Well we didn't in the summer, so maybe you're right, but why go there at all then?
They have veto power so we won't bring in someone they don't want but it's the committee who chooses the targets now. So we'll hopefully have some continuity if the head scouts stay regardless of manager changes. Not the financials or execution, but they are still certainly in charge of bringing in the profile and type of player they want.
I didn't mean that to sound like I was, anyone with a football brain knows how shit of an offer that is, so what's the point in offering it unless it was considered a fair one by Matt Judge? All that's done is raise the price even more so great work there.
Spurs offered 40m+20m in summer. These media reports that he was offered for less is wrong considering they didn't sell him to Spurs.I agree mate, I was just winding you up. That said, apparently Sporting quoted us €45M in the summer. Now, if rumours are to be believed, they are asking for €80M. I think this is the reason why we there seems to be a disagreement in the value for Fernandes.
If this does fall through, is he even that good?
It doesn't matter, Ole wants clearly him, that's all that counts.

It's quite clear Sporting is trying to take advantage of United Midfield crisis and the fact that even people who have zero credibility like Pleb can spin it against United and people will just lap it up. I hope we back away from this deal and it's quite clear not a single club out there is willing to do the deal with Sporting's evaluation
No they’re not. We’re the ones taking the piss if we think they will sell us their best player mid-season for only 40M, in a market where Everton bought Iwobi for 35M.Sporting are clearly taking the piss but that's because they know they can and that the people running our club are stupid enough to get roped into it.
ThisUnited and Leicester were "far apart in their valuations" over Maguire up until the last couple of days.
It's all posturing via the media. They'll reach a compromise eventually.
The board will have to take a bit of a hit because they're in a vulnerable position.
It's mainly agenda driven. When we overpay Ed is shit, when we stand firm Ed is incompetent. We truly are a tough crowd to please.
True, good comment. Although I thought the new direction (British core, dedicated to United) was Ole's initiative. But hopefully we have continuity from now. They have veto power so we won't bring in someone they don't want but it's the committee who chooses the targets now. So we'll hopefully have some continuity if the head scouts stay regardless of manager changes.
How are they not? They've upped the asking price in the last 24 hours if reports are to believed. Is that not taking the piss? So what's changed? No they’re not. We’re the ones taking the piss if we think they will sell us their best player mid-season for only 40M, in a market where Everton bought Iwobi for 35M.
The board is just dragging this like they did with Wan Bissaka and Maguire, and in the end they will pay the market price like they had to with those two players.
Yeah I do think Ole still has the majority power with transfers as the manager should and that's why the direction re: signings. I think a DoF also having a veto power and being the liaison between the scouts, the manager and Judge/Woodward would be nice though. Makes everyone's work easier. Doubt that'll happen though.True, good comment. Although I thought the new direction (British core, dedicated to United) was Ole's initiative. But hopefully we have continuity from now.
No. I just won't get upset at the transfer fee like some on here, I'll just be happy we have the playerSo Sporting can literally ask what they please and we should pay it?
Why didn’t we negotiate in fecking December I just wonder? Everyone fecking knew that we needed reinforcements since May and here we are negotiating in January.
I don’t think they’ve upped the price, it’s just that the media are reporting two different things because it seems like they didn’t know. How are they not? They've upped the asking price in the last 24 hours if reports are to believed. Is that not taking the piss? So what's changed?

The only thing we know for a fact is that all of our transfers with any club (not just Sporting) take ages because the board don’t want to pay the asking price, yet they end up having to do it regardless. If the same thing happened with Maguire and Wan Bissaka, you know that what is happening now is not totally Sporting’s fault. It’ll drag in the same way with our next target in another club next summer.
This
There's also paranoia.Ah yes, Woodward's quarterly briefing in full force I see. We'll have our annual one at the end of the window when we sign either nobody or some no-name that won't really improve anything.
But hey, going by this thread and seeing how many people actually lap in his bullshit you can sort of understand how he gets away with it. If it works, it works.
Why are you peddling these lies? As has already been extensively demonstrated we successfully negotiated in both of those deals.
Maguire was knocked down from £90m to £80m and AWB from £55m to £45m plus we retained the sell-on for Zaha.
They’re not lies, they just don’t fit your agenda. What you call “successfully negotiating” is actually spending weeks not wanting to pay the market price only to end up having to pay it anyway. Why are you peddling these lies? As has already been extensively demonstrated we successfully negotiated in both of those deals.
