Bundesliga 19/20

How does Bayern keep getting all these amazing deals? James Rodriguez on loan from Real Madrid and now Philippe Coutinho on loan from Barcelona?! Gentleman’s agreement? This would have never happened to us or probably any EPL clubs.

Coutinho is a good player and for relatively cheap it makes sense. But I am not sure, if his playerstyle fits into the team.

Also todays match was somewhat unlucky, but also it aside from a about 10 mins in each half - it looked fairly tame from Bayern.

What is wrong with some posters on here? This used to be a great forum for fans of all clubs.
Don't dish out, if you can't handle the blowback. If you bitch at the other dude "Why don’t you put you money where your mouth is and bid heavily on Bayern not becoming champions?" - then you really shouldn't play the victim here.

They take players most clubs dont want. Realistically, Coutinho was only going to end up at either PSG or Bayern. Same for James at the time, most clubs didnt want him, Bayern do, especially since the pressure for big name signings is big this summer. Bayern are also a good destination for outcasts from top clubs, guys that arent wanted for whatever reason in Italy, Spain or England at big clubs that can go to Bayern and still be at a big club with challenging for trophies, so they are attractive in that regard.

Bayern get good deals because they dont throw around with money, while you can milk the English clubs. Real and Barca were desperate to get rid and players want to join them, so a quick cheap deal can be done for both parties. I also think they have good connections and mutual respect with other big clubs, so that deals can be done easier.

Rummenigge has been the chairman for the ECA for several years and since most of the big clubs are on the same page when it comes to negotiations with the UEFA/FIFA and the likes, I'm sure you are spot on about good connections and mutual respect.

Don't know how Coutinho would fit into the current Bayern set-up. He certainly doesn't play his best when he's out on the left, which is where Bayern are weak at the moment and need a player, and they don't play a formation that requires a CAM, which is Coutinho's best position.

Bayern have been playing 4-3-3 with 3 central midfielders for a very long time now, they would have to either switch to a 4-2-3-1 or move Coutinho to the left. Either way there will be a lot of adjustment to do.

It is about your choice of words. „Butt hurt“ or „bitch“ about. That is unnecessary. But i‘ll leave you to it.

I find the aggressive tone of some Dortmund supporters here quite off-putting as well. It is one thing to enjoy when your own team is doing well and I will be the first to admit that I enjoy every sporting related bad thing that happens to Bayern. But gloating like this when it's really not possible to judge the incomplete Bayern team yet and we haven't even played a minute of Bundesliga football just seems stupid. And additionally I know I would find it extremely unnecessary if I thought my team were shit and others felt the need to rub it under my nose as well. I am quite sure most Bayern supporters are aware that things are not ideal. They were non-ideal last season as well and they still won every domestic title. So maybe dial it back a bit and enjoy a hopefully great match vs. Augsburg.

Edit to add something pf substance: I am personally quite intimidated by the Coutinho signing because in my opinion he is a fantastic player and could do extremely well for Bayern. Depending on the release clause he could be a big bargain for them. It all depends on how much time he needs to settle in and how well they can accomodate his playstyle. He seems to be a bit of a diva (I don't know much about him so please someone correct me if I'm wrong) or at least needs the right circumstances to perform to his best level. But overall I am expecting great things from him at least in form of some moments of brilliance. Probably an entertaining addition to the league.

Anyone can tell me something about Cuisance? I don't remember having seen him play so i know very little about him.
What type of player is he? What I've heard so far he sounds like another 8 or b2b player. That would be the fourth in the squad.

Seems to be a very technical and creative box-to-box type of player according to this German blog post. (https://miasanrot.de/scouting-report-mickael-cuisance/)
According to them, some scouts compare him with Rakitic

Dortmund 0:1 down to Augsburg after 30 seconds, equalize in the 3rd minute

Wow, Paderborn weren't bluffing when they said they were going all out attack in Bundesliga this season.

It seems Leverkusen is being Leverkusen again? Only see the result at them moment.

Frustrating they can never get the defensive structure right as they're so good to watch forward when it all clicks.

individual errors aside, it must be a nightmare to be part of their defence. They are consistently having to play 2vs2 / 3vs3. Thats just too risky.
That's precisely why Bosz failed at Dortmund. Too little defensive coverage. Still think the Leverkusen squad is more suited to it.

I think that's primarily because it's early in the season. Defensively we looked rock solid at the end of the last one. Positive that this will be the case again a few games into this season.

Another clean sheet for RB Leipzig and another impressive performance from 20 year old Ibrahima Konate. He's so gifted athletically that he could play in various roles. Physically dominant and with recovery pace in abundance the sky is the limit for him IMO.

I thought that had a lot to do with preseason where the players had different roles to play. E.g. last season with time the combination on the right between Kimmich/Gnabry/Müller and then Lewy functioned better and better - but it was the first time since May they played like this. There was a lot in the structures I liked - like the ways they played Gnabry into scene - but I guess the way the match played with the two unlucky goals again and some wrong decision making + not so clean passing in/near the box went a little unlucky, too.

they say: behind-the-scenes work, maintaining good connections to other clubs. also, having the Adidas CEO standing behind ya waving multi-million personal sponsorship deals may be a factor :D

Will be very interesting to see the signings of Bayern Munich this season.

