Extremely wasteful today but I thought he had a decent game chances aside. Worked hard and created a good few chances. Has to score the one on one though if he isn’t passing it.

Poor today. I just don’t think anyone can make Ronaldo look good these days. This run of form is unprecedented in his career and it’s going to get worse. He’s often the only creative ball for Bruno, basically say goodbye to the move
Weird comment. Ronaldo is finished in my opinion.....but Ronaldo made Ronaldo look good. He was in another stratosphere to a player like Bruno.

Being the most important word in that post
He didn’t have players make him look good and Bruno certainly hasn’t done that for either Portugal or United at any point. Ronaldo is finished though.

I would say Benzemas contribution to Ronaldo the record breaker has been somewhat underrated. He is and was always a world class player who sacrificed his game to put in the yards and play for Ronny. Without him I think Ronaldo was always a savage finisher/competitor but wasn’t going to do enough by himself to regularly destroy teams in the manner that he did.

I think international football is a different animal. You’ve just got to play what you have and Bruno is one of their best players whether you like him or not. In club football you have access to any kind of player to compliment current chemistry and attributes. I agree Ronaldo and Bruno look an awkward pair who seem to cancel each other out. They never looked good to me for Portugal before we brought Ronaldo here. I was one of the few that pointed this out. That was one of the main reasons didn’t want the Ronadlo transfer at all.

I think with Bruno you need a striker willing to press and chase down lost causes to cause chaos. He thrives in chaos.

I think some of the criticism against Fernandes is fair and doesn’t mean people have an agenda. He scores goals and has great assists and deserves praise for that. But doesn’t mean he doesn’t deserve criticism for the times where for 99% of a match he’s giving the ball away. If we want to transition into a team that dominates matches then he will have to adjust his style a bit and recycle the ball better.

Completely agree. Was brilliant the first 4months or so. I think he has generally been poor since and genuinely wonder how long it takes for fans to forget the honeymoon period and turn o nhim a bit (not as an agenda).

Whenever I criticise him I get slaugtered or bombarded with stats bloody stats. Feels like politics of parties using stats to fit there agenda, regardless of what people see with there own eyes.

His desire is great but his attitude recently as been a bit prima donna for me, he has had some great passes still and moments but for most of the games he seems to be so often doing sloppy first touches, so often going for the hollywood ball when it is on or passing it badly when it is.

I like him but I dont love him like so many seem to and you allude to his having to adjust his style, I completely agree, really needs to simplify a lot of his game on the ball and be a tad more disciplined off the ball, gret he presses hard but he does run all over the place.

Dont know if any truth in it, but I did read somewhere that the scouts were a bti split on him as a signing as some felt he was wasteful and gace the ball away a lot. By no means am I sayign we shouldnt have signed him, been a good signing, but I do think he needs to adapt and I genuinely believe he needs competition like everyone else for his spot.

Sort of typical performance from him...equally industrious/creative and wasteful/undisciplined.

Hard to know what to do with him other than to let him at it and hopehe has one of his good days soon. We have no alternative.

Football is a team game. If Ronaldo played with just a keeper for sure he wouldn’t have been successful. I never get this talk about other players making great players look better. Great players elevate teams to serious success. Rooney is another one who didn’t elevate Ronaldo. Ronaldo elevated that team to three league titles on the bounce and a CL win. Something we never quite managed afterwards. This is Bruno’s thread though and as I said I thought he was ok today chances aside but his wastefulness was costly. You’ve got to say he has earned the right to cost us though overall so I wouldn’t be too critical today. It’s when he goes Hollywood that he frustrates me.

I thought he was decent tbh.

I've come to accept his finishing is dross, though. This season he must have already missed 4/5 one on ones

Yes, weird response but in a way Benzema reminds me of Rooney as despite all the trophies, goals, assists and quality performances, in a way both never really became the players I thoguht they would. Benzema at lyon and Rooney at Everton both looked like all tiem greats to be even on the level of Messi/Ronaldo but neither hav equite reached those heights.

