Buttner to Dinamo Moscow?

Gone of the days of big clubs bullying smaller clubs into selling their players on the cheap. And it's something I feel the club has failed to grasp

27m-30m is quite a flattering offer for an 18 year old LB.

One of the most bizarre transfers we have made in the recent years. Right there with Bebe as a hopless player who somehow managed to get signed by United.

Long term, you could see him play at the top for 15 years, which makes 30 million a bargain. Any LB which can defend well and attack and play at the top that long, makes any club want more money

Defenders are just has important has attacking players, and Southampton are not that eager to sell, because they do not need the money so much

30 million is only a bargin if he fulfills his potential and stays at united...

as the price is so high based on potential should he not develop as people want him to then he will of course be overpriced.

if he was to sign a 5 year contract and then in 3 years stall on an extension and then in the final year of his contract we are forced to take 10m say from real madrid in january then again he has probably not been a bargin.

Now if its true we have circa 200m to spend on players then fine lets take the risk - if we have more like 100m then I feel a rodriguez or moreno might represent better value (though potentially not with quite as high a celing)

to suggest he is a bargin is a premature as is saying it is a rip off - time will tell and it could go either way.

I hope we sign him but it is one position there are numerous options (plus we have evra for another year) so im not too worried should it fall through for any reason

He wasn't even Gypsy of the Match 14 times.

He gave his all here, though. Good luck to him.

Not when the club is not needing the money so much
but southampton do...
owe 27million in transfers plus have a 30 million bill due for their training ground and currently operating at a loss

so they are in a difficult financial position and thats according to their director
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26813363
New Southampton director Hans Hofstetter says the club's board has inherited a "difficult financial situation".

Hofstetter spoke as Southampton published their annual results for the year ending 30 June 2013 - their first back in the Premier League.

The club posted a net loss of £7.1m and will enter the summer window owing £27m in outstanding transfer fees.

“It is a burden that has to be covered and will be covered”

A bill in excess of £30m is also pending for their new training ground.

Previous chairman Nicola Cortese resigned in January, with Ralph Krueger replacing him. Hofstetter joined the board at the same time.

"Whilst I perceive that we have inherited a difficult situation financially, there are now clear and structured plans in place to progress the club and avoid a similar situation from occurring again," Hofstetter said in a statement.

Cortese was at Southampton from 2009 and was widely credited with helping to bring stability off the pitch after years of financial turmoil.

However, Hofstetter says the new board must act now to eradicate some of the "burdens" of that regime.

Speaking to BBC Radio Solent, he added: "Of course it's a burden, but it's a burden that has to be covered and will be covered.

"When I came in from the outside I had different information, I was surprised but not disappointed. It is what it is and my culture is to look to the future and accept the past."

Financial highlights
  • Total revenue increased 213% to £71.8m (2012: £22.9m) with average league attendances up from 26,427 to 30,807.
  • Broadcasting income grew from £5.6m in 2011/12 to £46.9m in 2012/13.
  • Match day income of £11.8m in 2011/12 has risen to £16.9m in 2012/13.
  • Commercial income increased from £4.8m in 2011/12 to £6.7m in 2012/13.
  • Total group wages, including player wages, increased to £47.1m in 2013 from £28.7m in 2012.
That past means Southampton will begin next season with a transfer debt of £27m - despite already repaying £21m of fees this season alone - but Hofstetter says that will not lead to the sale of star players such as Luke Shaw, Jay Rodriguez and Adam Lallana.

"The most important point is that we are in a position where we do not need to sell any player Mauricio [Pochettino] wants to keep," Hofstetter added.

"We have a very strong squad and we are still in a situation where we are free enough to act quickly if quick action is asked from us."

The over-spend on the club's new training ground at Staplewood is also significant, with the expected total cost now more than £30m - up from an original estimate of £15m.

However, the wage-to-turnover ratio has fallen sharply - from 102% to a healthier 65% - after the removal of exceptional bonuses associated with promotion.

