6 Months ago we were offered Fernandes and said no.
Now we’ve been offered him again and we said possibly but not for anything close to what you are offering him for.

De Brun claimed that it was likely that United would sign Bruno last summer. He got that wrong.
They have veto power so we won't bring in someone they don't want but it's the committee who chooses the targets now. So we'll hopefully have some continuity if the head scouts stay regardless of manager changes.
Pleb is just cashing in on the hatred that fanbase has against Ed. There was no briefing that we were angry when we were linked to Bruno. It was Mancity who had actually briefed that there is no deal for Bruno when Portuguese press were saying that Mancity had already bought him. Even Simon Stone said we were interested but we're put off because of the price tag. The only reason we went for him in January is because Sporting were willing to the deal at a lower price and all our other targets are not attainable at the moment. Now since Sporting increased their asking price, we have a decision to make, whether to go ahead and put future negotiations in jeopardy or back away. In both cases "so called Journalist" like Pleb will use it to turn it against Ed. He knows this will be instantly supported by the fanbase and will give him the limelight that he craves.
This one's going to drag on like AwB. If we do it, people will complain we paid too much. If we don't do it, people will complain that Ed is incompetent.

I agree mate, I was just winding you up. That said, apparently Sporting quoted us €45M in the summer. Now, if rumours are to be believed, they are asking for €80M. I think this is the reason why we there seems to be a disagreement in the value for Fernandes.
I´m fine with United negotiating. As long as they land him at the end, but I understand the worry of paying too much and the inflation it would have on the next deal. And the next, and the next. I can imagine Woodward has guidelines from above for how to operate in the marked, and he´s trying to do his job.

It's quite clear Sporting is trying to take advantage of United Midfield crisis and the fact that even people who have zero credibility like Pleb can spin it against United and people will just lap it up. I hope we back away from this deal and it's quite clear not a single club out there is willing to do the deal with Sporting's evaluation
Personally I’d rather wait and try and get someone better for that kind of money , I like Bruno but we’d be stupid to pay that much for a player that isn’t proven in the Premier league, too much risk involved, no player is a dead cert of course but we should either go for another target now or wait and try for Maddison or Grealish in the summer

The board is just dragging this like they did with Wan Bissaka and Maguire, and in the end they will pay the market price like they had to with those two players.

Yeah I do think Ole still has the majority power with transfers as the manager should and that's why the direction re: signings. I think a DoF also having a veto power and being the liaison between the scouts, the manager and Judge/Woodward would be nice though. Makes everyone's work easier. Doubt that'll happen though.

I imagine because we had no intention on signing him this window until Pogba had yet another setback and Mctomminay being out.
If Pogba was back playing now like most of us thought he would be by now then I doubt Bruno would even be in the works.
I don’t think they’ve upped the price, it’s just that the media are reporting two different things because it seems like they didn’t know.
The only thing we know for a fact is that all of our transfers with any club (not just Sporting) take ages because the board don’t want to pay the asking price, yet they end up having to do it regardless. If the same thing happened with Maguire and Wan Bissaka, you know that what is happening now is not totally Sporting’s fault. It’ll drag in the same way with our next target in another club next summer.

Maguire was knocked down from £90m to £80m and AWB from £55m to £45m plus we retained the sell-on for Zaha.

Every single person in the World knows we retained that potential windfall on Zaha, it was 100% a successful negotiation on our part as Palace pushed haaaaaaard to have it removed.

Sporting are free to quote the price they want but soon will accept that there are not many clubs in the market for Bruno and they could end up selling him for less in the summer. Also, will have a player on hand who has one eye out of the club for the rest of the season. It's a losing scenario for Sporting and the player.
This story of Sporting as a bad guy would be more believable if Ed didn't have history of making a mess of almost every transfers.

The good clubs plan their transfers months in advance and get their players early in the window while we “successfully negotiate” until the deadline.
