Bryan Robson

Keane and Robson I'd say were very equal in their worth to United. Keane, post United, has been far more controversial and I think most on that basis alone would side with Robson if you had to pick one but Keane was a hell of a player.

I consider myself very fortunate to have been around when Robbo was playing. One of those players who don't come around too often he could do the lot and by Christ we missed him when he was out. The first name down in my United XI who I have seen playing.

What a great, great player.

He was my childhood hero, when football meant the most to me.

50 seconds in, I remember clearly watching this match at my uncles, still get goosebumps.

i was in the ground when he signed on the pitch at OT with Ron Atkinson. We all knew this was a great moment, problem was he was almost retired by the time we won the league. Best performance was against Barca, unbelievable by any measure today or in the past.

He was the reason I started supporting United. Loved him as a player - had it all.

Agree with what someone said above - scary to think how good he would be nowadays with better nutrition and fewer pints.

He was the best midfielder in Britain in the 80's, we'd have been a shambles without him and always suffered as a team when he was out injured (which unfortunately was quite a lot), when we won the title in 1993 I was so happy for Robbo who finally got his hands on the league trophy to end an illustrious career.
yes and we had hoddle at the time who was also world class - such a shame we insisted on playing 442 at the time - ah well nevermind
Robson for me would have got in world XI when fit for most of the 80's (possibly till about 88 when Rijkaard and the rest of that Dutch team made everybody take a step back and admire them)
Definitely ahead of keane for me and if you were to pick an all time united XI he would definitely be in mine.
He would of course have had to tackle differently in the modern game but so would every player from that era Id love to have a player like him available today because whilst Carrick, Schweinstiger, Schneiderling and Herrera are all good it would always be a case of who is playing alongside Robbo (when he was fit). First name on the teamsheet, captain marvel!

If we had Robbo on Saturday we would've won. That is, if Louis would've let him break shape to get forward. We know he dislikes Midfielders doing that.
Robbo would have done it anyway and told LVG to do one.
He was so good even LVG would listen... yes he might say dont do that again - I know you think I dont have the balls to drop you but I do - look (drops pants) these are the balls... Robbo would have booted him in them and said listen I'm not Luca Toni you just shut it and let me get on with winning games!

I was in the Stretford that day and got in to the Barca game also. Great memories. Did he play the day he signed? I can't remember but I do remember his first pass whether it was that game or not - a diagonal 40 yard cross field ball straight onto the boot of Coppell I think. 50k + people went silent in awe. Then again I could have imagined that :D

Ahhh....jumpers for goalposts etc etc

He didn't play in that game. For the. Next ten years if he didn't play we struggled and usually lost. Atkinson built the team around him instead of making him the lynchpin of an even stronger spine. His injuries harmed his career and left us with yet more barren years.

Yeah, she was pretty fit as well...

I tried my best to get it on with her, but opening with "I used to pretend to be your dad when I was young" starts you off on the wrong foot...plus every time I spoke to her, it was mainly about work, or her dad...

:lol:Yeah can imagine she might find that a bit off-putting.

Totally agree and from what I can remember he was recognised and lauded by both his peers and the media. He would be on my all time United 11.

went to some England U21 game at my local ground, Wycombe's Adams Park with my neighbour. While he was casual beyond belief about being sat amongst such big names, I, as a 16 year old starstruck beyond belief to have Bryan Robson, amongst others like Harry Redknapp, Frank Lampard senior, Dennis Wise, Lawrie Sanchez, Viv Anderson, within the same row, or 1 row behind!
Got him to sign my programme. Crap game, great night.

Risked losing my lift to get Danny Murphy, who was playing, to sign my programme too.

Far too bigger risk IMO.

in the Robson v Keane arguments, it probably does Keane no favours that he's acted a bit of a nob these last few years, whereas Robbo is an absolute clubman, and ambassador.

Robbo was also a standout player when we were a leetle sh!t. Whereas Keane was a standout player when we were top notch

This is one of those where its going to end up being a 50/50 split. Neither opinion is wrong, neither right. Comes down to personal preference.

Get f**ked Robbo tried to sell Fergie time to a reporter. Keano would have ripped the reporters throat out!

Does seeing who she ended up with make you feel bad about yourself?

I think he is getting at the fact Robbo wasnt a perfect saint and you mentioned Keanes being a knob.

I think the distinction between the two Is pretty huge though, don't you?
When was the last time Robbo was in the papers slagging key parts of the club off?

Its clearly a big difference.
Its the impossible debate really. I think Robbo was a better player on every level and if he had of played in the glory years that Keane did more people would be aware of just how complete a player he was and just how good he was. However thats my opinion and there will be a lot of people who think I am bonkers for thinking Robbo was better.
Its simply a no brainer to me.

Oh but its fine for this forum to do exactly that? Keano was a voice. He called out an average team for being average. There was a great drawing in the times with Fergie telling Keano you should not have said that. The response being "no...you should have"......he didn't accept average...I like that!
