100% agreed. Another case of trying to exploit us.
I was going to stop watching us if we didn't buy a midfielder but this is too much.
If we end up paying 60M+ on this guy I give up.
So would most midfielders in the PL, but what about buying someone that would be more than just marginally better than what we currently have?

I think the midfield crisis is forcing through a transfer that was earmarked for next summer. Point is, Woodward likes to lowball and it just pisses people off. When you structure deals to give some cash up front, potentially beefed up with clauses like the ballon d’or, champions league, man utd twitter getting x followers you just make people think youre taking the piss. if we overpay we lose, if we don't sign a midfielder we lose too ... either way, Woodward will come out of this as the loser in the eyes of many people. Don't get me wrong, I hate the man as much as most other fans do - but he simply can't win this one.
Firstly he is not a CM . We have no guarantee about his success here . Fecking Dost scores 25 + goals in that league. The fact he is already 25 and is paid a record fee means there is huge pressure to perform right away.
When was the last time an attacker came from that league and became an instant success in epl? Yes, we got Nani and Ronaldo about 13 years back. The latest I can think is Jimenez who himself is a midtable striker at best. Sporting are just getting desperate and they wanted to sell as high as possible.

Maguire is a whole different case. While I agree we should have got him for 60, his success was at least guaranteed to a good extent.

I honestly don't care that much whether we signed him specifically or not, if we think he's overpriced we should start monitoring other targets so that if they are so reluctant on decreasing the price we don't end up wasting time and money for nothing. At the moment we should start scouting other midfielders available to pay and even engage in negotiation with them. At the moment all Sporting are seeing is we're desperate for a midfielder and look like we don't have other options so decided to elevate the price tag heavily knowing we'll end up paying with such circumstances. Just move on from him and check other options.
All that matters is us signing a midfielder this window, be it Bruno or anyone else, doesn't matter.

In my opinion 65m should never be the norm for a guy playing in Portgual, I hope we back out at that price and stop inflating the market. Obviously no other club thinks he’s worth that.

Honest question: do other clubs have this much drama, in their transfer windows? Do we not see their drama because we mostly care/are informed about our own transfers? He can play both as a no 10 or a CM, so yes, he is an attacking CM. That means nothing though. The reality is that Ole wants him, that Manchester United had been busy dismantling CM or allowing midfielders to go on free and that we've now got a squad that struggles to make it to top 5. Now we can either choose to keep the money in the bank while lingering to obscurity or else we actually start acting like a big club and buy players. A big club is judged as so from what he does on the pitch and not how much money it rakes to its shareholders.

The window will be closed by the time we even try for another one knowing us. Besides, we're in no position to pretend to be the big man. We're not the powerhouse we once were with an average squad that is in desperate need of renovation. If we want the "bigger" names we have to pay up. If we don't want to pay the big fees then maybe our scouting department should do their job properly and unearth a gem.
The Judge-Woodward duo are resistant to learning.
What new target? We needed an entire summer to buy 3 players, 2 of which were massively overpriced and are massively overrated. If things follow the trend we're currently following then we'll probably add a CM by 2023-2024 the latest. Meanwhile we keep losing players but don't worry.....there's money in the bank or whatever.
Waiting for the press to link us with a player in same position to put more pressure on Sporting. Thats the next stage.

What do you want us to do? It’s more Man Utd tax. Spurs would land this guy for £50m. When it’s United the selling club sticks another £10-15m on the price. This is partly Woodward’s doing by overpaying for players in the past, but it’s not going to get better if we keep doing it. We need to draw a line in the sand on valuation here, and if Sporting say no then walk away. They’re taking the piss, they’re not getting €80m for this guy, from anyone. They know we’re desperate and they know we have a history of overpaying. If this is where they want to stand then they can keep him, sell him for half that in the summer.

After this horrendous saga we will finally get him for about £60-65m and he'll end up being bang average. You can almost see it coming.

We are already, that's the issue. But with them at the helm, everyone can do it. Our transfers since Fergie have been disasters, rightly so and not only the targets, but the manner as well. To blame are both of them and our managers, which goes back ot both of them and the club again for allowing it.
If he is so desperate to come why the feck did he recently sign a new contract? Higher salary obviously but huge negative in terms of getting a move.
pros and cons. Ive seen some quality set pieces from him and some rifled finishes from in and around the box. Dead balls and getting shots is fine but its other areas id worry about like fitness and if he can adapt to not getting 8 touches of the ball in the final third without being closed down
All this Bruno talk has really driven United's social media engagements. They'll love that on the next investor call. Job done.
