Who's genuinely better suited for us? Savic or this guy?
Hopefully Fred will be able to take over that role from Matic. If we sign Longstaff, he could rotate with Fred.If the Maguire transfer is done, replacing Matic with someone more mobile is key to any success of that line up.
The thought of Matic trying to cover for Maguire when [as every defender is at some point] he is caught out gives me chills.
4-4-2 is the solution which becomes a 4-2-2-2 when we attackI can see potential problems with Pogba wanting to do the things that Fernandes is being brought into do and not having (or perhaps not wanting to have) the discipline to not end up clogging the spaces.
The problem with Pogba is if you play him as the #10 he also lacks discipline in that if he isn't seeing as much of the ball as he thinks he should he will drop deep too often and seek to do the things he gets bored of doing when it's his actual role. He has that selfish/entitled streak in him like Gerrard had that made him difficult to manage and fit pieces around.
If United are detemined to keep Pogba I wouldn't sign Fernandes because i don't think you will get the best out of either of them in the same team.

I second that. When pogba leaves and not if, we need a player ready to take place. And given most players need a year to settle it is best we buy one this summer.Better to have players who can share creativity burden and eventually replace Pogba too when he is missing or sold, and that should happen before Pogba is sold.
I agree. We badly need creativity and need new players while at the same time, we could put dross like Lingard and Mata on a stadium seatBetter to have players who can share creativity burden and eventually replace Pogba too when he is missing or sold, and that should happen before Pogba is sold.

Well he's never had a problem playing with Griezmann for France or Dybala at Juve so I think you're over thinking this. Pogba has never been a No.10 and will never be one so will have no problem playing alongside one.I can see potential problems with Pogba wanting to do the things that Fernandes is being brought into do and not having (or perhaps not wanting to have) the discipline to not end up clogging the spaces.

I see him a bit similar to Seedorf who played for years with Kaka and Rui Costa without a problem.
1 more season at Sporting it seems. Good for our league to remain more competitive.
United ready to launch bid for Fernandes. 50 million but still short.
Yeah, but Mirror also.Is that from Delaney?
4-4-2 is the solution which becomes a 4-2-2-2 when we attack
Rash - Striker (Martial/Greenwood/ Lukaku/ Yedder)
Pogba - Bruno
Fred - DM
Back Four
It’s not like we have proper wingers (other than James) to play 4-3-3, this suits our players

Think If Pogba is not gone this summer he's definitely gone next summer.I think if we get Bruno, then it's a sure fire sign that Pogba will be off next summer. Bring Bruno this summer and get SMS next summer before letting Pogba go to Madrid. This'll re-order our midfield and ensure that all the bases are covered in terms of what Pogba provides us.
Just curious... Why would you prefer SMS when there are better players to replace Pogba?I think if we get Bruno, then it's a sure fire sign that Pogba will be off next summer. I think its more a case of how he'll compliment Bruno. He's better defensively than Pogba but not as strong offensively. Bruno can provide the goals and approach play, while SMS can also contribute towards that approach play and be more diligent defensively.Just curious... Why would you prefer SMS when there are better players to replace Pogba?
The same point made me furious. Shouldn't we have lodged a concrete bid well before the team flew out to Oz? You know, so we might have been able to sort the transfer before Preseason as Ole wanted...just crazy to me that we are penny pinching as if we had the luxury of another seven years of missteps to get things right.14:56
United to lodge 'concrete Fernandes bid'
Manchester United will lodge a ‘concrete bid’ for Bruno Fernandes before the transfer window shuts, according to reports.
The Independent claim that Fernandes’ club Sporting CP have already rejected offers from United for the playmaker, with a £50million figure expected to be the magic number if the Reds are to land their man.
Fernandes is reported to be keen on the move while the report states that United remain interested in Newcastle’s Sean Longstaff.

The highlighted bit made me chuckle a bit. Not much point making a bid after the window shuts.
Think Ole wants him and supposedly Ed & Co. are not happy with what his club are asking. The same point made me furious. Shouldn't we have lodged a concrete bid well before the team flew out to Oz? I suppose most have players in his positions or don’t play in a way that would accommodate him. Plus very few probably have the cash to buy him and if you’re spending big you could throw 20 mil more and maybe get a better option.I find it strange considering his record last season that a whole host of top clubs aren't seemingly in for him. Even we aren't exactly beating their doors down to sign him. I guess maybe any move we make is contingent on what Pogba does to a large extent
You took the comparison too literally. I made the comparison mainly on a positional basis. Pogba has played off the left in the diamond formation which was Seedorf's position in AC Milan's diamond.Doesn't strike me as the most obvious comparison, to be honest. Seedorf was a team player par excellence, tactically very astute, etc.
If Pogba turns into Seedorf in terms of that stuff, combined with his natural talent and skill, he'll be pushing for GOAT territory.
Your opinion of Pogba doesn't match up with what has actually happened in his career. At Juve under both Allegri and Conte he excelled in a team with a defined structure. He was given creative freedom of course but was part of a team. The same happened in Deschamps World Cup winning French team where he had a clearly defined role and was one of the best CMs in the competition.Pogba is an amazing player but I think you have to be willing to build your pieces around him rather than having a pre-defined structure and then ask him to play a disciplined role within it.

Well now it looks like Pogba is staying we will see if signing Fernandes was reliant on him leaving
Probably was imo, and that’s a shame. Think they could both play together.Well now it looks like Pogba is staying we will see if signing Fernandes was reliant on him leaving
Couldn't agree more. Between AWB and Maguire we have solid defense and if nobody gets seriously injured Tuanzebe feels like a decent backup to develop. That second line-up has goals all over the pitch, and unless we bring those players in I think we'll really struggle for goals.
What is this based on exactly?Probably was imo, and that’s a shame. Think they could both play together.

Nothing. Ducker and Hirst both said we're interested in Fernandes regardless if Pogba leaves. What is this based on exactly?