Coutinho: 18 poor months
Perisic: Awful last season
Hernandez: Now fit but he was out many months with a heavy knee injury
Pavard: Not his fault but still relegation with Stuttgart
Cuisance: Weird signing if Sanchez will stay (and off the pitch he is apparently a totally idiot)

I agree with most of what you wrote but actually expect Sanches to leave now. The Cuisance signing and Brazzo‘s latest comments not ruling out a sale make me think this.
The main problem is still Kovac though. His tactics (if you wanna call them that) are mostly relying on individual quality. A midfield combination of Thiago+Countinho helps, but i thought the same about James...

I went to watch them a couple of years ago, the fans are brilliant.
Yeah, the game went poorly for them, obviously, but you could tell the fans were having the time of their lives when the match kicked off. The pictures they held up in the stands right at the start of the match was very touching as well.

Union Berlin counted the pictures as attendees for the game too. For the price of a ticket, they printed and supplied all the pictures. So the official attendance was higher than their capacity.

The fans pretty much all stayed behind for over an hour after the game too, basically having a huge party.

Considering the meaning behind the pictures, that was awesome for the club to do. I imagine it was one helluva party. I’ve said it before, but I think it deserves repeating, the Bundesliga fans are on a different level.

Can’t wait to see them when Union play the first top flight derby with Hertha!

I went to watch Union Berlin on the Friday, and Wolfsburg vs Bayern on the Saturday.

The fan experience there is so much better. Can drink beer in the stands, can stand up, and they play heavy metal and rock music before the game.

If you had some United fan with a megaphone at the front of the Stretford End, you'd think "feck off you cnut" but over there it seems to work. I think that is because there is a real sense of community between fans and clubs, with the ownership models. Over here, you don't get that.

Managers that rely heavily on individual ability are often not the best tactically or at coaching the players into operating as a team. IMO it is the first sign of a manager not being up to the required standard (same as centrebacks always needing to make 50-50 tackles). Then again, very few coaches can make their team function as a unit in both defence and attack.

Bayern is IMHO several numbers too big for Kovac. Frankfurt with their underdog mentality were perfect.
Bayern supporters were spoilt by the football under Heynckes and Guardiola. It started going downhill with Ancelotti and Kovac isn’t any better.
They should’ve gone for someone like Tuchel or Nagelsmann.

I had a theory that Bayern wanted a big coach probably Klopp or Naggelsman who wasn't ready and they just decided to use Kovac as a placeholder thinking Klopp will be done with Liverpool or Naggelsman will be ready.
With the way most of his transfer suggestions were overruled bar Perisic who is on loan. Bayern is definitely way out of Kovac's league and I see him getting fired this season
Tuchel is not convincing either.

I agree. Kovacs tactics, as far as i could decipher them, seem to be: provide a solid scaffolding of defense and midfield hat can gain and defend the ball, in attack rely on individualism. That works as long as Bayerns individual class is better than that of the opponents. It fails if the opposing coach has a good idea to outsmart this system (BVB) and/or the opponent is of an even higher individual class (=all of EU top teams).

Agree that Sanches is very likely not staying (godspeed!). Local media is murmuring they want to get Emre Can back, which would make no sense at all.

Yep looks like Sanches goes now to Lille......to replace an average player (Sanches) with another average player (Cuisance) and to make a 15m transfer plus.....well done Brazzo :)

I totally agree that Kovac is the main problem on the pitch.....i can't believe he's the coach of Bayern Munich for another season :wenger:

And by the way i have forgotten Arp on that list as new signing

Can would be a typical Kovac player so that would make sense from his perspective.

Got to admit, I'd find it funny if Bayern buys him player after player and once he's finally gone leaves Can, Goretzka and Tolisso for the next coach. Good players but hardly Bayern calibre, especially considering their brand of football since van Gaal. Feel sorry for Thiago, though, hope he leaves next summer

???
Can is not joining Bayern, Goretzka would always have been bought (German, promising, no fee) and Tolisso joined before Kovac.

Did I say he joined because of Kovac?

I'm merely pointing out the change of player types found in Bayern's midfield. Schweinsteiger, Kroos, Alonso and Thiago are/were completely different player types than the ones Bayern signed in recent seasons (Goretzka, Tolisso) /are rumoured to sign (Can). And it's no secret Kovac prefers the latter type. So yeah, Can would be a typical Kovac player.

A midfield of Coutinho, Thiago and Martinez for example is hardly a big problem for any manager who follows Kovac. Goretzka as an option is obviously also nice to have considering we signed him for free. With Sanches gone, what's the big problem? Sell Tolisso next summer, sign a replacement that fits into the ideas of the next manager and pay up for Coutinho, if he plays well. If anything Emre Can would be a typical (and probably useless) Hoeneß signing. Not sure if there's a typical Kovac signing, it's not like he has a real identity. He's simply a pragmatic coach who is way out of his depth.

The big question isn't about the type of player but if those hyped up, clearly talented midfielders finally start performing like some of the leaders of the past did. Thiago continues to be a player who is beautiful to watch, but ineffective in many key moments. Coutinho even in his peak Liverpool form is nowhere near the matchwinner Robben and Ribery were. He needs to step up similarly to how Robben did in 2009 (in terms of impact, not necessarily in terms of playing style) to convince the board to pay that kind of money for him.

What's really fascinating is how underrated that Bayern squad has become. While it's obviously nowhere near the quality of 2013, it's still the best squad in the league. Bayern easily destroyed the league in the second half of last season despite Kovac. And while Hoeneß embarrassed himself again and convinced the media (thanks to his idiotic comments, which raised the exceptations) that it was a shit transfer window for Bayern, the team actually got stronger over the summer. You don't even need an elite manager, just get rid of Kovac and wait until PSG wants to get rid of Tuchel.
