Yep. I hate Woodward but he's right not to pay more than 45m. We're in this mess exactly because we squandered incredible amount of money on dross and mediocrity. Sporting are clearly trying to con us.
So would most midfielders in the PL, but what about buying someone that would be more than just marginally better than what we currently have? He’d walk onto our midfield ?
Can't believe we're back treading in quicksand. We never seem to learn from our past mistakes. It's been the same the last couple transfer windows.
If we don't buy at least one quality midfielder, I give upIf we end up paying 60M+ on this guy I give up.
It's the fact that all the negotiating is going on this far into January. You don't have to be in the transfer window to negotiate a signing. It's clear there's no fecking plan because if there was, we'd have sorted this signing way in advance of January.
Firstly he is not a CM . We have no guarantee about his success here . Fecking Dost scores 25 + goals in that league. The fact he is already 25 and is paid a record fee means there is huge pressure to perform right away.we massively paid for Maguire. 80M for a non WC CB is ridiculous. Bruno is worth 68m euros especially since we're so light in CM. If we wanted to play this game then maybe we shouldn't have dismantled the midfield and brought no one to replace them as we did.
True, that's what happens when you mess up the summers recruitment.if we overpay we lose, if we don't sign a midfielder we lose too ... either way, Woodward will come out of this as the loser in the eyes of many people. Don't get me wrong, I hate the man as much as most other fans do - but he simply can't win this one.
Put down your text book and try watching football. Couldn’t give a feck about your numbers.
Maguire is a whole different case. While I agree we should have got him for 60, his success was at least guaranteed to a good extent. And we overpaid later for Maguire, paying 80m after refusing to pay 60m for him the previous summer so what.
We'll waste time trying to lower the price then we'll pay what they exactly want when we discover the window is about to shut down and we haven't paid anyone, and Woodward will look like a genius, while in fact he's just a crap negotiator.

If we do then I’ll completely agree with you but I’ve given my opinion on this transfer already and what I think is happening.
We never intended to buy a midfielder this month and have our targets for the summer window, targets which are in no way available now. Those plans have possibly changed, somewhat reluctantly, due to McTominay’s injury at the end of December and Pogba’s recurrent injury in early January which required surgery and sees both players out for months.
Fernandes is on the market and Sporting are actively trying to sell him, it's pretty obvious that we don't view him as the answer to all out midfield problems. I'd wage a good bet that it was Sporting who have approached and offered him to us and I think our response has been measured. Yes, we need a midfielder. No, we do not view him as our number one target and as such he's a squad player long term for us. Therefore we're not interested in discussing marquee signing fees. We've set our valuation of him and our attitude is that for £45m + bonuses, he would represent value and it would be fair business to paper over immediate cracks and add strength in depth long term. We're not going to piss about agreeing a transfer up to £70m+ because the club have decided we're not that desperate and in a month or two we could conceivably have McTominay, Pogba, Fred, Matic and Periera all fit and available which would tie us over to the summer when we can look to spend £70m+ on our first choice targets.
In short, we view him as a squad player long term and are not interested in paying the marquee prices Sporting are quoting. Rightly so.

No taYou’d easily get Grealish for less
Was just waiting for someone to post this . It didn’t take long . Also he did feck all.
Bayern Munich is pretty crazy, especially because they themselves love to talk so much. Tons of drama all the time.Honest question: do other clubs have this much drama, in their transfer windows? Do we not see their drama because we mostly care/are informed about our own transfers? Or is sports media always making it sound much more dramatic because we are United and they are used to selling papers/getting clicks by giving us over-the-top attention?
I watched it and he completed 3 passes and scuffed a shot. Future star.

When was the last time an attacker came from that league and became an instant success in epl? Yes, we got Nani and Ronaldo about 13 years back. The latest I can think is Jimenez who himself is a midtable striker at best. Sporting are just getting desperate and they wanted to sell as high as possible.
What did he do that was so impressive?

For feck's sake, we are trying to transfer Bruno Fernandes, not Neymar, and it feels like some cheap Venezuelan telenovela, with Woodward's half-brother (that he didn't know of until recently) marrying his second cousin who used to be lover of Bruno's agent, and is now cheating on her husband with Sporting's director of football. And that is the part we know, more to come in the future episodes…
The window will be closed by the time we even try for another one knowing us. Besides, we're in no position to pretend to be the big man. We're not the powerhouse we once were with an average squad that is in desperate need of renovation. If we want the "bigger" names we have to pay up. If we don't want to pay the big fees then maybe our scouting department should do their job properly and unearth a gem. This is 100% the case.
In my opinion 65m should never be the norm for a guy playing in Portgual, I hope we back out at that price and stop inflating the market. Obviously no other club thinks he’s worth that.
If Sporting won’t budge despite being desperate to sell, move on to another target.
Can't believe we're back treading in quicksand. We never seem to learn from our past mistakes. It's been the same the last couple transfer windows.

Looking like this one is going to be a usual Woodward / Judge balls up. This club is so depressing.
The Judge-Woodward duo are resistant to learning.

I didn’ say he was ‘so impressive’. I said ‘in the 10/15 mins, I liked what I saw of him’. There’s a difference.
Maguire is a whole different case. While I agree we should have got him for 60, his success was at least guaranteed to a good extent.
This guy is not worth that amount. We got to start at some point and stop paying huge money for average players from smaller leagues.
The dissolution with some fans is crazy
How, just how has this got anything to do with Judge,Woodward
They’re not the ones upping the price?
You got to negotiate you cannot just accept any price the selling club wants at the drop of a hat, we’ll be taken for mugs
After this horrendous saga we will finally get him for about £60-65m and he'll end up being bang average. You can almost see it coming.
Everyday it goes on it seems he becomes a better player with our fans than he actually is. An improvement on what we have but we aren't going to turn into world beaters with him. Hope peot realise this. Banging in goals in Portugal is much different to the PL.
From what I've seen and admittedly I'm not an expert fitness won't be any kind of problempros and cons. Ive seen some quality set pieces from him and some rifled finishes from in and around the box. Dead balls and getting shots is fine but its other areas id worry about like fitness and if he can adapt to not getting 8 touches of the ball in the final third without being closed down
