoping it wont last long so it doesn't make the board give him a permanent job.
Tonight we'll know how much of a hand Ole had in the tactics and team selection.
That's a hell fecking no for me. I do not want to watch Sancho and Greenwood go yet another entire game without looking up and trying to cross to the best header of the ball in the world. By all means switch over for 5 or 10 minutes here and there but I can't watch that dumbness for another 90 mins.
If you start from the positives these last few games:
- De Gea in great form
- Lindelof largely free of the horrenduous individual mistakes that have marred all the other defenders the last few games
- the vd Beek-Sancho combination in the second half against Watford
...and factor in the negatives:
- Shaw and Wan-Bissaka clearly out of form and lacking confidence
- Maguire a horror show, and Bailly still making far too many errors of judgment
- Marcus Rashford obviously not yet back in form
- McTominay among the worst performers lately, and clearly not suited to a situation where the team as a whole is struggling and where he has to operate in an environment that lacks structure. That's hard for anyone, but reading defensive situations doesn't seem to be his forte in the first place.
- Matic with a number of very ugly mistakes against Watford
- Bruno clearly out of form
...you get:
De Gea in goal
On the full backs, choose your poison: Continue with LS/AWB, or take your chances with the rather unproven option of Telles and Dalot. Either choice is hoping against better judgment.
On CB, play Lindelof. Hard to tell which is a worse choice right now between Maguire and Bailly.
Midfield; Fred and Donny. By default, and in Donny's case because he's earned it.
Forward line; Sancho for sure. Bruno, probably, unless you think he's too emotionally burned up right now. If so, give Lingard a shot. He deserves it. On the left - again, no very clear good choice. Stick with Rashford, yet another chance for Martial, or gamble on Amad.
Striker: I don't think you'd want to leave Ronaldo out in your first game as caretaker, and in any case he's been magic in the CL.
This has worked well whenever it's been used, a total of two times. Not hugely surprising to see McFred is it? Pogba is injured. Matic doesn't really seem to be able to play twice a week. So it was either Fred, McTominay & Van De Beek or Fred, Van de Beek and Bruno.
In his presser Carrick said he knew "exactly how we would play tonight"! Not sure whether that's a good sign or not.I think we will see some changes. Not because he didn’t have large input before, but he now have to take responsibility. Something has to change.
Concussion protocol, came off against Watford.Shaw injured or dropped from the squad?
It's crazy. People genuinely seem to believe it's just a coincidence that we've had the exact same defensive issues across several very different managers and god knows how many defenders over the past decade, the vast majority of which are usually more than competent before they sign for us, after they leave us and with their international sides.
Concussion protocol, came off against Watford.
Speak up? It was his input! “Lack of tactics” is a myth man. You’d have to be a real inexperienced newbie if believing that. Wrong, maybe. But lack of!? No, mate. The instructions entering that pitch is pretty intricate. Even in the 90’s I was handed a dossier of my instructions. I can’t blame a single game on my manager when I didn’t preform. It was all down to me, not getting in the right frame. It’s down to the players now. That balance is on them, and it’s about creating energy and doing their duties.Carrick and McKenna were the coaches under Ole. So I’d find it a bit strange if the team setup/formation/personnel is massively different than what we have seen the last few months.
If Carrick makes big changes then I’d ask why he didn’t speak up sooner.
It’s all hearsay of course because none of us know what happens on the training pitch. But the “lack of tactics” criticism is very much on these two and not just Ole.
VDB the new MataIt'd be funny if this lineup is actually a 442
Ronaldo Martial
VdB - Fred - McT - Sancho
Telles - Maguire - Lindelof - AWB
Not sure about this, there was never a chance Carrick picks the same lineup as a side that was battered 4-1 by Watford in any scenario.