Operating profit is up to £8.7m, although that becomes a net loss of £7.1m once transfer expenditure is taken into account.

Commercial income rose from £4.8m to £6.7m after Southampton's ascension to the top flight.

The Liebherr family, represented by non-executive chairman Katharina, injected a further £12.5m during the financial year, with another £2.2m in September 2013 bringing the total investment to £52.7m.

However, £37.9m of that has been converted into equity shares, bringing the club's net liabilities down to £1.6m from £32.4m in 2012.

I wouldn't consider a fee in the region of £27m - £30m cheap for an 18 year old.

I agree it will probably be Evra taking the back seat more often than not, but I think he's been played into the ground in recent years, and that his performances would benefit from fewer games. Shaw is 15 years younger than him, and still learning. I believe we'll have just about enough games to make it work, and they are both vastly better players than Buttner.

?

How is not spending more than £30 million for Shaw trying to get him on the cheap?

That's what he said.

Well how much should we be offering for him?

Bobbins player whose name on the teamsheet used to bring me dread. Ta-ra.
One or two more wasters still to cull.

Absolute dross. One of the poorest signings we've made in recent years and never good enough to wear the shirt. Delighted he's off and may the cull continue.

Buttner
Hernandez
Young
Anderson
Cleverley
Valencia
Fellaini
Nani
Bebe

1 down 8 to go.

Agree that Young should be gone, but Nani and Valencia too? We can't get rid of all three of them only unless we're getting Sanchez or someone else. If you think all 3 will be sold you're living in a pipe-dream.

He wasn't that bad, a decent enough back up to Patrice (who doesn't miss many games anyway). Buttner's performance against Bayern was worth half the fee we paid for him alone.

£30 million for a fullback is never a bargain. He's never going to directly be responsible for our success like a number 9 would for example. Scoring goals at the top level is considered the hardest thing, hence its those players who go for record fees while fullbacks are usually signed for decent fees.

£30 million for a fullback is the absolute most that most teams will even consider. Thats what Alves went for and he's more than just a fullback, he has the end product of a winger.

Shaw could be worth £25-30 million, but it'll obviously never be a bargain. Thats paying a premium for an outstanding young talent

That's what he said.

I quoted oneunited, not sure what you did there

If we end up getting Shaw then there will be no room for Buttner in the squad, so this move doesn't really come as a surprise. He seemed to have a good attitude and always gave 100% on the pitch but, unfortunately, he just wasn't good enough.

The best decision for all parties involved is that we let him go and I wish him well at his next club.

Good luck Buttman, can't fault his attitude but it was about time.

Hopefully Young, Ando, Fellaini and Bebe are next.

MOTM 14 times? He's played 28 games for us, is he saying he was MOTM for half of his games?

That MOTM thing is surely a mistranslation...

I'd assumed a mis-translation, but BBC are reporting the same quote on their sportsday tracker.

I always can't get by the idea he was bought just to accompany RVP, now with LVG, Buttner is needed no more.

If we sign a winger, I think it would be a good idea to sell all our senior wingers (and resend Zaha on loan). One winger + Mata + Kagawa + Januzaj for two positions is more than enough IMO.

Good deal for us, questionable for Dinamo. Good luck to him.

I recall after the Buttner signing hearing the old "there is no value in the market" excuse.... and to add insult to injury Coentrao was available during that time (2012)

why just because he was dutch???
RVP certainly has no trouble with the language - I am fairly sure they didnt know each other well from the holland squad as buttner was only called into the provisional 2012 squad and never made the full squad or got any other call ups plus are the wrong age to know each other from youth football. And dont forget we had mulensteen if all we wanted was someone from holland

Good luck to him. Excellent attitude but he was always crap. Hope the move works out well for him.

Rather we bring in Blind or Shaw, we've officially strengthened if Buttner is leaving. He was absolutely diabolical defensively and his comments are a bit out of place regarding Van Gaal IMO.

Soup grapes that LvG also thinks he's shite and never took him to the world cup.
