To be fair, Woodward does leak positive news the moment we lose a game. Remember when we were having our poor transfer window and all of a sudden papers were talking about a change in structure with a technical specialist coming in?

I think Fernandes happens. BUT there's a strong possibility he's a Pogba replacement. Woodward and our planners ARE that stupid.
Does he? I'd love you know where you got this info from. No one here likes Woodward, but some of the crap people are willing to attribute to him is mental. It's the transfer window, EVERY club is linked to an endless stream of players. Or is that all leaked by their respective chief execs too?

There has never been an example at United where a player comes in in mid-season and kick on. They will be spotty at best and then really start to kick on only after a summer.

But this summer is bad since most of our quality players will be away for the Euros. So, I imagine him to have some major, consistent impact only after 18months ie after the 2nd summer.

We are where we are at.

We need warm creative, attacking midfield bodies.
To be honest I dont even feel he might need to start off brilliantly as long as it means no more Lingard. I will take anybody as long as it means no more of him screwing our attacks. I also read he is a very professional player. Which means he follows instructions perfectly and can be told to release the ball quicker. One of lingards major problems was always running with the ball when a quick pass was needed. he wasnt creative enough to know when to move or pass. Im sure bruno is creative and tactical enough to know how to operate against a low block or on the counter. Good times ahead when this transfer pushes through.

Not at all.

If Simon Stone says "it's not finalised" "still work to be done" "not guaranteed" etc. - that usually means it's gonna happen.

EDIT: example below

We didn't sign Wan-Bissaka for another 9 days right?

Lingard for me has been so bad with touch, passing, hiding when we have the ball. Just a different player in Pereira has made a huge difference, and he is not even that good. So Fernandes would be a big big upgrade.

Duncan castles in his podcast.
Said we met on Friday with sporting.
Significant progress made. They want 75 mil but we won't do that.

We proposed Joel Peirera and Gomes on loan but they look non starters.
Gomes might be possible but contract situation makes things difficult.
Obviously Rojo another one discussed (Salary too high)

Will update if he says anything more significant.

Sporting expect deal to go through.
Also that Real and Atletico Madrid are sniffing around. Could be part of the reason we accelerated our bid preparing firmness.

What about that Eric Cantona fella?

Change of title now to show it isn't rumours anymore?

That's already been answered several times in this thread. Take a moment and read through.
could you please just summarize it in a sentence or two? I dont feel like reading through 44 pages. Was it price range or something else? Because I reading 60 million plus a player which is around the same figure this last summer.

From what the reports at the time suggested, we walked away from the Perisic deal because they were asking way too much for a player of his age and they wanted Martial as part of the deal which we felt didn't represent good value, hard to see us walking away from this one for such reasons.
My understanding was the gap in valuation was miniscule ...£3m - £4m.

You've missed the point. Woodward has come out after we've lost games and made press releases about how we've got 'football men' making the decisions on our board and how our scouting system is so advanced (databases!) etc etc. He's also bragged that 'Man United can do things other clubs can't' which judging by his tenure at United has been to offer stupid wages to anyone who'll take them. Oh and we also just hired a director of public relations (first signing of the window!) so yeah, Woody is a wiley figure who knows his job is under pressure. Press releases are often quite easy to distinguish from general journo rumour and Woody is well known for them when we're underperforming, especially seeing as he's getting boo'd at our games now...

How soon can he get here? He can have as many numbers as he wants
Haha, as long as we don't give him the cursed #7 I don't care. Fernandes 19 would suit well.

Wouldn't say he really hit the ground running from what I can remember.

Improved massively as a footballer over time though - never seen someone's first touch and control improve so much.
He did well in his first half-season with us, then fell off a cliff and had a shocking first full-season.

This might the longest transfer saga in United history. I don't recall another spanning two transfer windows except for Van Nistlerooy, but that one was firm from the beginning.

Hard work can go a long way. One of the frustrating things about Lukaku to be honest because there was a period of time he seemed to be improving on his touch as well and then it when to shit again.

Also he used to miss so many chances, but that improved as well. Shows you can learn to be clinical. Which I think Marcus is doing slow but surely.

Hargreaves I think as well.

Ander Herrera, when the imposters went to try and sign him and we got him a year later

So for all the people saying " it's the same as last summer" - that's clearly not true. This definitely has legs.

I assume knowing Woodward, he will wait until the very last moment to try and drop the deal as low as possible. Sporting want to keep him for their weekend match, so I assume this won't happen for a week yet.

Expect a few more days of YO-YO'ing before we eventually get the deal done.

TLDR; Player wants to join us, club want to sell, we need the player. The only reason this doesn't happen is if Woodward is a pillock or we find a better alternative (not likely)

Nah. Gaitan lasted about 5 years.

Gaitan went on for around 9 windows I reckon.

You don't remember one lasting 2 seasons? What rubbish. Hargreaves rumbled on through a whole Summer and onto the next. Herrera caused madness on deadline day and we didn't sign him until the following Summer. Then there's plenty more who we didn't sign.

Big fan of this transfer if it happens. He could offer exactly what we are missing in creativity in the midfield, such good vision and passing. Has great workrate and gets himself into good positions in fornt of goal as well.

Get it done, please.

Simon Stone's sources haven't given him any information. He's just retweeting what other (less well connected) reporters are saying.

I said I was going to smash my computer if I didn't receive any concrete news in 48 hours but I'm glad I now did. Good to see BBC reporting it. I really need him to be signed as soon as possible though.. want him to play vs. Wolves as he has experience playing against lots of portuguese players!

Get him signed before the next 48 hours!

Except it is Simon Stone who would query it is raining while stood on the deck of Noah's Ark.

He claims an agreement on his valuation has been reached and that the negotiations on Friday moved along quite well

Classic Woodward this. Spend a whole summer considering a bid, media rumours then there was suggestions we were never in him, his passing wasnt good enough.

Come January back in for him turning a U-Turn after having media reports stating Maddison is our primary target.

Take a whole month to sign him so we don't get more than 1 transfer.

Miss out on Maddison in the summer because we have just signed a No. 10.

This doesn't yet hold a candle to the classic and never-ending Gaitan, Vidal, Thiago and Sneijder saga's