Liek you say though like Rooney, Benzema actually sacrificed part of his game with the work he did for other around him to help the team. The mere fact he has been the striker for Real for what must be over a decade now says so much, its good he is gettign the recognition he deserves now.

As for Fernandes and ROnaldo for Portugal, I agree, thought similar myself. Personally for ROnaldo though, he was a worthwhile signing for us not seeign him at City and also for us still beign in the champions league with a chance of goign further. There is absolutely no way we would have qualified from the group without him playing.

My only reasons against us signing him were that we already had a world class veteran striker in Cavani and a potential world class young one in Greenwood.....but were desperate for central midfielders, though whether Ronaldos signing impacted on that or not who knows. Has been obviously evident we are paying for it in midfield now though in my opinion.

Disagree with people saying ROnaldo is finished. If he was at City he would still be scoring a lot of goals (I know who wouldnt). He still has pace, a godo touch and is a good finisher, give him chances and he will score. But there is a slight decline from where he was at Juve, think it looks worse as the creativiy around him hasnt been great and as you say there isnt chemistry with Fernandes.

The thing is though Cavani goes, Greenwood probably doesnt come back, Rashford is regressing and it isnt just form.......who do you go and sign a right at there peak and probably not long til past it Kane for a fortune, a Riola prob wont even come Haaland, who else, dont seem many around currently?

He's still one of our best players but when it comes to who should be part of an attack good enough to rival City's Sancho is the only one I'm confident in. The team is just to limited or impulsive so it's not just Bruno. Attackers who only play for their tallies is just one part of it. It wasn't even his worst game in weeks but his attacking inefficiency was an issue in other ways.

He'll definitely miss more sitters this season as long as the main tactic is - Pass to Bruno and hope for the best.

Since Ralf doesn't even think about dropping him pressure will grow on Elanga and Sancho to take full goalscoring responsibility.

Weirdly apart from the shocking misses I thought it was perhaps his best game all season. I think that poster who said the worse he plays the more likely he is to get a goal or assist might be on to something! He even did pretty creditably when he dropped deeper into midfield at the end.

Even if he scores or assists, it's time to accept that the general content of his game is very very poor. He is too erratic and wasteful on the ball at key moments when composure is needed

Thought he was decent first half, horrid second half.

Don’t agree with him passing to Ronaldo for his one on one but definitely should have scored. His header wasn’t good either.

Should have had a hat trick first half alone, with his third saved by Ronaldo

Let's call a spade a spade he isn't good enough, occasionally he might be able to temper his game and give good midfield performance but he is what he is too set in his ways it's not gonna change , harsh truth is sooner United management realises this and start planning a team without him easier it would be for the next manager to build a team which might eventually start challenging for the trophies .

He always plays like it’s the 96th minute and we’re trailing 0-1. Always stressing and making poor decisions, often involving him thinking it’s best for him to shoot from stupid distances instead if passing to someone else. At least he gets into position though, I’ll give him that. What annoys me the most is his petulent face and grimaces, it’s not doing him any favors with any referee. Or fan for that matter. Worst captain material there is, you can see some of the other players are openly bothered with his constant crying and stupid waiving of hans and arms towards everyone from the ref to Fred the Red.

Fernandes could be great if he fixes a few aspects of his game, the most important one would be to realize he is not even close to being as good as he thinks himself. And that’s not in some Ronaldo kind of way, because he has always been one of the greatest in the game and craving for unrealistic levels.

I'm dreading him against City. The rare times we'll get the ball he'll probably lose it in a matter of seconds.

Hit and miss, always has been with him and it becomes frustrasting when we’re not winning. On the one side he was wasteful and spoiled a 100% certain goal by refusing to play Ronaldo, but on the other side he should have had both an assist and a goal if the same Ronaldo did his job better. That’s the typical Bruno Fernandes for you. I wish he could have stayed more cool headed, especially during the last minutes of games.

