Calum Chambers

I feel sorry to Saints supporters. It's hard looking at your team being dismantled in one swoop after you've watched them battle it out with the top teams in the league.

I think Debuchy is a short-term signing and Chambers more like long-term with the prospect of being converted into CB.Bellerin will replace Debuchy after a few seasons.

It may feel like that, but Wenger bought Jenkinson for a similar reason a few years ago. However, look how that turned out in the end with Jenko being seen as a right back (and a decent one at that as well). I have a feeling this may result in something similar where Wenger tries to play Chambers through the middle only to see that Chambers is best at right back rather than as a central defender.

It's strange, to me. If he wanted a central defender, why not go for an actual young central defender? Why go for Chambers who has rarely played as a central defender? Yes, Chambers is a promising right back with good defensive traits and who is decent going forward. However, I don't think he currently has the spatial awareness to play as a central defender nor could Wenger give him the time to develop that. My gut feeling tells me that Wenger will try to play Chambers as a central defender, see that he doesn't suit that role, buy another central defender, and sell Jenkinson to make space for Chambers (who can become better than Jenkinson).

I know one of the journos that goes on the 5 live MNC really rates him - future England captain.

I hate it when other clubs sign top young UK talent. We have really lost out to Arsenal on the likes of Ramsey, A-Ox etc

Lovren and Lallana I could understand, they wanted to go but this deal not...

I can understand them accepting selling Shaw as the offer was too big to reject for a player of his position (much less given his age), and similarly the Lallana fee was above his actual value, but the others would make me very angry if I were a Saints fan. Giving away Lambert, letting Lovren get what he wanted by acting a cnut, and now this - reflects badly on the board of the club IMO.

Exactly, Lovren really acted like a cnut, saying he aldready feels like a Liverpool player, refusing to train and similar, it was really awful behaviour by him.

We can't sign all of them. And we just signed by far their best English talent, what more do you want?

We also have Janko already at the club almost if not currently ready to break into the first team like Chambers did last season

I'd have liked us to go for him. He's inexperienced but shown great promise and can play in a few positions.

I don't think he's going to get many games this season. Debuchy is a fantastic player. Then again, staying in a club that's falling apart and doesn't have a clear future would've been risky, too. I probably would've done the same thing.

I know i know, but my muppetry/jealousy is most acute when it comes to young brits.

The Jimmy Bullard cracks me up. Poor Jenks...I reckon he'd rather go back to Chas than up to Dull. He's going to work his socks off in training and pre-season.

Worth about £15m so about right from Arsenal. Looks a talented prospect and I'm betting he'll displace Debuchy by next year. I actually rate Chambers more as Debuchy really isn't that good.
Interesting to know how you came to this valuation.

Talented English player with the ability to be an exceptional player for the Arse. Not quite as good as Shaw yet nor does he have quite as much experience but could be as good as him in the future. Shaw was overpriced so I'd personally value him at about £20m but can see why we've overpaid.

Yeah I dont see it but lets see what happens. It would be interesting to see him as a ball playing CB if that is what you do with him

Now all we need to do is add the Emirates Cup and we're laughing