He is the main reason why we didn't win. His finishing has gone to complete shit this season. No idea what happened. He was so clinical before this.

Time for Man United to get a manager with big enough balls to drop Bruno for good.

Has it been? Take away the penalties and it’s not like he was very prolific.

His problem is he's never been a terrific placer of the ball. Most of his open play goals are just him putting his foot through it... Which doesn't really lend itself to one vs one's.

Definitely way better than this. He would at least get shots on target. He's blasted so many over the bar this season. His missed literal sitters as well. He wasn't doing that prior to this season.

I don't get how such a skillful player misses that 1-on-1 with time on hand. I was livid, shaking your head about yourself is not going to cut it.

Barely missed a penalty in his life by placing the ball...

Come on now...Bruno is what he is but let’s not revise what he is and isn’t good at. They guy, when given liscence to do what he wants will assist loads and score loads....

...he will also give the ball away loads and attempt quite frankly needlessly risky passes.

He hasn’t changed one bit except for the fact that the attempts to make him more disciplined have made him less of a goal threat.

He's had a few of those recently.

I forget which game it was but he was clean through last min, all the time in the world and did a chip into the keeper's hands.

Very good description, completely agree.

Drop Bruno for good...(not sure if serious???)
Bruno as a player is great. But mostly great for Bruno. When he constantly playing long balls all the time, it doesn't do the team any favour at all. Another poster put it perfectly - he's playing like it is the 96th minute all the time. It is stupid. Our attacking pattern is almost identical to Ole. Only thing missing is having a few players actually being in form to come up with individual brilliance.

A player like Bruno will always come up with an Assist when he pounces 35 long balls per game towards opposition goal. Which wouldn't even be my biggest problem, when the rest of the team would adapt to attack the second balls, but we don't ffs. It is just a very dysfunctional setup.

What he expects from himself is whats important and he wants to be the best. I predicted him "a flop" before he came, purely on the basis of his style. It was easy to see that in a world where the standard of what a nr.10 should be was David Silva, that his erratic forceful style would be misunderstood. What I didn't know was his character and I'd have to say he has completely won me over. I'd say his performances has been average compared to his initial impact, but not by much if we just see numbers.

However, what he brings is such determination and fight to a team that frankly lack so much of it from talented first teamers like Shaw, Rashford, Pogba that I wouldn't even doubt how far we'd been down the table without him. In a lot of games he has carried the offensive line not only creatively but in workrate. He is a proper all round team player and how this seems to gets overlooked by many fans when watching this team is beyond me. I want him to be more confident in others, not just himself but lately he has gotten a better understanding with Elanga. Hopefully we can get a striker in that complements his style. I feel like he tries a lot of those lofted balls because the attackers ask for it when they run in behind but their timing and runs is just terribly poor and by nature Bruno falls into the trap of doing something spectacular when it's not on. He has many qualities but is prone to repeat things, which is amazing when the idea behind it is a good one, however it's quite insane to repeat stuff that never works. Get it sorted, captain.

Actually thought it was an alright performance from him except for the misses.

He’s played far worse and been raved about on here.

Look at his open play goals, a lot of them are him just putting his foot through it, especially this season.

I'm not saying he can't place it, I'm just saying his tendancy is not to do that...

Also, penalties are a different skill

His sitters lately have been abysmal. Today, the open goal against Boro, the pitiful chip attempt against Brentford.

He has the yips in front of goal.

Too be honest I think the whole team seem to be having the yips. Most likely under Ole if we created this many chances we would have smashed watford by 5 6 goals. I am not trying to into a whole Ole thing I just mean I don't recall us missing too often under Ole although I am sure there may have been some. But we were usually quite confident in front of goal. When I was watching a youtube channel someone was saying about De Gea saying we have no luck this season like we are cursed or something. Maybe that is in players heads, players are known to be superstitious. A lot of things have gone tits up for us this year. Of the top of my head, The Ole performances this season out of nowhere, MG and even the whole Aeroflot nonsense its like we can't catch a break this year.
